I'm new to the area but went to watch Monterey play a Memorial gym at Tech recently and saw 1st half of Upperman and Pickett. Monterey will be a different team this year with the addition of a couple of transfers. The big kid is around 6' 7" maybe 245 has some range and good hands around the basket not as athletic as some of the other players but will help them. Over all they looked pretty good. The Upperman Pickett game was ugly refs were letting them play way to physical. To young refs looked barley out of high school. Pickett has a couple of good shooters one was red head #10 not sure the other ones number short guard. Upperman had one good shooter dark headed kid and there big kid was getting swarmed and mauled. He finally just created contact knocked down the defender and scored no call. Looked like Pickett was determined to not let the big kid score if he touched the ball they swarmed him but I left at half. Both team got up and down the floor well but were really going after each other. I can't imagine they will be aloud to play that physical in school ball.

Where did the Monterey transfers come from? Yes I have watched Dawson Abbott hit threes all night long for a couple of years now. Pickett has more than a couple of good shooters. Their big man (Upperman) is a transfer from Clay County last year...Josh Endicott and has helped them a lot. I know both Pickett & Upperman will be very good. Clay lost a lot but have this year's most likely Mr. Basketball Key back. Jackson lost their coach and that us always tough when they are a good coach like he is. Clarkrange lost a lot too. But, I am wondering how they, and York, LA, etc are doing. Thanks.

    • Groves got the ball over 20+ times. His son arguably played the best for East in that game. 3rd and long multiple times and he came up big to continue a couple drives. Please shut up for the 3rd year in a row
    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
