May 13, 201016 yr comment_2462770 Ive been hearing rumors around middle tennessee that Chris Jones of Melrose will be transferring to a prep school next year because of his age. I have heard that he is currently 19 years old as a junior which would make him ineligable next season at Melrose. Is there any truth to this????? Report

May 15, 201016 yr comment_2463420 I keep hearing that, but how is he playing AAU with the 17u?? CHRIS DOESN'T PLAY AAU. IN AAU YOU PLAY YOUR AGE AND GRADE (WITH EXCEPTIONS). IN "TRAVEL" BASKETBALL YOU PLAY YOUR CLASS. CHRIS IS IN THE 2011 CLASS WHICH IS "CALLED" 17U ON THE TRAVEL CIRCUIT. Report

Yea I know how it works I played for 6 or 7 years myself...and plus some teams play up in age brackets. I just thought I read where he was playing in the tourneys with the other Memphis studs... May 16, 201016 yr comment_2463516 So Chris Jones is not playing with the Memphis Magic along with Newby, Adonis, Nino, Big Marvin, and Cam Golden?? Is there another player in Memphis by the name of Chris Jones?? Report

IN "TRAVEL" BASKETBALL YOU PLAY YOUR CLASS. CHRIS IS IN THE 2011 CLASS WHICH IS "CALLED" 17U ON THE TRAVEL CIRCUIT. First there is another Chris Jones in Memphis. Question: Why does the "Circuit" ball even have age brackets at these tournaments when it really does not matter how old you are to play with anyone. Lebron could come and play if he wanted to. This doesn't make sense. How is this suppose to help the player. Report

This doesn't make sense. How is this suppose to help the player. THE CIRCUIT DOESN'T HAVE TRUE AGE GROUPS. 17U REALLY MEANS RISING SENIOR. THE TREND NOW IS TO "RE-CLASS"..; THEY CALL IT STAYING BACK A GRADE WHERE I'M FROM. RE-CLASSING CAN PUT A LATE BLOOMER (OR A KID WITH BAD GRADES, CAN'T QUALIFY FOR COLLEGE, IMMATURE, ETC.) IN POSITION TO GET A COLLEGE OFFER. ONE THAT HE WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN THE YEAR BEFORE. JOHN WALL WAS A RE-CLASS KID WHICH IS WHY THE MCDONALD'S ALL-AMERICAN GAME WOULD NOT ACCEPT HIM. THE BIG PREP SCHOOL PUSH NOW IS FUELED BY RE-CLASS PLAYERS. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS WITH POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES. Report
May 17, 201016 yr comment_2463612 Luckily, the TSSAA enforces age rules. If they didn't, Chris Jones would probably be back at Melrose next year playing as a 20 year old senior, if reports of his age are indeed correct. Jones is certainly a fine talent but it sure helps also to be older than the players you are playing against. Report
May 18, 201016 yr Author comment_2464093 "Re-classing"? is that what tehy call it now in Memphis? Where I come from its called holding a player back a year so he can be bigger/stronger/faster than everyone else!!! Report
