Nice win for Oakland. If you look at the earlier thread on 7AAA that was locked out for language, most of the people making predictions had Riverdale finishing either 3rd or 4th in the district. They are a young team with only 2 seniors that get play time and 2 freshmen on defense, so sweeping the district was kind of surprising. They should be good again next year, although losing Compton will definitely hurt them. Went to the Siegel - Riverdale game last night and most of the game was played with Riverdale on its heels. Siegel was definitely the aggressor and was first to most balls all over the field. Riverdale took advantage of its scoring chances and the defense stopped numerous chances by Siegel for the 2-0 victory. I'm a Riverdale supporter, but they could be upset in the district tourney if they are not careful.

Blackmans goalie kept them in the game the first half. He did get caught on Pleitez' goal, but he also made 3 or 4 superb stops and saves with his same aggressive style. I didn't see the handball in question and the ref was way out of position when the Blackman player was taken down in the box, but this game could have been 5-1 just as easily as 3-3. One thing that did get old really fast, was the non-stop verbal abuse of the ref by some of those in attendance. He missed calls both ways, but didn't cause either team to win or lose.

Riverdale - 5 seniors with 3 being starters. All 3 were all-district, with Becca Smith the MVP

Round 4 would have been fun and guaranteed the champion would come from District 7. So even though my daughter will probably not talk to me for a while, I will be rooting for Siegel to win on Saturday.

After todays game against Riverdale I would like to second the nominations of the Dobyns Bennett girls. The goalie was outstanding and I believe it was Tori who scored the only goal of the game.

Correct report. First half was controlled by DB and they scored the lone goal on a nice pass to #11, I think, the Riverdale goalie got her fingers on it but it still went in. 2nd half was almost all Riverdale, but the DB goalie stopped everything they threw at her including 3 breakaways that Riverdale usually puts away. The DB defenders need to buy the goalie dinner tonite necause she saved the game for them. Good luck to DB against Brentwood tomorrow, they have a first class team and their fans were first class as well. Congrats to Riverdale also. Hold your heads high, you had an excellent season.

Also got to meet BRSoccer last night. Seems like a pretty good guy, we just happen to root for different teams. His daughter is a heck of a player, wish her and Siegel good luck with Cleveland and hopefully we will be joining you at state next week.

Siegel 2 Riverdale 1 2 OT's

Scoreless game for 74 minutes. Riverdale scores with 6 minutes left and Siegel answers with only 2 minutes left. First overtime scoreless, Siegel scores winner at 6 minute mark of 2nd overtime. MVM, guess I'll see you on Saturday, unless the unexpected happens.

Heres another twist. IF, and I stress IF, Riverdale were to win tonite and host the sub-state on Saturday, the stadium will not be available due to 40 or more bands from all over the state using the field for their competition. I've heard moving the game to Blackman could be an option. Of course, if Siegel wins, its all a moot point

I took a flyer on Shelbyville. Don't really see it happening, but my daughter has quite a few friends on the Shelbyville team, so we gave them some love.

The word I have gotten is the Soccer game would be played at 4pm at the stadium with the football game to follow. Riverdale must beat Columbia tomorrow for this to be an issue. Not sure what the scenario would be if Shelbyville happens to upset Siegel, who would be the host for the finals????

Through my eyes, this was a very defensive game with not a lot of scoring chances for either team. 1st 20-25 minutes of the game Siegel was the aggressor and controlled the pace as well as having a 3 or 4 corners. rest of the half pretty even with Riverdale finally getting its offense going. 2nd half fairly even, until Hanah got loose in the box and drilled one into the net. Siegel pushed hard the rest of the game, but Riverdale was able to clear when needed. I would be surprised if the two teams dont meet again in the regional final next week, but you never know.

Round 2 goes to Riverdale 1-0, Hanna McGowan scores halfway thru the 2nd half. Siegel had their chances also. Riverdale will host Columbia Central Tuesday night Siegel travels to Shelbyville for their game.
