  1. Hey guys there is a great article written in todays issue of the Chattanooga Times Free Press about Sam and her effort last Friday night. Its also expresses how she affects the Grundy Co. team each week. This is a link to the article. Times Free Press
  2. Hey guys and gals. If you have a little bit of time, it is well worth it to go look at the pictures of this game. You can see the excitement on both teams faces hoping that the shoots will go in. She wears jersey #23 Shutterfly Pro Galleries
  3. I agree Hardwood007. If Bledsoe had not run out of steam, then the game would have been closer. And with Grundy loosing to Chattanooga Christian, Bledose, if they play all four quarters against both Chattanooga Christian and Grundy, they have a good chance to pull off an upset even during the regualar season.
  4. Good Job Brittany! But i have a question? Not taking anything away from her, but I think she is the third or fourth girl have have seen on CoachT with 1000 points. What points are you counting? Are you counting just regular season games and season ending tournament, or are you counting summer ball and play days. The reason I'm asking is some other players that have scored 1000 points have counted preseason games and play days. Some teams may play 3 or 4 games in one day at a play day. Once again, not taking anything away from Brittany, or any other girls that has scored 1000 points. Thats a HUGE milestone, and it really speaks out as to the caliber of a player these girls can be.
  5. Look back over the past years you have watched girls basketball. There is always a girl sitting on the bench that is better than one of the starters. This comes down to who your parents are, who you know, and what your last name is. All coaches will tell you that they play the players that work the hardest at practice and hustle, but not many coaches play their players according to their hustle. It happens all the time, and happened to me. A freshmen with a well known name came up and was put on varsity over me, a sophomore, even though the coach hadn't seen him play all summer. So i quit. That was completely the wrong decision on my part and i have to live with that every day. Look at your high school program, this happens at every school and at every level.
  6. Whoa Whoa Whoa! Lighten Up A Bit I thought the game was well played until the fourth quarter when two of our girls fouled out. With two girls fouling out, that means the other team was in the bonus most of the fourth quarter. They were playing AAA Soddy Daisy. Soddy Daisy has beat Grundy twice this season. That tells you a little bit about their ability. I agree they could have played better but the girls are still playing good ball. Plus they started stalling with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. There is always room for improvement but give them a little credit.
  7. Hey the truth hurts. As a person there are too things that I don't like people to do to me. This curse at me or lie to me. I will tolerate the cursing before I will tolerate the lying. If the coach was telling the truth it probably hurt. The world will lie to you, cheat you, and beat you while your down. They will hardly ever tell you the truth. It is better to be told the truth once than to be lied to 100 times. As a famous quote from A Few Good Men, "You can't handle the truth" Stand up and be the adult and tell you kids the truth no matter what it cost you or them. When someone tells you the truth, you know that they really care about you.
  8. The Marion Co. game has also been postponed due to sickness in both schools. The next game for the girls will be the Christmas tournament in Dalton, Georgia.
  9. A player can only be as good as they want to be, and a team can only go as far as they want to. Good hand, eye, and foot coordination comes from working on them. Over the past years the idea of a tri-athlete in high school has declined. Many coaches would rather their athletes not play another sport, so they can focus on basketball. These three skills can be learned and improved by playing other sports. For ladies, volleyball builds all three. You must see the ball with your eyes, time your jump with your feet, and hit the ball with your hands. This will help to get your timing down on when to jump to get a rebound. Also with softball, you must see the ball with your eyes, move your feet in front of the ball, and catch the ball with your hands/glove. These three skills should be the basics for the little leagues. Slowly little league basketball is beginning to show up. Everyone wants their 10 year old to be the best he can be NOW. Most don't understand, you didn't learn to tie your shoes before you learned to walk. They Need the basics. How to dribble, How to Shoot a lay up, How to shot a jump shot, How to make a good pass, How to get position to get a rebound. Once you learn these you can go up a level to, How to run a press defense, How to run an offensive play, How to read the defense, and so on. To improve you foot work and speed, you can use dots. It is a rubber mat with 5 dots on it, 2-1-2. There are 6 or 8 different ways you work your way around the mat. Use the baseline and have your players jump back and forth across the line as fast as they can with their feet together. Also have them run in place on the baseline. They must touch on both sides of the line. To improve hand eye coordination you must spend time throwing and catching the ball. HEY! Have a little fun outside of the gym with an egg toss or water ballon toss. This will teach them to have soft hands. And reward the winners. This all sounds simple, but we are still writing on this thread.
  10. HANDS have to be the most over looked part of playing basketball. I watched a team last night that could not control the boards because they could not pull down a rebound. They would get a hand on it but they could not gain control. Many times the ball went out of bounds, which means the other team get another try under their own basket. Another important part of Post play is knowing where the defense is at, and knowing which way to turn to get the best shot. In high school ball, you don't see a lot of good defense in the post. The offensive post player must take advantage of the defense being on the top side by drop stepping to a lay up. Or, they must realize that the defense is on the bottom side and look for a turn around jumper, or the all important kick out. Most post players have a routine and by the 3rd or 4th time they have touched the ball the defense knows which way they are turning and can easily make a good defensive play. More and more today you are seeing the zone defense. And i've seen some really good teams struggle against the zone. To beat the zone you need two techniques. The kick out and the drive and dish. The kick out should occur when the post player gets doubled down on. When this happens some one else is automatically open. The kick out often sets up an even better shot for the passer, given the passer relocates. The Drive and dish will beat a zone every time, or at least get them out of the zone defense. When the point guard drives, the defense moves to the ball. Many times this leaves the post player oppostie of the ball WIDE open. Or the dish can go to the outside for the three. The problem with the three is, "you live and die by the three." If you take the ball to the hole, you will get fouled especially against the zone. A Good Coach must make changes in order to win based on what he or she sees in the first few minutes of a game.
  11. Your right Indian. They did the right thing by stalling. Had they not stalled, the game would have went 10 or 20 more minutes because of all the fouls.
  12. Sequathice shot 17 of 33 from the free throw line. The lady Indians were up 37-19 at the half. A very physical game with a lot of fouls on both teams. Van Buren only missed a few free throws. And Sequathchie ran the clock out the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter.
  13. Lakyn plays AAU ball with Team Pride out of Smyrna Tennessee, HoopTown USA. Her coach is former Lady Vol Tiffany Woosley. He team finished state champions, and 3rd in the nation over the summer.
  14. Kidnplay which owl team are you talking about. Coach is always looking for teams to play. This year she has already traveled to Heritage and Upperman. If your closer than Heritage then she would probably love you play ya'll.
  15. Come on guys. If the lady Indians wanted to score a 100, they would have scored 100 with no problem. The starters didn't play but maybe 2 minutes in the second half.
  16. The substitutions started early in the first quarter an continued through out the first half. The starters were on the bench all of the 4th and most of the third quarter. Some of the girls don't like sitting out because they hustle in practice and only get to play 8 or 10 minutes a game. These girls have earned the right to play and they expect to play. Plus like Indian said, they have 6 BIG games in the next two weeks. 4 of which are district games. Next week they play on monday, tuesday, thursday, and friday. These girls need to play so when they are needed to play all 4 quarters, they will have the physical and mental ability to do so.
  17. Sequatchie County Lady Indians are a real good ball team. They lost to Upperman, ranked number 1 in class AA by Coacht, by 12 points. Had they made their fouls shoots they would have won. But i have heard Heritage is a good ball team as well. Should be a GREAT ball game.
