Although a different level, the admission application numbers go up if University has one or more successful athletic programs. I remember reading about that with Virginia Tech about 25 years ago. Seems like ESPN 30 For 30 “The U” touched on it also. Having successful program(s) in high school helps bring positive attention to the school. If a family with a good athlete that is age is relocating to the area, that could help them make their decision on where to go.
I agree; hire people you trust and help them succeed. You’re right about how most successful programs don’t have administrators micromanaging them. I doubt that many good coaches would want to deal with that headache.
