the opinions of some that i have heard are that McKenzie arena (formerly the round house) was built to compensate the large crowds that came to utc basketball games during the shumate era. apparently, mcclellan gym could no longer hold the crowds that came to watch the success of the mocs program under shumate. now, this is just gossip around the high school, but it sounds pretty good to me.

no he cant bring the spanish kids with him. they arent zoned for soddy and since they arent zoned then they cant go to school there and play

In case anyone is really serious about Ron Shumate's credibility - he won the Division II National Championship while head coach at UTC. He took them to Runner Up to the National Championship the year before. The Trojans don't have a clue as to the "Monster Catch" they now have in a head boys' basketball coach. SDHS should be the envy of the state with Shumate in control. If he can just get the guys to play and not whine, whine, whine - the Soddy basketball tradition.

      Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
