  1. Excuse me Matlock, but I believe you are incorrect. Might want to check your lawbooks again. Slander and Libel both fall under the catagory of defamation. Slander being oral defamation (meaning speaking it to someone) and libel being published defamation (which includes writing or broadcasting). Can you show me where I have stated such opinions as absolute facts? Anyways, I'm done with this subject. It is time to start talking about meaningful basketball topics asothers have stated. The season is here and whether or not my opinions have merit or not can be judged by others. Once again, congrats on the big win. I'll be rooting for you to get another one next Friday.
  2. First, let me congratulate Volunteer for their big win last night. Shows just what a team with alot of heart and determination can accomplish. Good luck next week. Now, to respond to post. As far as the lawsuit, I believe it would be libel instead of slander. And if you truly think you could make that stand up in court based solely on me expressing my opinions, then have at it. Also you said yourself that your teams play could be considered dirty. Next, I don't think you have a clue who I am. I know I don't know who you are. That was pretty bright of you to mention that you would see me at least twice this year, considering I'm posting in the Big 9 conference forum. But anyways, I invite you to come over and sit with me when you do see me. I won't bite. Maybe we could have some good conversation about basketball and possibly discuss this matter and try and understand it from each others perspective. I don't think we could ever agree, however that doesn't mean we cannot understand one another. I would welcome this. So, please, if you truly know who I am, when you do see me, have a seat and I'll buy the drinks.
  3. I have a feeling, or at least hope that this is the year that something is done about it. Like I said before, someone is going to get hurt if it is allowed to continue. Of course that seems to be their goal.
  4. There is a difference between physical play and dirty play. Fighting for every rebound, setting a solid screen, bodying up with a guy is alot different than taking out his legs on a jumpshot, tripping a guy when he gets thru your screen, or taking a guy out without even trying to go for the ball when he's beat you for a layup. Intentionally trying to injure opposing players is beyond physical play, its just plain dirty, low, and classless. Thats when coaches start sending in complaints, because they are concerned about their team. Your "Foul_cons" are known for the garbage they throw around on the floor. I guess your proud of that.
  5. LOL I guess if this is so sickening then close your eyes, cause its not going to end. This is only the begining. Just wait till the season starts and one by one teams and coaches start complaining.
  6. Wow. I had to read that a few times but I think I know what you said. I believe I gave Volunteer credit for playing hard, and having heart. But it doesn't excuse the dirty play. And you can stop denying it, everyone in the conference knows it. The coaches, the players, the fans. Everyone see's it, or it wouldn't be a topic at all. You see people on here talking about teams playing physical all of the time. But only Volunteer gets talked about when the subject of dirty and classless play comes up. I guess everyone else is wrong and only the people at Volunteer are right. And if your coach doesn't coach this way, then why doesn't he put an end to the slop his "Foul-cons" are known for? There are some good athletes, good kids, and good people at Volunteer. Its a shame that one coach can overshadow that with his lack of class. And you talk about winning basketball games, thats great. But that burning sensation you feel inside of you is knowing how you won those games. The way it makes you feel to know you would do anything for a win, including taking out an opponent.
  7. Yea, the District is at Volunteer this year, and everyone knows what that means. The beat down will be on. For the life of me I cannot understand why the parents of the players in that program put up with their coach. The things he is telling his players to do. I know that alot of parents disagree with it. I know alot of the players don't like to play dirty. But he insists that they play that way. You would think that someone somewhere either in the program itself or in the media would have the stones to say enough is enough. Unfortunatly its probably going to take someone getting seriously hurt and filing some lawsuits to get the problem taken care of. It would be ashame for it to get to that point, but in this day and age it will happen eventually if something isn't done. And by that time its to late and everyone loses.
  8. Thats an excellent question. I would like to hear more about the rest of the conference as well. What I was saying is that most of the posts you will see here will not be breaking down a team. They will be someone tooting their own horn. However there are a few posters that add some insight to their respective teams. As far as how long will it be till teams start playing to their full potential, well, that depends on the team. Some teams seem to play better at the first of the year and some play better the second half of the season. Last year is a perfect example of that. Personally I think its the month of January that tells alot about a team. Thats when everyone will have all their players into "basketball shape" and will be setting themselves up for the district tournament. Also, I don't think you need any experience playing against Volunteer to know the way they play. Do you need to play against Science Hill to know that they are going to pressure the daylights out of you? That has been their style of play since George Pitts was coach there. Do you need to have played against Tennessee High to know they are going to play a tough zone defense and a slow and deliberate offense? They pretty much have had the same system since Dale Burns. Its the style of basketball that these coaches teach their players. Same for Volunteer, its the style their coach teaches his players. Play hard every second of the game, Hold when you get beat, undercut the shooter when he's in the air, no easy layups- knock him to the floor. You won't find a team with more heart than the Falcons, but their methods leave alot to be desired.
