Team Free Throws: Giles Co. 12 of 17 (70.6%), Page 8 of 14 (57.1%)

Team Fouls: Giles Co. 18, Page 19

Team Turnovers: Giles Co. 22, Page 21

Giles Co. led after the 1st qtr., 19-7, as Coffey had 6, D. Holt had 4, Z. Holt had 4 with a three and 1 of 2 FT's, Hayes hit a three, and Smith had 2 while Page's Bowling had 4 and Herald hit a three. In the 2nd qtr., GC outscored Page, 25-10, as Smith had 12 with a three and 1 of 3 FT's, Coffey had 6, Deron Garrett had 4 and Nelson hit a three while Page's Vaughn had 4, Herald hit a three, Adams had 2, and Carter hit 1 of 2 FT's as GC led at the half, 44-17. In the 3rd qtr., Page outscored GC, 17-8, as Kmita had 8 with 2 of 5 FT's, Bowling had 3 with 1 of 1 FT's, both Vaughn and Johnson each had 2, and Herald hit 2 of 2 FT's while GC's Smith had 4 with 2 of 2 FT's, Coffey had 2, and Bain hit 2 of 2 FT's as GC led after 3 qtrs., 52-34. In the 4th qtr., Page outscored GC, 20-18, as Bowling had 10 with a three and 1 of 1 FT's, Vaughn had 7 with a three, and Herald had 3 with 1 of 2 FT's while GC's Smith had 9 with 3 of 3 FT's, D. Holt had 4 with 2 of 2 FT's, Coffey had 3 with 1 of 2 FT's, and Deron Garrett had 2 as Giles Co. won 70-54.

Giles looked very good in the 1st half, but in the 2nd half they seemed to let up some, especially in the 3rd qtr where they had 8 turnovers. Smith had his usual excellent game and Coffey also had some smooth shots. Page's slow start in the 1st qtr hurt their cause as well as in the 2nd qtr. when GC's Smith and Coffey combined for 18 pts. Page should be given some credit for not giving up, however, as they outscored Giles, 37-26, in the 2nd half.

They got several dunking opportunities... Smith and Coffey. Smith had 3-4 and Coffey had 1-2. However, they missed some also. I have to say that Page played one of the best games in a while, although the outcome did not reflect. Giles County is a very good ball team and very well disciplined!

Thanks, bamababe4212, for the dunk report. Both Smith and Coffey had some spectacular misses where the ball bounded off the rim out of bounds to the delight of the Page supporters. Even Smith thought his miss was funny as the ball hit the rim and went out of bounds at mid-court.

It seemed to me that Smith was more concerned with dunking than anything else. Giles got a little too fancy in the second half, and Page came back very nicely. I'd really like to see the matchup on Tuesday night, with Giles facing B.A. All things considered, Giles is still a very dangerous team that has a chance to go all the way in class AA.

#25 Matt Bowling averages close to 8 pts. a game, but is certainly capable to producing more as shown by his game against Giles. He is very quick to the basket and also has a good three. He played defense against Smith, but while quick, he could not match in height. Matt hurt in knee right before the district tournament last year which resulted in Page's early exit. He also pitches for Page baseball and missed several games at the start of baseball season. He is fully recovered now and a lot of fans have been waiting for a game like he had against Giles. He had been a little hesitant in shooting up to this point in the season, but I would like to see him put the ball up more. Maybe this game will give him the confidence he needs to continue scoring.
