What does everybody think about Ridgeway moving up from AA to AAA? How do ya'll think they will do in AAA? Do ya'll think they are any threat on winning the state championship?

They looked solid, not state-caliber. Henning's a good coach, though, and I'd heard Pierre Niles was transferring there, which would make them a lot better. He wasn't there when I saw them.

Ridgeway should be VERY good this year!! Over the last two years, there have been numerous transfers to Ridgeway so they have garnered up a lot of talent...guess they're just lucky that way! (LOL)

 

Not only has Pierre Niles transfered from Treadwell, but so did Jordan Mincy (Briarcrest), Michael Rice (White Station), Rory Lawrence (Kirby), Chris Holley (?), a new player from Alabama and another from California. They dressed 18-20 players all summer and have added others since then. Talk about a magnet school!!!

 

It will be interesting to see how Coach Henning will handle all of the different egos and hidden agendas on this team. It's going to be a challenge, but if he pulls it off, they could be a team to reckon with. Should definitely be a surprise team for AAA.

Do ya'll think they should have stayed in AA or that it was a smart move to move up a class?

They didn'y have a choice. The TSSAA rule says that if a school's enrollment increases by 20% in two years, it must move up in classification. Schools may opt to play up in classification but they cannot choose to go down.

 

Ridgeway built a new middle school, so when those 7th and 8th graders were moved to the new building, there was more space for 9-12 students in the high school building. This caused the increase.

 

Basketball should be competitive in either classification; football is competitive but doesn't dominate like last year; other sports will find that AAA in Memphis is much more competitive than AA (especially in women's sports).

Will all these transfers they got in be able to play this season?