  9. Uh, ok. Thanks for the reminder. And by the way, the season starts in 12 days for alot of teams. True that alot of players will still be playing football at the first of the season, I was kinda hinting at that with my post. Maybe you should read it again. Have anything else there genius? Oh, and are you seriously looking on this board for a sports report? If so you will be seriously disappointed.
  10. Thanks for the info. I hope he turns things around there. I thought maybe the girls coach would move over and take the boys. Best of luck this year.
  11. Thats what I was thinking. lol I think D-B and Science Hill are the favorites going into the season, but there are a couple of other pretty good teams as well. And we all know how Charlie Morgan teams start a season. And who is The Hill's go to guy this year now that Omar is gone? There will be some close games that they will need someone to get it done. If Tennessee High can start off better this year than last year then they should contend for the title. And if Volunteer is allowed to get away with trying to hurt opposing players again this year then they could very well contend. Still haven't heard who Crockett's new coach is.
  12. I have to agree that he has not played up to his potential the past few years. But in his defense he has been playing hurt. I don't think you will ever see him beating and banging inside, however his problems were discovered and I think the physical therapy he went through will help him alot. Still won't be the physical player inside that everyone would like to see, but I think now that he's healthy he will suprise alot of people this year.
  13. There seems to be little black helicopters flying around bristol. /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  14. FRIDAY NIGHT SCORES South 48 Unicoi 7 Johnson Co. 27 Elizabethton 13 North 36 Rye Cove 12 Tn High 25 East 8 Week 2 record = 4-0
  15. South 35 Unicoi 7 Johnson Co. 21 Elizabethton 14 North 14 Rye Cove 10 Tn High 17 East 14
  16. Not sure that east can continue their success with the injuries they have. I have to give Tn High the edge here based on that. This has the potential in being a very close game coming down to the wire. However alot of people said that a few years back when both teams were undefeated going into the last game of the season. We all remember what the score of that game was.
  17. We are talking about East Tennessee here. Every town has its necks.
  18. Have to go with WB here in a low scoring game. Good luck to both teams!!!
  19. Congrats to the Cyclones on their win. But expect Science Hill to be playing a little more "inspired" football this next week. I think coach Smith gets a pass for losing to South, but if Science Hill doesn't win and win big here then I think the Toppers' "fire the coach" bandwagon will be brough out of the barn.
  20. Thats a great answer!!! My appologies, I was baiting a little bit. It should be a great game, but I have to give you guys the edge with the group of seniors you have. Best of luck!!
  21. LOL. What does it say about your program that you are complaining about Sullivan East running the score up on you a couple of years ago. How sad. What goes around eventually comes around and this year should be the year for the Falcons to light up a few teams. You have a good looking team this year, don't take the focus off that. Did coach Rider bring in the basketball coach to teach tackling?
  22. It gets to this point when parents undermine the coach's authority. SOME parents think they run the team and they know more than the coach. They fill their kids head full of crap and it starts driving a wedge between the coach, the team and the players involved. Some parents are "offended" when their son or daughter gets yelled at by a coach. They take it personal as if the coach has something against them or their kid. We live in a society in which to many people believe that the only way to motivate is with positive motivation. While that may work sometimes, there are times nothing motivates like a good @&& ripping.
  23. The trouble at Hoover right now could very well cost him his job. Especially if Paul Finebaum works his magic. However with college football season about to get underway, all eyes in the media will be focusing on Tommy Tuberville and Nick Saban. Hoover and Rush Propst is hoping that this will allow them to handle things quietly. I have to disagree on the last part of your statement though. If he does get fired at Hoover he will be coaching somewhere by next season. Probably another high school in another state.
  24. WOW!!!!! Guess I better change my NET top 5. Cause these scrimmages mean so much. LOL!! Its good to see people are getting excited about Cyclone Football again.
