  1. Wow, shows how much I know about High School Football
  2. An interesting matchup indeed. Hendersonville's defense proved to be the difference maker against Franklin. Now they will have to match up agaisnt a faster Hunters Lane team. But I actually believe that they got help from Franklin's mistakes and a lot of people might consider that a fluke. However, Hendersonville will prove that they are for real in this game Hendersonville 22 Hunters Lane 18
  3. Actually, Campbell (the UT Committ) has had a mediocre season, but it hasn't really been his fault. He really has been limited to returning punts and I applaud Hendersonville's decision to kick it out of bounds all night. Campbell exploded out of the gates last year mainly in part due to the strong passing game. However, Franklin has struggled to find a QB with a good arm and Campbell's stats has paid the price. He is still a good athlete who makes plays, they just can't get the ball to him.
  4. I almost saw this coming. Ending the regular season, Ravenwood had built up a lot of momentum that seemed to be crushed with that loss against Dickson Co. I thought Gallatin was a little overrated, but I still thought they would come up strong. Congratulations Ravenwood and I'll always remember never to count out Coach Rector and the Raptors again.
  5. All year long I had said that Independence was overrated and the Franklin game was a fluke. The bashing was just our lttle way of saying "I told you so". Plus at Centennial, we can't really talk about our team, so we like to bash others.
  6. Wow. This wasn't supposed to happen. The only team from 5-5A that was supposed to advanced was Gallatin. Turns out they were the only team that didn't win. The shock is still being felt here in Williamson and Dickson Co. I'm gonna point at laugh any time I drive by Franklin High Anyhow, on to Round 2. The stakes are higher and both teams are coming off upsets (although some Hunters Lane fans will attest that their win wasn't an upset). Alot of momentum will follow these two teams into Nashville this Friday night. A very interesting matchup indeed, so who comes away with this one?
  7. #1-Ravenwood only had one loss last year against a very strong, very capable Brentwood Academy #2-Being a Centennial fan I must ask; what did we do? About the game, this was just Franklin at its worst. If you ask me, this looks like a typical Clayton flaw of not preparing enough for the game. I think all it was is Franklin underestimating their opponent and looking ahead to round two. Seriously, this was supposed to be the one game from the 5/6 matchup that wasn't supposed to be close! Franklin expected the Mighty Commandos to roll over and and play dead. That didn't happen and Franklin payed the ultimate price. Congratulations to Hendersonville in this game.
  8. A lot of people were calling for the region 6 sweep in this one. BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED? All four games were considered upsets and now two of the best teams in the state are done. What happened to 6-5A?
  9. I actually would have picked Ravenwood over Gallatin, but I feel they lost a lot of the momentum they had in that loss against Dickson Co. I think Gallatin's D will shut down the predominantly run-based Raptor attack and gets on to Round 2. Gallatin 17 Ravenwood 6 Hendersonville was actually looking good earlier in the year, then again so was Centennial. The late season collapse proved that they cannot perform well when it gets down to the wire. Franklin is easily the best team from 6-5A and they come away with this one. Franklin 28 Hendersonville 3 Hunters Lane has been a thorn in the side for 65A over the years and this year should be no different. Brentwood should bring their passing game to the field and should test their speedy DBs throughout the game. Although this isn't their year, Brentwood should come away with this one in a close contest. Brentwood 17 Hunters Lane 14 Dickson Co. is probably the most underrated team in the playoofs. They easily could have beaten Franklin, but a couple bad breaks gave Franklin the win. Antioch has never faired well against their first round opponents and Dickson's defense will make sure that tonight is no exception. Dickson Co. 31 Antioch 13
  10. That could mean they have already talked to someone or might have even had a deal in place. I've seen Gregory, Lifsey, and some other coaches talking alot more. This might not mean anything much, but it could mean that there is some serious consideration.
  11. It that case, I'm not sure that would be a choice. As Rookie45 said, its almost impossible for a AD to make a living on being an AD alone. It would have to be a teacher that is very involved in athletics. Otherwise, the position would almost certainly have to be a coach of something.
  12. If Gregory retires, that would open the door for a dual Coach/AD position. If no coach wants to accept that role, there is a possibility that Lifsey could become an interim AD. This might be better for the department as there would be no conflict of interest in teams. That way, he would also keep his current salary plus a little extra. I'm not saying that would happen, I'm just saying that might be a good idea.
