My guess would be that they are trying get specific matchups. I noticed Scott went from 152 to 145 and Manley to 140. There must be nationally ranked talent at those weights that the coach feels his wrestlers match up well with.

A first place finish or even a second will give his wrestlers a chance to improve their national rankings and put them on the radar screen of more schools. I've known some coaches to only take one or two kids to a tough tournament for just those reasons.

If this was not a team sport, all the reasons mentioned for wrestling in LV would be fine. The problem is it IS a team sport, although apparently not at McCallie. It will be interesting to see if any of the coaching community has any thoughts one way or the other on whether this is a good practice or not. Undoubtedly it's good if you are a top McCallie wrestler. Would a football program take only those players from their team to an away game that they thought could contribute or would they bring the entire team to the game? We all know the answer. I'm not bashing the decision, just wondering how much of a team sport wrestling really is or is it it akin to saying you are on the golf team?

-Congrats to Cody and Ryan.

-Where is Justin Blair and Andrew Smith?

-Has the upswing of Baylor wrestling hurt the McCallie program so bad that they cannot field a full team even if there are sick or injured wrestlers? I am positive Coach Morgan would have loaned Coach Connell a few wrestlers.

-Whatever happened to Madison Roberts?

-I'll bet Connell's JV parents are happy with him.

-I wonder if the Blue Tornado will be welcomed back next year. Five 'no entries' at a major out-of-town tournament.....questionable.

-Is the entire team trying to get to 135? Didn't Scott and Manley begin the season at 160 and 152? Can you say "Ethiopian Weight Control" program?

Hey Mr. Hanson. Very good questions but to paraphrase every Bradley fan when a question is asked about wrestling, "Jest you ask Coach Connell to his face ifn your man enuff".

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
