  1. I can only talk about the 6 middle school matches that we had at the Tournament and the 4 referees we saw. Of the four refs, only 1 had the ability/experience/maturity to control the match and we only saw him once. I don't make the claim that the other three referees are typical of the pool of Alabama referees. However, for our kids??™ safety, especially the middle school and up, we need to have in place an independent way to make sure the referees are competent.
  2. Word of praise has to go out to G.L. and the parents of South East United Team. They came in second to a tough Florida team in the middle school division. They wrestled Florida twice loosing by 2 or 3 points with some very quick pins the first time. The second time several guys had to wrestle up to fill the hole left by a wrestler that had to leave. I think the last match when they lost to FL was thier best effort. I agree that the Referees were not adequate. I can only talk about the middle school group of Refs but few had the experience to work at that level. In the most intense matches they lost control and allowed themselves to be intimidated by the Alabama (A team) and to a certain extent the Florida group of coaches. I never relized how much the safety of our wrestlers are in the hands of the Refs until that tournament. The Refs allowed the definition of potentially dangerous to be stretched to the limit with bending and torqueing the knee, shoulder, elbow and slamming your opponent. If possible, as a Tennessee wrestling community, we should insist that the credentials of these refs be reviewed or approved by a qualified Tennessee individual or organization. We are risking serious injury to our wrestlers if we do not. SD
  3. No offense to the ones selected they are all good quality wrestlers but I would have voted for the 76# match with Gage of Soddy Daisy and a Hunter wrestler(?) as the best match and Shaq Holland of East Ridge as best wrestler. The 76# match had to be one of the best matches I have seen all year. Both kids would not give up and fought hard to gain every point or deny every point. In my opinion, the best wrestler award could have been given to Turbo or Campbell but neither kid was challenged. However, the 91# kid from East Ridge beat both Loftis and Hixson (two excellent wrestlers) on his way to win the tournament.
  4. I know of three possible sources for Mats. The first is the Senter School in Chattanooga that closed down recently. I think I saw thier old mats at a tournament recently. Second, Chattanooga Junior High School had mats about 5 years ago before they dropped wrestling. They may still have them. Third, Notre Dame High School has some OLD matts in the old high school gym off of Douglas Street. I doubt if anyone knows or remembers the matts.
  5. What are the results of last nights region 2 tournament
  6. Can anybody post the results of the Seymour/Greenback duals last night?
  7. what did Seymour do this weekend and specifically what did you do?
  8. Assuming Greenbacks 171 had not messed up and wrestled at his correct weight, what do you think would have been his score against Seymour's 171?
  9. You better get your butt in school instead of playing on the comuputer. Go to school and get the grades so that you can land a job like me and play on company time.
  10. Glad to see the McCroskey kid back in action. I was worried that he had hung up his wrestling shoes for good. Also, what happened with the Holland Kid? I thought he was pretty tough. sdwrestling
  11. The Seymour team better stay home with Momma. Post Script It was great getting to see the Seymour Coaches and wrestlers agian this year. You guys did great with some new, young talent. They had a lot of fight and determination. Hopefully they will stay with wrestling and continue to improve. I especially liked that Ward boy at 91 pounds. I was hoping he would see C. in a match of the Cousins. You guys are pretty good even if you are a bunch of momma's boys. Good luck sdwrestling
  12. How about posting your proposal here so it can be discussed? It maybe improved or a concensus reached.
  13. I would like to thank BCB and Gary for taking the time to put together the OLPH team and inviting my son to participate. He has had a great time and has learned a lot. They are a remarkable group of kids. It will be fun watching them grow and compete in the years to come. BM