  13. That's very true. 6-5A is the probably the best region in the state and from my experience 5-5A has put up a fight every year. Fzrom Centennial's upset over an undefeated Antioch by a 24-19 score and then barely losing to Hendersonville 28-27. I have never seen a game between these two regions that was either a complete mismatch or a total blowout. I expect the same this week.
  14. Dickson County is a very underrated team that runs the wing T very well. Also, Franklin is more of a spread team, but I've seen them run the Wing-T from time to time.
  15. Let me put in my two cents on this, since I've lived this experience.... I'm from Michigan, where High School football is a commodity every Friday, and fan support that rivals Texas. There is nothing more devoting to your team than spelling "Pioneers" on your bare chest in 30 degree weather. Here's the point, Michigan (as well as many other states up North) do not use the region system that we use in Tennessee. They use leagues, which contain a mixture of teams from all Different Classifications. Not all the teams play each other, which means that it is uncertain who the best team in the league truly is. The season goes through fine and dandy, but when the season's over and playoff time begins, the state is immersed in controversy that rivals the President eating a puppy during his state of the union. The playoff seeds are determined by polls, which as everyone knows can be completely biased. The only guarantee spot in the playoffs is the League Champion and often times the other teams that held their own get left out. And to make things better, the bracket is not divided into regions, but is a statewide bracket. Take last st year for instance. By hometown team the Dearborn, Mi Pioneers finished the season undefeated. Their league rivals, Allen Park, also finished undefeated. We were alot better team than Allen Park but we didn't play them so we couldn't tell. When the polls came out, Allen Park got the #1 seed and we were stuck with the 8 seed. (Which would be considered middle of the pack) So instead of having home field advantage, we were forced to travel accross the state to Rockford, the defending and eventual state Champs. We lost that game 10-7 in overtime, while Allen Park waltzed through their first round matchups and into the state finals, where they eventually lost 35-0. The polls screwed us (and many other teams) over. The point is the way Tennessee handles the playoffs is alot better than seeding. Every team in a region is evenly matched and every team plays each other, ensuring that truly the best teams in the region will finish at the top. After the Region Matchups, It's a free for all, but this way, it ensures that the best teams will be going farther than the weaker teams. This way is fair and ensures a lot les grumbling.
  16. I was about to mention that name. I've also heard great things about Tim Harris, a good QB who can double as a Running Back or a Reciever. He's fast as lightning too. Basically he's like Chaz Scales only a bit bigger.
  17. WKU? Congrats on moving up. I'll be there next year. All I'm saying is that if I was him, I would at least look into the school. Not neccesarily turning in an application, but just asking some questions, talk to the administration a little bit. If he likes what he sees, then he can consider his options. All I meant was he could just look into the possibility.
  18. I wasn't talking about the region. I was talking about Oak Ridge.
  19. Rebelguy, Former player or not, unless you are Tim Johnson, or unless you can read his thoughts, you have no right to bash other people's theories. From what I know of him, he just doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do things 100% for the money. I think the football program would have to portray some potential so he could build that program. If he thinks Centennial has greater potential tha BGA, he might look in to the possibility.
  20. Just a quick clarification. When I posted this topic, I did not neccissarily mean "who is the best football player from Tennessee". I meant who had the best high school career. I don't know if that changes any of your answers or not.
  21. No. TO actually attended high school in Atlanta. He just went to UTC.
  22. Im suprised that no one here has brought up Longmire from Bruceton Central. He was a solid two-way player and could be played as both a Running Back and a Wide Reciever and is ranked in the top 50 nationally in several offensive categories. I'm also suprised no one brought up Patrick Turner. Although his stats weren't stacked like other recievers, he was always the guy you could give the ball to in clutch situations. He was also the #1 ranked prospect a few years ago and now is a solid 3rd reciever at USC behind Smith and Jarrett.
  23. I didn't know he went to school in TN. What school did he go to?
  24. Becker was an All-State linebacker from Ravenwood last year. He's playing Division I football somewhere, but I don't remember where. Thanks for reminding me of Thomas, I completely forgot about him. I wouldn't leave out LB Luke Steckel from Brentwood either.
