  1. Tennessee is catching up to the "powerhouses" of the country. It has been a long process but we are heading in the right direction. The entire state has shown vast improvements. We have a multitude of kids from age 5- middle school that place on the national level at all the big tournaments. I truly believe that the best of Tennessee high school wrestling will be in just a few short years. In the past there have only been a handful of kids that could compete on the national level from Tennessee each year. I can think of at least 20 off the top of my head that have the potential to place in any tournament in the country right now.
  2. Good points. With the tournament being in the west its only natural to have more participants. Also a lot of kids dont make the trip if they know they cant win where if it was in their region they might have participated.I do feel the west and the entire state is making great strides though in numbers of participation. I wish we in the south could get more response from our middle school age kids but with the various middle school organizations all having different seasons its hard. I looked at the weigh in sheets for the entire state and broke it down fairly accurate by region. Some kids from other areas weighed in at Dickson so I had to do some quick math. This isnt exact but its pretty close to the number of participants from each region for the little kids state. West -162 participants North and east- 85 participants combined between the two regions south- 60 participants (11 champs out of 60 kis is pretty strong)
  3. I want to thank the Novice Team Chattanooga for their efforts in the Dixie Duals. The boys all wrestled their hearts out and made us all proud. The final match of the day made the whole trip worthwhile. The team barely won in the 4th round and looked very flat. With our toughest match of the day coming up against Georgia Red it wasnt looking very bright. The kids saved the best for last though and came out with some quick pins to set the tone for the rest of the match. We won some matches I didnt think we would and that was the difference. Its very rewarding to see kids do great things! Special thanks to Scott Mcnelly for bringing down the Knoxville kids to wrestle with us. You guys are heading in the right direction up there, keep up the hard work. I also want to thank Eric Collins for all his help, I think I have finally found someone who can scream as loud as I can. A special thanks goes out to Mike "Poncherello " Hatcher for putting all this together. Good luck at the Novice state this weekend ! Scores: Team Chatt 51- Al Red 15 Chatt 69 - Al Select 9 Chatt 48 - Al Blue 37 Chatt 51 Ga Red 33 60-Landon Wheaton (Soddy Daisy) 3-1 65-Jonah Bird (Red Raiders) 3-1 70- Colton Hacksaw Landers (Red Raiders) 3-1 75- Joshua Lacoe (Red Raiders) Fought hard and scored valuable points 80-Caleb Powell (Red Raiders) 4-0 85-Chase Nuchols (William Blount) 3-1 90- Nathan Walling (Mt. 15. Matt, I sent you an email on the things we discussed regarding the clinic.
  16. This is correct per Aau policy. Coach Price copied a flier that had some misinformtion. We will redo the flier so that two consecutive age groups arent during the same session. This will allow kids to wrestle up an age group. Below is the rule pertaining to this in the Team Tennessee Aau handbook. "Wrestlers may compete in both their own division AND ONE division level higher if the scheduling format of the tournament allows it. Competition in a different division will require the payment of an addition entry fee. Wrestlers will NOT BE ALLOWED to compete in two divisions during the same session."
  17. I believe Adrian Norfleet lost his last match as a feshman to Chattanooga Centrals Brent Pope who ended up being a state runner up his senior year losing to jason Villars by 3 in the finals. I do not think Norfleet lost again after that match his freshman year but Im not positive.
  18. The middle school version of this match-up is today at 5:00. Should be a good one as the blue team will win with their horses and then the red team will win with theirs. It will come down to the wire with match ups between new kids to the sport.
  19. The Chattanooga area is in dire need of youth coaches. We have multiple teams and areas without coaches. We have lost 5-6 teams over the last 4 years due to the lack of willing coaches. One of the biggest reasons Chattanooga has been dominant in wrestling is because of the # and quality of youth teams. I can assure you that the middle school teams that will no longer have youth teams are about to feel the results. This will in turn spill over to the high schools these teams feed. Some schools that have been powers in the past are starting to see the results this year. I can assure you the rest of the state has been trying to catch up to the standard set by the Chattanooga area and the tide will soon be turning in their favor due to the hard work put in for many years. Blackman, Christian Brothers, and a few others will soon be at the top of the wrestling world due to their years of hard work beginning at the ground level. Its time for some people to give back to the sport and keep it strong in our area. Someone gave their time to you at some point so please return the favor. If anyone is interested in helping out please email me or reply on here with contact info. Even if you dont have the time to be the head coach we can use any help we can get.
  20. The Aau middle school state duals will be held Jan 9th at Utc. This should be an outstanding tournament as a lot of the Chattanooga area public schools will be able to attend this year for the first time. More tournament information will be added soon. Please pass this along to any midle school coaches. This will be the closest thing to a true state duals tournament we have ever had. You can contact Mike Hatcher at coachhatcher@gmail.com or Mike Sutherland at msutherland16@aol.com with any questions. This will fill up fast so please email us to get a spot reserved.
  21. More results: Chattanooga area middle schoolers Nick Boyett-Scottsboro/Chattanooga wrestling Club. 2nd place 136 lbs, lost 6-2 in finals. great tournament for a very hard working young man. Blake Sutherland-Baylor/Chattanooga wrestling Club. 8th place 112 lbs, missed 7th,8th place match, lost to champion and overtime loss to 4th place finisher on controversial call. great effort after a long absence from the mat. Josh Deckelman-baylor/chattanooga wrestling club incredibly tough draw, finished 2-2 with loss to champion and 7th place finisher Chris Debien,Michael Murphy,Aaron Oliver,Jonathan Ragsdale, Tyler Hill all wrestled extremely hard and represented the Chattanooga area well. Overall I believe we were about .500 for the tournament and lost several heartbreakers and overtime matches that would have kept them alive. A great effort by all wrestlers from Cwc.
  22. Very good points on this topic and something that needs to be clarified. According to this interpretation if the offensive wrestler has a two on one tilt and the bottom man bellies out and then the top man puts a half in while keeping the bar arm with one hand he would not receive back points because the wrist was never released. what if you run a half with a bar arm then let go of the half and run a chicken wing with a bar? Is this no points due to never letting the bar arm go? The point about the leg coming out in the x-body ride before switching from one scoring series to another would also be based on this same inerpretation and therfore should also be ruled as no back points. We are really limiting the offensive mans opportunities to score points this way and creating a boring wrestling match that will only further cause people to drift away from our sport. If you switch from one tilt to a different one even if you have the wrist shouldnt be ruled as no points. There are basic principles in wrestling that should not be deemed (moves, or advantageous) such as wrist control.
  23. Coach, shoot me an email as to which headgear you are interested in. Brand/style ect..
