Congratulations to Greenback!!! This is an example of what hard work and dedication will do for someone. What is the deal with Farragut, Maryville & Bearden? Those schools are large enough and have the financial resources to compete with any team in Tennessee but I never see them doing much of anything. Yes they have a few good individuals but their teams are on the bottom and they don't seem to be getting beter. Are their schools adminstration not supporting them or is it coaching and offseason training that they are lacking?
-
I have heard that he may be getting some extra work in the MBA practice room. Don't forget that Frank Simpson coached Will Bartharlomew to a state championship and little Bartharlomew (2008 that has said he will play football for Tennessee) is now the 215 for MBA. That could make for a good combination for Courtney.

Allow me to ask a few questons: If Darius would have wrestled @ 171# Would he not have been the number 1 seed because he defeated Bateman early in the season? What would the CBHS wrestler have been seeded @ 189 & would he have had a great opportunity to be a top 4 placer? If Darius moves to 189# Would he be the number 1 seed? What was the CBHS wrestler seeded @ 171 and does he have a great opportunity to place in the top 4? Which CBHS individual got bumped out of the starting lineup @ 189# and is it fair to wrestle the whole season as a starter and get bumped during the last week of the season? How does it make CBHS a better team and if it does why have they not been using this lineup the entire season? I have not seen Bateman wrestle since the state tournament last season but I can see why people may not want to wrestle him when all the money is on the table. The kid showed last season that he can win when the bright lights are turned on and the crowd is going nuts.

Sorry to upset you so much that you would feel the need to throw insults at me (twit) on a message board. I guess that I could continue the circle by calling you names and trying to insult you but all that would do is pull me down to your level and everyone knows that you would win on experience. Like I have said many times before I am a Middle Tennessee public school graduate that has retired (do not own a home in Tennessee) to South Florida where I fish one day and play golf on the next day and try to complete the "honey do list" for my wife. I do know some people that graduated from Father Ryan (many years ago) but I can't say that I have a close relationship with anyone at Father Ryan now. If you thumped the Irish as badly as you claim during the last few meetings then what is the big deal? When is the last time that the two teams wrestled in a dual or in the same tournament? Was it before the split because I didn't know that Bradley wrestled Tennessee private schools? Like I have said before the Bradley program and the Brandon, FL team coached by Russ Cozart are very much the same.
-
Bradley can wrestle teams (both public & private) from out of state and it is a win win ++++ for them. If they take a loss it was not to a team from Tennessee but if they win against a ranked team they can claim that they are trying to wrestle the best competition in the country. This is an old topic and anyone that knows anything about high school wrestling knows that Bradley is like the Brandon, FL teams coached by Russ Cozart.

Then why did the G-Man not just remove him of his AD duties and keep him on as a football coach. Go spread that fertilizer on another board because I am starting to smell the odor. Do you use chicken, horse, cow, or donkey manure?
-
No, he wouldn't call and ask Jeff for tickets but he would have one of his "YES MEN" do the calling for him.

Hillwood should become a grade 7-12 academic magnet school like Hume Fogg or MLK. If they did that the school would be filled with students from the same demographics as the neighborhood and get much more community support. You know that it is a bad situation when people that graduated from Hillwood in the 70" (Hillwoods best years) and live in the neighborhood with their families but send their own children to MBA, Father Ryan, Ensworth, Harpeth Hall, etc...

I don't have a clue as to how you could get the exact financial figures for the state duals. My guess is they would have to make them avaliable to any resident of Tennessee. The problem is they may hide the state duals in a bracket that says "state championships" and you would have no way to distinguish one championship form another. Another poster stated that they may budget a profit of X dollars for each championship and if they fall short of that X figure they claim a loss of revenue when in truth they have made a net profit. Who knows what they are doing as it has been my opinion for several years that the TSSAA is nothing more than a big government agency. We may have reached a time and place in Tennessee that the TSSAA should be operated by a group of professionals from each region that volunteer their services to help the youth of this state. You could have a small paid staff @ the TSSAA offices and allow each region to have a group of professional people (non educators & politicans) that make most of the decisions in that region within the guidlines of the TSSAA rules. Something tells me that in Middle Tennessee a person like Tommy Frist (HCA) or Monroe Carroll (Central Parking) would know a little more about how to handle money, run an organizaton and making decisions than the Board of Control we now have.

ELA, JMO, but this is a "BAD" job and you don't want it. You should look into the Indy. or Fairview job. Indy. is a new school in Williamson County and their coach Scott Smith took the job @ Science Hill.
-
JMO, but Mark Simpson may be a little behind due to the fact he was not allowed to wrestle varsity or practice with the varsity until his middle school season was over.

