Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

I read this soccer law for the first time in almost

a year. I can't believe what referees are allowing

to happen on the field without giving a yellow or

a red card.

My concern is that one day a parent will sue everyone

involved, including the center ref, for allowing a more

dangerous playing environment or for not controlling the

level of physical play that results in their kid being injured.

Your thoughts and remedies?

You are correct soccercrazed. There is very little emphasis in soccer on Risk Management issues including negligence on the part of officials and coaches. I'll throw another one at you. There are many conflicting reports from well educated medical people some saying that repetitive heading of a soccer ball can be damaging and others that say it is not. Maybe a parent/player will test this in the courts one day and we will get an answer.

I've noticed more flagrant fouls and levels of dissent than

ever before and especially in the older ages.

Unfortunately, it doesn't end with the players......parent's

begin to get into the act....especially when the tone of the

game isn't established enforced equally.

I'm not talking about a good shoulder tackle or shielding......I'm talking about "hacks" at ankles/knees,

charging a player and cleaning their "proverbial plough" as

they've just touched the ball beyond a defender.......

Some kids will test the limits early and often in a game because they know they'll get away with it.

Not to get the cart before the horse, but not on my watch.

Communication of such before a game to the teams is important and I'll take full advantage of that time with them.....as a soft warning.

;)
