  1. He might leave for CC. After all he is from CC. One of those departures to AC that have been mentioned
  2. Let me say this first. I have not seen wast play. However, I would venture to say that their speed is similar to Powell and oak ridge. CC did well against hose two teams. Or, is West just in a whole others league in terms of speed? Any thoughts?
  3. Yea, Im not sure if any of you that are Sevier County fans, that are asking what type of team you will see in Cookeville this week, keep up with football in the Upper Cumberland. But Cookeville just got beat by their rival Sparta 13-ZIP last week. By the way, that is the first time that Sparta has beaten a CHS team in 17 years. In the past anybody that knew anything about high school football knew what they were getting with Cookeville. Joslin was going to have a team that played great Defense and would be fairley conservative on ofense. CHS is still developing some type of identity with coach Maynord. Here is what you will see with them as they are right now. The smallest football team from a 6A school that you will ever see. I push 300 and I weigh more than their three linebackers combined. I would venture to say that they do not have a player that weighs over 250. They do have a few boys that are real football players. At times they can score at will it seems. But then they come out and put up a big old goosie against the Warriors at Sparta. With this CHS team I would quote Forest Gump and say that they are "just like a box of chocolates."
  4. The biggest issue with most fans is that they are literally fair "weather" fans. Cookeville's crowd last Friday was sad. I know that it was cold as all get out, but football is supposed to be played in that type of weather. You need a good loud crowd, especially in a close game. That is exactly what happened at CHS last Friday, and it came back to haunt them against a Lavergne team that should not have won. What gets me is that everyone on these Cookeville threads talks about what a great team CHS has always been. If you look at our history, the same thing happens pretty much every year. We play a weak region schedule, get our butts handed to us when we try to play a decent non-region schedule. We usually win in the first round because of who we play, and then it is time to play the big boys. Where more times than not, that weak region schedule comes back to bite us. I promise you that Cookeville is the smallest 6A school in the entire state. I bet that I weigh more than their center and two guards combined. Wheres' the beef!!! We need to get some of these boys on some high protein and low sugar diets. Seriously, I would venture to say that there is not a player, that actually plays, that weighs over 235 on that whole team. In a school with that many students. SAD!!!
  5. Since the rest of East Tennessee has put their two cents worth in on this topic, I think I will also. I will try to be short and sweet. As a Campbell County football alum, and long-time football coach, I saw something in the Oak Ridge game that I have NEVER seen from a CCHS team, and very seldom see from any high school team. The Oak Ridge game was the only one that I have had the joy of seeing this year. And it was a joy. I have seen very few high school football teams that are so well coached. I saw discipline, poise, and most of all, EFFORT! That might be one of the best coaching staffs in the state. The powers that be better break out their checkbooks because somebody will be coming after the Price twins. Good teams often get lucky. Great teams know that luck only happens "when preparation meets opportunity". Very few penalties, good tackling, sound fundamentals, and confidence makes for a dangerous football program. And from what I saw, Campbell County has all of that in their favor @ this time. Good luck!
  6. One thing that you will notice about Cookeville is that the are REALLY SMALL. It always amazes me that a school the size of Cookeville (around 2,000) cannot produce any size. I bet that their O-Line does not average 175 lbs soaking wet. I'm not sure if there is something in the water around here or what, but Cookeville needs some beef to lean on people when they get into the playoffs. It's fine when you are playing some of the teams that they have went up against this year, but when you play schools with speed you need some size to counter that. However, whether it was coach Joslin or now coach Maynord, Cookeville usually finds a way to pull out tough games by playing good fundamental defense and limiting mistakes. Kicking game could play a big role in who wins this one also. My prediction CHS 31 RCHS 28.
  7. I think one thing that a lot of people fail to mention on these Campbell County threads is that there have been several years in the past when the talent level is just not comparable to the teams that they have on the schedule. However, there have also been several years throughout the programs history where the talent was there, but you have got to have coaches to harness and guide that talent. Campbell County was never willing to open up the check book and hire a decent coach until they hired coach Wells. And I would venture to say that they did not pay him anything close to what a lot of high school coaches get paid by the boosters. I know that in the four years that I played there we had some players with real potential to be great athletes. It seemed that the coaches just never had control of them. Its hard to win a game when half of your team gets kicked out of the game for doing something stupid. Use to happen all the time. It seems like under the current administration and coaches that the program is headed in the right direction.
  8. When you all are talking about Coach Kerr at Clinton, are referring to Josh Kerr? Did not know that he was coaching there.
  9. That is because he is from Campbell County!!! Played there his freshman year until Kerr talked him and some others into coming to AC. Not sure how much that happens now, but it use to happen quite a bit.
  10. If you don't live here then how do you know "it sounds like him." The players are all aware of how Coach J feels about posting on here. He would not go against his wishes. Again, I can promise you that this player was not on here posting at that time or any other time.
  11. Whoever this is, I can promise you that is not Patrick Keener writting any message that is under the user name Keenhill or whatever it is. And also, I would appreciate it if his name was not brought up on here again by anyone. Now I usually stay out of post that have anything to do with Cookeville, but he does not need to have people thinking that he is on here writting things, so somebody can go crying to Coach J about players being on here.
  12. I will say what everyone else is afraid to say because they know what idiots the people that run the city of Newport and the Cocke County Board of Ed. are. I have witnessed it first hand, and "doing something that makes sense in Newport does not happen." Anything that might be good for the the school system simply will not happen. They are nothing but all talk and no action. They have been running the same good old buddy system in Cocke County for years, and that is why if certain people like the AD at Cocke County High does not want something to happen, the school board will not let it happen. It is sad that there are so many great people that live in Cocke County, and especially in Cosby, but Cocke Co. is the laughing stock of the state because of the rednecks that run our school baord and local government.
  13. The "big picture" is that when you have the ability to recruit as a high school team, you can pretty much schedule whom ever you like. And you are probablly going to match up against anyone who comes your way. I guess thats just life, but I'm pretty sure that MBA or any other private school for that matter would not have the loads of tallent that they have if it was not for the generous donations to your athletic fund. Just my opinion, but you know what they say about those. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
