  1. Briarcrest won by ten, 64-54. Liberty made 13 three-pointers. Out of their 32 second-half points, 30 of them came from behind the arc. Briarcrest dominated the inside. Leslie McDonald had 22 points, including two highlight dunks, and 12 rebounds. Johnny Williams had 20 points. Gregg Wooten played his usual game and finished with about ten. Freshman wing DeMarc Richardson finished with eight rebounds and six assists.
  2. Leslie scored six points in the final thirty seconds. ECS guard Jonathan Milewski went to the free throw line up two. He made the first one and missed the second, which is strange cuz he is usually automatic from the line. Leslie came down and got fouled on a three point attempt. He made all three. Then on defense, the refs called a foul sending ECS forward Dupree Lytle to the line. Both free throws put them up two. Then with about ten seconds left, Gregg Wooten went off a double screen at the top of the key, turned and passed to McDonald, McDonald pulled up with two guys covering him completely and sank the three.
  3. Seriously? Briarcrest Christian has the hardest schedule in the state, and it's not even close. Name any other team who has played the type of competition the Saints have played. White Station (preseason top 25 nationally) Harding (defending state champions) Chicago Homewood Flossmoor (IL) (in Marshall County, Kentucky) Chicago Simeon (IL) (preseason top 25 nationally; in Marion, Illinois) and then at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida ... Brooklyn Lincoln (NY) (preseason top 10; Lance Stephenson) Duncanville (TX) (five D1 players; PRESEASON NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY) Dunbar (FL) and then at the Arby's Classic in Bristol, Tennessee ... Science Hill Benedictine (OH) (top 10 team in Ohio; Ohio St. signee) Boyd Anderson (FL) (30-2 last season; rolled through Arby's Classic) Bearden (number two in Tennessee class AAA) No other team even comes close to that schedule!
  4. Briarcrest is 23-7. They were not forced to forfeit any games, so they are not 18-12.
  5. I'm not exactly sure. Wave might know the reason, but I believe it was because after he played in a rec game, he sat out the next few games immediately. While the Briarcrest player played in a rec game then participated in the next few games, which made him ineligible. The Briarcrest player only plays about 2 or 3 minutes a game on varsity tho.
  6. Briarcrest turned themselves in for one thing. Not that it completely makes up for it, but that shows that they weren't going to hide it from anyone. CBHS had a player, actually a starter, play rec ball as well.
  7. Leslie McDonald (Briarcrest) for DII. Elliot Williams (St. George's) has missed most of the regional schedule, so I believe McDonald deserves it above everyone else. He was also the MVP of the Arby's Classic.
  8. Briarcrest defeated Archbishop Carroll, 71-61. Leslie McDonald was named MVP after posting 26 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals. Gregg Wooten, Elgin Lee, and Johnny Williams made the all-tournament team.
  9. Leslie McDonald is averaging 27 ppg through three games.
  10. It's just a team decision on why Lee isn't playing. He made a mistake and is sitting out for it. He will be back soon.
  11. Leslie McDonald had 34 points and 10 rebounds. Johnny Williams made a lay-up with about 4 seconds left to win the game.
  12. Briarcrest was without starters Leslie McDonald, Elgin Lee, and Jake McCrary. Also seniors Spencer Green, Robbie Zettler, and Chris McDaniel were not with the team. Johnny Williams was #55. He was only eligible for the final four games last season, but should be a huge part of the team's success this season.
  13. Briarcrest's record is 28-7. The scores for 3 wins in the Ft. Walton Playground Area Shootout and a win against St. Benedict in the second round of the region tournament aren't on this site's schedule.
