What a week! TNUSA put on its second annual WNO card and it did not disappoint. Below you’ll find my perspective on the evening and how the match-ups shook out.

Match-up

Commentary

152: Chancery Deane (Father Ryan) vs Brayden Leach (Summit)

Deane was definitely the favorite coming into this match but Leach had other plans. Leach dominated this match from beginning to end and has firmly cemented himself as the #1 guy at this weight. The final score was 10-5 but it really wasn’t that close.

145: Nate Askew (Baylor) vs Arash Yazdani (Brentwood)

This was a bit of a surprise. Coming in, most thought Nate would run away with this one, but, give Arash some credit…He came to compete. Ultimately, Nate was a bit too much for Arash but the 2-1 final was a pleasant surprise. This match was super competitive.

126: Ethan Uhorchuk (Signal Mountain) vs Joseph Calvin (Father Ryan)

This one was Ethan Uhorchuk early and often. Without a doubt, this was the least competitive match of the bunch and this was the only bonus point victory on the evening as well. Two very different levels were on display and it was never close.

113: Axel Ritchie (McCallie) vs Tanner Tran (Father Ryan)

This match was two matches rolled into one. Let me explain: Axel got the first takedown and got an escape to start the second period. He was firmly in control for the first half of the match…Then Tanner got a body lock and Axel kinda let Greco happen!!! Axel got thrown to his back and Tanner never looked back. I think the final was 8-4

215: Lucas Szymborski (Cleveland) vs Ryder Smith (Chattanooga Christian)

This may have been the most entertaining match. If not, It’s certainly close to it! Tip of the cap to both these athletes for taking the match right off the football field. You could tell that neither was in wrestling shape but they both certainly have wrestling skills. Szymborski was giving up at least 20 lbs. to Ryder and you could see it; however, he was able to outlast the stud from Chattanooga Christian in what will hopefully be only the beginning of a solid rivalry.

106: Jose Cordero (Cleveland) vs Jaxon Lane (McCallie)

Both these two guys have been around the block once or twice but I thought Cordero’s HS experience would be the difference and it was. Jaxon was certain a worthy opponent but the double FARGO AA showed up for all 6 minutes (and that was the difference).

132: Jarvis Little (Summit) vs Cason Roark (Father Ryan)

These two have wrestled a few times but Cason seemed to be the fan favorite in this match up. Certainly, this was two conflicting styles butting heads but the difference here was simple, Jarvis was able to score from bottom easily and Cason was not. Cason was ridden for over a minute and did not have time to get to any meaningful offensive attacks when he needed them. 4-3 final score.

120: Joseph Uhorchuk (Signal Mountain) vs Mason Jakob (Dobyns Bennett)

Two studs? Yes! Super impressed by both here. JoJo won this match 2-1, but one could argue the Mason should have received near-fall in the third not once, but twice. This is the epitome of what a WNO match should look like.

160: Logan Fowler (Cleveland) vs Maximus Norman (Baylor)

The FINALE!!! It lived up to the hype. The 5-3 overtime win by Max was a fitting final match for this outstanding card. Max wrestling as disciplined as I’ve ever seen him and he had to if he was going to compete with Logan.

Tip of the cap to TNUSA for putting on a quality event. Let me know your thoughts!!!
