City Paper Simpson Article

This morning's Nashville City Paper has a full page article by Dominic Bonvissuto on "Simpson: Wrestler, Soldier, All-American". It is a really well written article. And it is not just a recitation of the scores of each match. Full of quotes from Phillip, as well as quotes from Coach Barbee and even fans like Southside Wrestling Club coach Bobby Davennport and 1973 Antioch state champion Mike Apple. In the article, Phillip, gracious as always, says that the dinner Saturday night in Kansas City in his honor put on by the Tennessee contingent that went to see him wrestle was "not about me: it was about Tennessee wrestling" and specifically mentions Tennessee Wrestling Federation President Louise Davis and youth wrestling coach ( Nashville Copperheads) Chuck Bean as "the kind of people who have helped us turn the corner". I highly recommend it if you need a wrestling fix this morning. If you can't get a hard copy, you can find the article at:

AMAZING article; the Tennesseean should seriously watch its back. For, if the rest of the staff and writing is as good as this article, it's already putting the Tennesseean to absolute Shame.

Local (or even statewide) Newspapers should realize that they're Not ESPN; National sports are well represented and well taken care of. It's the Big-Hearted Local athletes like wrestlers that are the best stories, when one gets off their lazy Journalistic Tail and digs a bit to Write a Decent story.

I hope you hear this, Herald-Citizen; it's especially for YOU.

Dominic Bonvissuto has put together another great story. His quality stories in the past speak for themselves, therefore, it does not diminish his abilities as a writer at all with the observation that any story about Phillip is going to be a great story because Phillip inspires greatness around himself just by being who he is and what he is about.
