Toughest Small Team

There are numerous teams in our state that are either a few years old, or don't have full rosters. These teams lose dual meets, but always have tough kids in individual tournaments.

Who all gets your vote?

Another good question would be: What schools have a co-ed student population under 600-650 that are making a good showing this year?

Who was the guy, and I think he wrestled in Chattanooga, that had no team, but represented his school and worked out with another team? His school didnt offer wrestling. He would enter tourneys as a "team", do quite well, and score points for his "team" and beat other fully stocked teams b/c he made it to the finals and what have you. He wrestled when it was all one division and I think was a state placer. It was at least 5-6years ago if not more.

 

He was the toughest SMALL team.

 

What was his name/school? I cant remember.

You're thinking of Tim Voiles from Lookout Valley probably. You're right, he was a great team. He coached Grundy Co. a couple of years ago and really had them improving. Last I heard he was coaching baseball at Chatt. Notre Dame.

Indeed! Tim Voiles is coaching at Notre Dame - Chattanooga and making a great difference. The kids love him and respect his wrestling expertise. He fits right in with the ND progam - his presence there is a very positive one. We're proud he's here!

Tim was a tough wrestler and he is doing a great job at N.D.

Yeah he was a good wrestler, but he did have a team and coach. Ashley Brooks, the assistant at Soddy now was Tim's coach. I believe he won it a couple times. He's a great guy, too.

I believe Greenback has a full team, but are improving. Tim Voiles was an intense wrestler, and wrestled at Carson-Newman.

One tough small team without full squad is Union County who could have beat Farragut except for unexpected pin at 189lbs by first year wrestler. Don't remember every match but forfeits aside for both teams it was pretty even match.

What was the score of Farragut/Union Co., did Farragut have very many forfeits or are you just talking about the matches that actually took place?

Indeed, Tim was who I was thinking of. I can now sleep at night.
