MARTIN, Tenn. Matt Griffin, a fourth-year assistant coach at the University of Maine, has been named the new head football coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Spring football begins Monday for the Skyhawks and will conclude on April 24 with the Blue/Orange spring game.

This was a VERY OLD topic that I found and even though Griffin has since left UT-Martin, coached at Murray State, and now coaches for the Jacksonville Jaguars the fact of the matter is that his hire in December of 2002 saved UT-Martin football and the signing class he put together in 2003 served as the group that led the Skyhawks to the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in 2006.