You can bet the farm that if wrestling is not paying it's own way the TSSAA will make some changes and cutting the number of teams is one option. Now that we have D1, D2 & D1 A-AA it's no wonder that the TSSAA is loosing money on the state duals. While I don't have the exact financial figures I would be willing to guess that the TSSAA does not make money on the individual tournament like they did before the D1 & D2 split. When everyone was together the TSSAA changed the championship finals starting time from 7:00pm to 4:00pm so they didn't have to pay for an extra night of hotel rooms. While the crowd was not has large in the afternoon the net profit was greater. If the TSSAA wants to make money on the state duals they could do the following: Place D1 & D2 back together and have a small school and large school tournament with 4 schools wrestling in the small school tournament and 8 schools wrestling in the large school tournament. By doing this you would reduce the number of teams from 28 to 12. That would be more than a 50% reduction in expenses plus you could wrestle the whole tournament in one day.

It was reported by someone on this message board that the crowd for the Montgomery Bell Academy vs Father Ryan dual had over 1900 fans and over 500 watching the match on www.schoolsportsradio.com

Is there any chance that Notre Dame and Father Ryan will schedule the Sunday afternoon match in 2007-2008 that they wrestled for so many years? I have been told that Simpson has asked Notre Dame several times the last few years to do this but for some reason Notre Dame could not find a date. When this match was wrestled @ 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon in Nashville it was hard to find a seat in the old Father Ryan gym.

Look, I am going to tell you one more time so you understand: I am a former D1 coach, I was a recruited athlete, my wife was a recruited athlete and I have one son that was a recruited athlete so I understand the business. It is the parents responsibility to tell their child that they are to keep their mouth closed and not say a single word until they are sure where they want to go. If the coach pulls the offer there will be other offers. You select a school that you would want to attend even if athletics don't work out for you. It's time that people in this world become "square jawed men" and take a stand for what is right and what is wrong. These young boy's need to start acting like men and understand that when they tell someone something, that the other person is depending on them to follow through and do what they said they would do even if it hurts. The reason so many kids transfer is because they have been spoiled by their parents and allowed to do what they want, when they want. Most kids today just have too much baby in them for me but most have never been the son of a coal miner. Yes, I have made mistakes many times and I am still making them. I have also felt pain and financial loss because I followed up and did what I said that I would do. It's not about changing your mind it's about being accountable for your actions and keeping your word. It's about being a man.

Does track practice not begin on Feb. 15?????????
-
Spring practice in early January makes alot of sense. The only athletes that you are not going to have are wrestlers & basketball players. Most wrestlers play on the defensive side of the ball and they are tough kids (state place winners are probably the most hard noised kids in the school) or they wouldn't be wrestling. You tell them what you want them to do and get out of their way. Basketball players tend to play the receiver positions or maybe a DB and they already have good hands and probably don't need Spring practice especially if your team does alot of passing league work in the Summer. QB's & RB's tend to play baseball and run track so you would have them during the Spring.

Tullahoma could have the same type of program that Maryville has if the community made the decision that winning state championships was a priority. I am not sure what the problem is with Lawrence County but they have had good teams in the past. It would take alot of work but they could be very strong. What is the deal with Columbia Central? They have a great feeder program but few if any of those kids do anything in high school.

Stan, If the TSSAA wins the court battle I will agree that all private schools will be forced into one division and will probably form their own organization. However, if BA wins this ongoing legal battle what do you feel will happen? How will the legal bills be paid and do you feel that some type of compromise will take place between the TSSAA and BA? Is there any way that the TSSAA can pay their own legal fees as they must be well over a million dollars by now and most general liability insurance will not cover legal fees that excesive?
-
Just because a coach is not truthful has nothing to do with me or my family not being truthful. You or no one else can justify not being truthful, no matter how hard you try. Do you really want one of your kids playing for a coach that was not a standup type of man like the coach that you spoke about? We have all made mistakes over the course of our life but you can bet your sweet cheeks that if I tell you something you can take it to the bank and it will not bounce.
-
Why would a players parents allow their child to decommit to any school. I told my kids if you give the coach your word and commit you must follow through and attend that school. I even took it one step forward and told them if they quit playing football or decided to transfer the school tuition would have to be paid for by them. Just because you have not signed the NLI does not mean that your word should not be binding.

Hey Parent, You are the one that needs to let it go! It's not choking if the official does not call it. Look @ what Dave Schultz did on the international stage with his front headlock and what Simmons from Michigan State is doing now. It sounds like good coaching to me.

No way & that isn't even a good joke. While coach Probst is a good coach and has a great staff we all know that the bright lights of TWO A DAYS would be on Coach Probst and not the G-Man.
