  1. *These are FadePatterns picks I accidently logged in under my old screen name. oops!* Coalfield Temple Union City Bruceton Fayette Acad. CAK Boyd Goodpasture (It will be Goodpasture vs. Alcoa Pt. II in the BC Bowl) CPA Camden Knox Cath. Notre Dame Lipscomb Privates win 9 Publics win 4 (I will either doom myself to failure with these picks or set myself apart from the pack. I would bet on the failure part!)
  2. Stay in the TSSAA when the split occurs (if it ever does and please remember that I also support a merit system) and you can participate in the state sanctioned events. I would assume that the TSSAA would, if the privates stayed in post-theoretical split, allow them to play non-private schools. That only brings the issue of travel to the table in terms of district/regional regular season games and tournaments. Private schools in the intermediary areas (Jackson, the plateau, etc.) would possibly have some increased travel, but those in Memphis/Shelby Co, Nashville, Chatanooga, and Knoxville should not be overly burdened with travel because of the number of teams that suround them.
  3. Your point is well taken. But I have been on 2 hour road trips in my life before for regular season and play-off/tournament games. I am not making light of your concern but by that standard no one should travel because of the inherent risks involved.
  4. One report has Notre Dame winning big 14-1 over Anderson Co.
  5. Is there a case precedent for an action like this (other than BA v. TSSAA)? It sure seems like some private school supporters are not interested in competing against other privates on a full time basis. So much in fact that they will sue to get out of having to play each other. Not trying to fire anyone up but I wonder if the fact that Ensworth and JPII opening and pulling a number of kids away from established private schools in nashville has caused these feeling? When the school charges full tuition fee for a high school student/athlete but allows his two younger siblings in elementary/middle schoolto go to school free.
  6. Harpeth Middle School in Kingston Springs is seeking a home game on Tues. Sept. 26th or a Road game on Thur. Sept. 28th. If interested please call Clint Finch at (615)952-2811 ext. 2102, (615)952-2293 ext. 4035 or (615) 952-3475.
  7. I have relatives that work at two private schools. It is a business. I am not saying that the only reason private schools exist is to win ball games. I know that is not the case, but I have not seen any private schools say they are dropping athletic programs because thats not what they are about, nor have I seen any private schools not emphasize the athletic accomplishments (as they should and I would expect them to.) But I know that one of the draws for a school is its athletic programs, along with other things. If a split occured and private schools began to knock each other out of play-offs wins/ tournament wins and championships a certain number of private schools would suffer. I do not want to over step my bounds but many people said that Davidson Acad. move to Sumner Co. was due to the fact that they lost a number of kids to JPII. I can't help but think that athletics played a role in this decision. The parents that are paying money to these schools expect a total package academics, often times religiously based education, and quality extra-curricular activities. Nashville private education is particularly unique in that there are a large number of private schools, each of which competes for students. If I have not gone out on limb far enough already I suppose that I am about to...the multiplier actually helped private schools in that it allowed greater parity among them and increased the likelyhood of more teams going deeper into the play-offs/tournaments. I offer Goodpasture and Lipscomb as evidence of that in that both played in state championship games in football this year. If both were A or AA or AAA that could not have happened.
  8. How did they both look in spring? Can Ezell even have spring with Roberts Coaching baseball? What are the numbers like for both? Both well coached and outstanding teams in my opinion. Rivalry in the making now that they are in the same region.
  9. Read my 1st post above. I was simply pointing out that urban based private schools have a large pool of students to draw from and that is an advantage. The multiplier is not the best answer to the problem. Merit system would be great if not that then split. On a side note (with no malice intended) do you think that private schools really want a split knowing that they would then play each other and knock each other out of the play-offs? Seriously not trying to start a fight but wondering if it is a valid concern among private schools.
  10. 1st: I agree with the merit system. 2nd: I do not believe that the TSSAA will ever do it (yet I still hold out hope) 3rd: Multiplier was not designed to make privates go 0-30, but as a stop gap measure before the "nuclear option" of a total split happened.
  11. The following information came from census.gov: Pop est. Lewisburg Zip Code 37091 is 18,851. Pop. in Lipscomb Zip 37204 is 11,024. 2005 population estimate for Davidson County, Tennessee is 575,261 The 2004 pop. est. for Loretto zip code 38469 is 3,921 Pop. in Ezell Harding Zip Code 37013 is 51,343. 2005 population estimate for Davidson County, Tennessee is 575,261 Do the Private school pull kids from from outside these zip codes? Absolutely. Do they in fact pull kids from outside Davidson Co? Absolutley. Is that legal? Absolutely. Does the multiplier negate the obvious demographic differences between these schools? In my opinion it does not edited: Obviously a reference to the Region 5-AA Baseball Tourney
  12. Do private schools that play Class A/AA have an advantage due to the fact that they are often in urban areas and have large populations to choose from? How many people live in a 25 mile radius of Marshall Co. compared to a 25 mile radius of David Lipscomb? How many people live within 25 mile of Ezell-Harding compared to a 25 mile radius of Loretto? I still feel that is the advantage.
  13. Cheatham County Football HC $1500 and 2 months of your base pay Asst. Coaches (2) $1500 Basketball HC $1500 and 1 month of your base Asst. coaches (1) $1500 BB/SB HC $1500 Asst Coach (1) $1000 Volleyball HC $1500 No Asst. Track $1500 No Asst. Wrestle $1500 No Asst. A.D. Either $1500 or 1 month I am not sure
  14. Harpeth ahead of Jackson SS 5-3 in the 4th
  15. Both public and private schools make mistake and I am sure that there have been both public and private schools that have openly "cheated". My problem with the above post is it is an example of "nah nah nah boo boo, you are not perfect either!" name calling. It is a shame because there is so much room for open serious debate on the subject.
  16. Carlos Hudson can absolutely fly! If they can afford to move him to WR then then they must have someone that can carry the ball in the backfield.
  17. I believe Sycamore High School in Pleasantview is open.
  18. I vote No to Big Bill!!!!
  19. Try to tell you Region 5-AA would be gone by the second round.
  20. Speed Kills! Huntingdon by at least 2 touchdowns.
  21. Region 5-AA very weak this season--all teams could go out in first round.
  22. The community is sick and tired of this stuff going on for the past 5 weeks. A break in the case tonight and the goat people are all x-players who quit the team. Really shows their true character and what Coach Winkler has had to deal with. He has 29 players dedicated to Harpeth Football and 18 x-players dedicated to causing nothing but trouble. Also std, your right on target!!!!
  23. It's not over yet, so Smith Co. could be in the alphabet league after all.I believe the vote is November 16th. Anything can happen between now and then. The private schools could be split up. You never know what the TSSAA is going to do.
  24. What is even worse, is the schools that ran from Lipscomb and Goodpasture to 3A the last 4 years come out smelling like a rose--not fair to Harpeth and Fairview who played by the rules.
  25. Hey, vrod I remember you bashing Harpeth before. This is a positive board, so go take your steroids and get lost. I respect the Harpeth program and the players who stayed with their coach. 2 wins and they could be in the playoffs!!!
