I was reading the Gallatin newspaper and it sounds like portland played well, but the big laugh that I got was the Station Camp game, why would you only play freshman versus Hendersonville and leave your starters at home. Did he forget that he plays Macon, David Lipscomb, Portland and hume-fogg every year. This guy is crazy.

Also Coach Z's comments were very funny, The jamboree contest between Station Camp’s Lady Bison and Hendersonville’s Lady Commandos turned out like it looked on paper.

Considering the Lady Bison brought only its freshman squad to battle the Lady Commando varsity squad, the final score of 44-9 didn’t surprise many in the stands.

What did perplex people was the reasoning behind the Lady Bison not playing its entire varsity squad.

“Let’s just say that was my decision,” said Station Camp coach Ferrell Zissette after the contest. “Some of our young girls got to play — in a couple of years, this will be our varsity team.

“The way I coach, my youngest girl is just as important as my oldest girl. They’ve got to be able to fill in when the opportunity arises.”

Whatever the reasoning, Hendersonville’s two biggest offensive weapons took advantage of the situation.

Senior center Rachel Davis netted a game-high 15 points in just over a quarter of action, while sophomore guard Kali Holtfreter tossed in nine points in the same amount of time.

“This is the first time I can remember us being this balanced,” said Hendersonville coach Stacia Dean.

“We mainly wanted to get the jitters out today and get in front of a big crowd…get the nerves out.”

Hendersonville, which has 10 sophomores and two freshmen on its varsity roster, saw its younger players get plenty of action. Of course, after playing three JV scrimmages earlier in the day, they were most likely worn by game’s end.

“They came in and did a good job filling in,” Dean said. “We have 14 girls, and they’re playing really well together. It’s exciting. It makes it fun to go to practices.”

Samantha Goonan’s bucket early in the game tied things at 2-2, but Hendersonville proceeded to outscore the Lady Bison 28-1 after that point to take a 30-3 lead early in the second quarter.

Davis had three 3-point plays, converting the free throw on two of those, during the scoring run.

Angie Hardson and Kellie Cannon each scored three points to lead Station Camp.

Hendersonville has a good team,” Zissette said. “The last thing I told the girls is that they won’t see a team this good the rest of the year.”

Just wondering, why would a varsity coach take his jv or freshmen team to play in a varsity jamboree. I do not know this guy but heard that he was the Rick Insell of South Carolina. I guess he thinks very highly of himself. I have been to the Sumner County Jamboree before and that do it up right. I believe he took something away from his varsity kids from a new school to show that community what strides they have made. It is very competitive, but I question his motive on that. I do not know the whole situation, but would like to know more.

    • I havent kept up with Keeton since he went to Oakland, so hearing he is in a BOE role now, that may trump him coming back.  Rennard on the other hand. That dude is a Man Builder! And he was cut loose this spring from Scotts Hill. Heard him in a interview a few month back and he inspired me. He needs to be back home in the Purple & Gold, regardless of if he is HC or not or even if he doesnt coach at all, his presences will improve the environment. But Again, I have no clue if he would even be interested.
    • biggest....just saying he is good at what he does. I may or may not have already floated this out his way.   He is a good guy!
    • Shoulders from Macon co.  A creasy protege. Has the best coached team in the area as of late. Not much shot to win a state title at Macon but could very well be a contender with the talent coming up through the peewee and junior high ranks in TC I hear. He my dark horse candidate. trousdale co fans could also brag to their neighbors that they talked their best coach into coming to TC on a year of such high expectations at Macon co.
