Unaka over Hampton

Unaka didn't seem in danger of losing, but they were pushed to the limit by the very game Lady Bulldogs. Overall, good enough to win, but certainly not a high-water mark for Unaka. Hampton deserves much credit for that.

At times Unaka's defense was dominant, forcing several turnovers out front, yet their rebounding, on both ends of the floor, and especially in the first half, was sub-par.

Hampton hit only one three pointer, a third quarter shot by Heather Chambers. Credit Unaka's perimeter defense, because Hampton has players that can take over a game from long range. Unaka made five threes, a bit under their average, but hurtful to the Hampton cause.

Both teams were inconsistent at best from the free throw line, which will probably continue to improve.

Unaka had three players - Roberson, Babb and Danielle Ensor - who combined for 22 points in the post, which ultimately took a toll. Also this was Hampton's third consecutive game in three nights, so fatigue was another factor.

Hampton is proving to be tenacious and resourseful. They need only depth, and another post player to be very dangerous.

Overall Unaka hasn't played to their potential; but the defensive intensity and hustle are there, keeping them a step ahead of the competition.
