Starting date for High School Baseball

I was just wanting to get coaches, players and parents input/opinions on the subject of changing the start dates for HS baseball. For example not starting practice until middle of March (better weather) and not ending the season until late June. I believe Iowa does it this way but I am not sure. What would be the possible benefits or problems with this plan?

I say lets start in Aug. and play till the end of Oct

Allow us to start practicing in Jan. Start play in March, it will only improve the quality of baseball.

I agree with Gorilla. I believe that we should start in January or maybe even December. This would get everybody better and there might be better competion.

I'd like to see baseball start later and run later. It is still possible in some schools to play more than one sport. Kids in basketball can't participate in the first 2 weeks (or more) of baseball practice now and starting earlier would put them even farther behind. At our school, the top 2 catchers, 2 of the top 3 pitchers, and a starting outfielder play basketball.

 

The kids won't like this, but what I'd really like to see is year-round school with more, longer breaks to keep the same number of school days. Then you could play high school baseball from April to August.

Hey LCborn, you are obviously a pitcher or catcher. Why don't you just start throwing on your on earlier and getting in baseball shape on your own? This way you are not so far behind when you do get to baseball.
