As a young player and a young coach I always looked up to Coach Diggs. When I came to Scott High as a coach and got to meet the man I had heard so many stories about I was in awe. Over the years the respect and admiration I had for the man grew. Coach Diggs was Scott High football. He influenced several generations of young people in our community and will always be remembered with respect and admiration. I know I still enjoy hearing stories about Coach Diggs from those on staff at Scott High now. Coach will be missed but always remembered. Scott High Head Coach Keith Shannon

I am a Scott supporter and I have enjoyed reading the posts on your game this week and would not reply except for the statement that the block on #81 was a penalty worthy play. I do not think it was. We had a scrambling QB and a wr who broke off his route and sealed edge on the second level. #81 did not see the wr come back and was caught square by the wr who had his head up. Hard hit, but clean from my perspective and the offials too. Hope the young man can play this week and I fully expect it will be a great game. In the playoffs, style points do not matter, survive and advance. Sometimes ugly wins wake teams up and they play better as the rounds go by. Don't be deceived by CAK scores throughout the season though. Coach Bradley and staff have so much class when the competitive part of the games are over they take their foot off the gas. Good for them respecting the game and their opponents.

I believe the score of the sunbright catholic game from 1985 was 69-0. Score could have been 169-0 but Catholic was merciful. My brother was a freshman who played for sunbright. Preston warren was a big player for catholic and they had another big time player as well a FB/LB I believe. Not that it matters but teams took better care of opposing teams and players when mismatched badly then even before the mercy rule was implemented.

Travis Tapp forgot more football yesterday than many men will ever know. He has been a fine coach for alot of years not only at Harriman but also at Oakdale. He has done more to develop young men in a positive way than most men could ever hope to. He is a fine coach who is a positive role model for young people. It sometimes is easy to blast the efforts of those when times are lean, especially when the things are going bad on Friday night. Coach Tapp and his staff will be working just as hard when things are going well or bad. Harriman is lucky to have him. He took the job when Harriman was in the middle of a very lean time, brought them back to respectability, and will get them through this rough patch.

I am praying for Basler and his family. He is a good man. I played against him in high school while at rival county schools, coached against him in later years at rival schools, and have had opportunities to go to clinics with him while on rival coaching staffs, and worked with him at other times. I consider Basler as a very good friend. He is a man that does not have enemies, only friends. Please take time to pray for Shawn and his family, I guarantee he would for you. Knowing him the way I do, I know he will pull through and be coaching the young men of Coalfield for a long time to come and supporting his beloved Jackets anyway he can. Get well soon Shawn.

No, Sunbright and Wartburg never played when Sunbright was 10-0, but they had common opponents in Coalfield and Oakdale and would not have not done well with the Tigers according to score comparisons. As for the next year, the game was a Wartburg and the score was like 28-14. The Bulldogs scored on two INT's returned for TD's and had two long runs off of the option, one by the FB and one by the QB. The Tigers drove the ball during the first half, but had some critical turnovers. Sunbright was also down three critical starters in the 01 season opener against Wartburg, Russell Simpson a very special TE-DE lost for the season to a shoulder injury in the summer, Travis Jones a speedy sure handed WR that broke his collar bone the night before diving for a pass in game prep, and Rusty England a TE-DE who was sick and could not play that night. Don't know if any of the players would have made a difference, but no one ever used it as an excuse, The Tiger Faithful tipped their hats and congratulated the Bulldogs on a tough game and wished them well as the better team won. Some of the Sunbright people can't spell and say things that make absolutely no sense, but those are the facts about the night, so lets not make things worse by posting wrong scores about games played a while back, OK?

I remember playing against Vonore back in the late 80's. In the fall of '88 they had an outstanding team and I have a video of the week seven game. I can try to make a copy and send it to you if it would be helpful.

Hate to see the players from Wartburg have to go through the process of looking for a coach two years in a row. Read in the newspaper that the board is moving in the right direction when it comes to salary, making the head coach an 11 month contract. That is great, and I am sure the school would get a lot more interest in the position, until interested applicants read on down the same article and see the board is also toying with the thought of tying the coaching position to the teaching position. In other words if you have been there 5 seasons and decide for whatever reason you did not want to coach any longer, you no longer have a job (Tenure does not apply). One action cancels the other out in spades. Local Bulldog faithful had better let their board know no quality applicants would put in for a job without any promise of future stability and the ability to put down roots and make plans to stay. People want a coach to buy a house, move to the community, and plan on staying a long time but then in talk like that the school system in essence denies any hope of that ever happening.

I respect your opinion, but then we would miss the next great cinderella team like the one from Livingston a couple of years ago that entered the playoffs as a fourth seed and a 5-5 record. They of course went on to win the state championship. Lets all hope they improve on what we have instead of going backwards.
