Was Cherokee the only team in the region with a winning record?

Yes, they were, and their out of conference wins were against lower classification schools.

I can't say for sure the problem with the rest of the five rivers conference, but you only have to look at the number of M-East and M-West players that dot college rosters from the previous year to see what their problem was. West lost 10 of 11 starters from that outstanding defense of last year, of which at least 4-5 signed college schollys.

East suffered as well but mostly on the other side of the ball losing their entire starting backfield all of whom are now on college rosters. Gone from that team was the leading passer, rusher and receiver in the five rivers conference as well as an offensive lineman who signed with Tennessee Tech.

These things seem to come and go in cycles. They will be back.

This was a down year for the 5 Rivers Conference. All the teams that were in the playoffs from this conference were well deserving. Do not count the conference out with one bad year. You can always count on West and Greeneville to be good year in and year out and East has improved greatly over the last two years and have become more competitive. These three teams look to be the teams that are competitive every year. Greeneville lost the best running back in the conference in the Gash kid to injury. West was playing with alot of young kids who are going to make mistakes and East was playing with an offense that lost 3500 yards of offense the year before. East will be better next year just need to replace 3 linemen and have a tailback step up. The QB will be much improved as he was only a sophomore and the defense will only get better with time. So as I said earlier do not count out the 5 Rivers Conference we will be back
