  1. Van Buren girls handed Forrest their first district loss tonight at Van Buren. I was very surprised by the crowd turnout from the defending state champs. I know it was a long trip, but hey, its Friday night. I would be willing to say that there were more ball players from Forrest than fans in the gym. Congrats to Van Buren, however.
  2. I think you're right, the push in the back was first. Obvious intentional foul
  3. I agreed with one of them, but not the one at half court. The defender was going for the ball...or it looked that way to me
  4. May have to disagree with the "anyone who has this kind of background can't be a bad coach" comment. Did you ever see Magic Johnson coach???
  5. I will be the first to go off when I think the game could've had a different outcome because of the refs...not the case in this game. We really, really, really, miss Grissom and it showed against Sequatchie. I will admit that the outcome would've been different with her. However, Seq. Co. girls have a good team this year and it would've been a good game to watch if we had all of our starters.
  6. I was reading the girls info about tonights game and someone from Sequatchie said that they couldn't wait to get back to using Chattanooga area refs so the rules can applied the correct way??? It has always been called differently with the Chatt. refs.....physical games. Are you surprised that SC had so many called fouls? Thats the way you played and thats the way the game was called. Don't understand your point.
  7. Yes, she was leading the team in scoring with about 16-17 per game. She also was a really good ball handler and we miss that also. It was not much of a game tonight. Kudos to Sequatchie, you have a really well balanced team. Best part about the coach for Sequatchie, I didn't hear her very much tonight. She was a little annoying last year taking a bow in front of the crowd
  8. The first five games this year looked really positive. After the injury to one of our players, not the same team. I want to remain positive about the team, but a big part of it is sitting on the bench now.
  9. Who knows BP. If our boys play the way they did Tuesday night, we win. If they play the way they did last night, Dunlap wins. I hope we are more focused Tuesday night.
  10. Not much of a game, huh auntkim? We really felt the loss of one our starters tonight. Maybe we can work on a few things before you travel to VB and make it a better game.
  11. I don't know anything about Friendship and I've seen Clay girls play one game this year. I do know that we've been in both districts, Clay Co. when I played, and Friendship a couple of years ago. I gotta go with district 7. This has nothing to do with this game, but what a history of great programs, Clarkrange, Pickett, Rickman, Jackson Co. and Upperman(both were in 7 when I played)...several state championships among these schools!
  12. Come on crazyknees, have you ever scored 43 in a high school game? Can't you give our boy some credit for working hard when he could've been doing anything else but spending time in the gym? Does it matter who he played when he gets 43? It was a double A school. He was in the "zone" where everything was falling. He missed at least 4 free throws, which I know made him mad. Give a little credit when its due.
  13. Coltsrule?? Indianapolis Colts?? If so, you should know about not playing defense Just kidding...You have an interesting take on the game, however. 1. You were not there, 2. I'm not sure that you know what the final score was, and 3. How can you tell that one team played defense and one team did not?
  14. I agree with you jamieroper. The only problem with making the right adjustments during the game is that we, Van Buren girls, were in foul trouble early in the first half. Middle Tenn. Christian was shooting the double bonus early in quarter no. 2.
  15. The first 4 threads that I read tonight were about how bad the refs were. I just came from a game tonight where Middle Tenn. Christian School girls attempted 33 foul shots and Van Buren girls shot 7. The refs missed another one and one or it could've been 35 to 7. Van Buren girls lost the game but come on, 33 to 7 foul shots? On two different occasions VB was called for a hot spot violation for catching the ball on the post, making a move in the paint and shooting. Both were waived off. Whats up with the officiating? Anyone else got gripes about the refs?
  16. Hey grammer, what do you know about the VB / MTCS matchup? I know that VB has played some triple and double A schools prior to the district, what about MTCS?
  17. The fouls that you mentioned were the ones that were called. I'm talking about the ones that were not called. And yes I've been around this rilvary for quite a while. My point is that the refs in this area do not call the same as in the UC area. Do you think the refs know ahead of time that they are going to be calling the VB/Bledsoe game and know from tradition that it is going to be physical? You missed the point all the way around.
  18. Thanks punchline. I got to see the game last night. It could've been 30 points if Coach Luna had wanted it to be. WC played with them in the first quarter but just didn't have the man power. Gallatin played about 18 different people. They have one kid, Marsallis Malone, who is going to be getting some looks if he hasn't already--he is a player.
  19. Why has no one mentioned how physical the refs allowed the game to be? I thought that VB took way too many outside shots to win the game. But, in their defense, every time they passed the ball inside they got hammered and the ref standing under the goal watching for a walking violation. It is always different when playing in the valley. Should be a different game when they play at VB.
  20. If any of the teams from the Upper Cumberland ever venture into the Chattanooga area (Pikeville, Dunlap, Whitwell, Jasper, etc.) get ready for culture shock when it comes to the officiating. They make the refs in the UC area look like professionals. By the way, Bibb makes a habit of working the officials as quick as the ball goes up.
  21. VB Girls won by 18, 57-39. Bledsoe only scored 2 points in the second quarter, and 7 in the third.
