  1. Better yet, have your player pick up the phone, call the college coach at schools they are interested in, and save some money. If they aren't being recruited they may want to focus on NCAA Div 2 or NAIA schools that offer scholarships
  2. McCallie finished 18th out of 24 teams. 135 - Cody Cleveland, 6th place 140 - Spencer Manley, 7th place 145 - Ryan Scott, 2nd place (lost 8-2 in finals)
  3. How about Dan Van Winkle at (931) 456-6836 Ext. 836 .
  4. Justin Cohen from Nazareth, 15-2.
  5. Update from Bethlehem. Ryan Scott is only remaining undefeated wrestler. He scored an 8-5 decision in the quarters and won his semifinal match 6-2 over Derek Deutsch from Nazareth. Toughest opponent is yet to come as he faces Joey Ecklof - Northampton, ranked #9 nationally in the finals.
  6. If this was not a team sport, all the reasons mentioned for wrestling in LV would be fine. The problem is it IS a team sport, although apparently not at McCallie. It will be interesting to see if any of the coaching community has any thoughts one way or the other on whether this is a good practice or not. Undoubtedly it's good if you are a top McCallie wrestler. Would a football program take only those players from their team to an away game that they thought could contribute or would they bring the entire team to the game? We all know the answer. I'm not bashing the decision, just wondering how much of a team sport wrestling really is or is it it akin to saying you are on the golf team?
  7. Agreed but that still doesn't explain why you wouldn't give more kids an opportunity to go against the strong competition at this tournament.
  8. Don't you do that during the summer at the National tournaments? During the high school wrestling season the emphasis should be on the team. If their stars are going to only get better wrestling in LV wouldn't the other team members do the same and prepare the team for the state championships? Not trying to be difficult but just asking the questions to see if going to out of state tournaments in a team sport should be based on improving only the top wrestlers or would they be better served staying closer to home and improving the entire program?
  9. Useless waste of space. Recommend getting rid of the strength of schedule portion altogether.
  10. I thought wrestling was a team sport. What's the rationale behind going in the first place. There is quality competition close by that the entire team could participate in isn't there?
  11. Kevin, Coach Locastro won't appreciate you giving these teams this type of locker room material even if you are right.
  12. Another post prodded me to start this one. I'll throw out the Marable's in West Tennessee for starters.
  13. If that is the case, it's an excellent coaching strategy. Why show your hand before you have to especially when you may not have the best of cards (no slam to CBHS)?
  14. Antwan, I am new to this topic so forgive me if I'm taking the spirit of these posts out of context but the beauty of a merit based system is that the 1A publics would compete up to the level they are capable of. In other words, they would never have to compete against a 5A school unless, of course, they were capable to play at that level. If the primary goal is to win, publics and privates should be opposed to any merit based system because under one, there is no place to hide. If the primary goal is to play against the best competition, then based on past performance a merit based system should sift out the right pool of teams for a school to compete against regardless of current classification.