  14. St. George's vs. Brentwood should be an amazing game. Laurence Bowers had a pretty good regional tournament. Elliot Williams had 36 against CBHS. They finished 3rd in the tournament, beating #1 seed ECS in the consolation game. Briarcrest could be a big sleeper in the tournament. They have 5 legitimate D-1 players on the team. Sophomore Leslie McDonald (6'4" 190) is the #11 player in the nation. He is as good as advertised, but he is a much better all-around player than people give him credit for. He can shoot from the outside. He is almost unstoppable in the lane. He wows you with athletic plays and monster jams. He should go to an elite college. Sophomore PG Gregg Wooten (6'2" 205) is inconsistent, but if he can get into the lane and finish, he is a solid player. He should go to a high-profile school. He is very physical and a great defender. Junior guard Elgin Lee (6'3" 170) is unstoppable offensively. He is more of a street-type player than anyone on the team. He always shoots running jumpers and has a nice array of fancy passing. His athleticism is very underrated. His play this season has been overlooked because of McDonald's success, but very quietly, he averages about 16/17 a game. He can light up the scoreboard, and he is probably the most-willing to shoot the ball in pressure situations. Junior Jake McCrary (6'1" 190) probably won't play college ball, but he could at a smaller school. He is the best defender on the team and is probably the most physical player on the team. He can get into the lane and hit from the outside. Sophomore center Johnny Williams (6'6" 230), a transfer who has played in only 3 games, has shown flashes of how good he can be. He had 11 points, 7 boards, and 3 blocks against Laurence Bowers in the semi-finals against St. George's. Briarcrest probably won't be expected to win the whole thing this year. I don't know much about Baylor so I'm not sure what kind of game that will be. I see their record is 13-13, but they must be better than that since they are in state. ECS finished 12-14 and they were the #1 seed before the tournament. Here are my predictions.. Briarcrest def. Baylor Brentwood def. St. George's MUS def. PJP2 Ensworth def. McCallie Brentwood def. Briarcrest Ensworth def. MUS Brentwood def. Ensworth
  15. briarcrest beat st georges tonite 56-51. leslie mcdonald had 10 points and maybe 10 rebounds. junior elgin lee had 15 points, most of them in the 4th quarter. sophomore transfer johnny williams, playing in his second game, scored 11 points and had about 7 boards and a couple blocks. laurence bowers had a wide open dunk, but williams just came down the lane and pinned it against the backboard. gregg wooten and jake mccrary played amazing defense on elliot williams. elliot had 17 i think, most were free throws or three pointers with two hands in his face. he never had an open look. mus completely destroyed ecs. with a minute left, the score was about 70-35. i dunno what the final ended up being. consolation game... ecs vs. st georges championship game... briarcrest vs. mus
  16. leslie is def. the best sophomore in the state. he's already ranked no. 11 in the nation. marlon brown is a very good player, but he's not near as good as leslie. marlon scores 20 a game bcuz there isnt anyone on his team that can score. leslie has great scorers around him like another top sophomore gregg wooten and junior elgin lee (17 ppg)
  17. Division 2 - Leslie McDonald (Briarcrest Christian)
  18. 40-33 Gregg Wooten couldnt play in the first quarter and Elgin Lee couldn't play the in the first half.
  19. great post, you know exactly how coach harrington is, he hasnt held any of his players back at all, if you look at last seasons team when gregg wooten and leslie mcdonald were freshman and elgin lee was a sophomore, they have improved so much. mcdonald has become such a better overall player, like his midrange game, and elgin lee has improved more than anyone on the team, before he was a pure one on one player who took crazy shots, now he uses his one on one moves to get by defenders and draw other defenders his way and passes the ball. tonite against ecs, he had 3 sportscenter quality no look passes. leslie mcdonald... 2005-06 ppg.. 11 2006-07 ppg.. 22 gregg wooten... 2005-06 ppg.. 5 2006-07 ppg.. 11 elgin lee... 2005-06 ppg.. 14 2006-07 ppg... 19 they play the system pretty well....
  20. briarcrest is 22-4 now after beating ecs tonite.. there is no way you can say that coach harrington's style holds these players back. he has taken advantage of all the coach's advice he has been given by recruiters. he runs the same offense that the memphis tigers, denver nuggets, and pepperdine run. its an up and down offense with lots of dribble penetration by the athletes, and it leaves shooters wide open. its a great offense. i know all this cuz im on the team, im in practice everyday, i see what goes on behind the scenes. no parents of the other kids pay for playing time. the players that dont see alot of time on the court arent jealous of them at all. we all know what we get to see everyday and that is 3, now 4 players, that are gonna play college ball. leslie mcdonald has the potential to become an all american someday. there is no seperation on the team at all.
  21. leslie mcdonald avgs. 22 ppg, 7 rpg, 4 apg, 2 bpg, shoots over 60% from the floor, 45% from behind the arc. he is an unreal athlete. has a 3.5 gpa. has had 5 games this year of over 30 points, including 37 off the bench (sick) against madison ridgeland academy. anyone ever seen him play?
  22. since i attend briarcrest and am very close to the basketball program, im just gonna say that everything yall have said is wrong. the reason gregg wooten and leslie mcdonald are there is bcuz wooten's brother played for coach harrington when he was at bartlett. mcdonald and wooten are very good friends and aau teammates so he came along with him. elgin lee was at briarcrest before wooten and mcdonald decided to attend. johnny williams plays aau with wooten and mcdonald and why not play with the same guys you've been playing with your whole life? as for not coaching these kids, if you knew anything about the players at briarcrest, you would know that these kids are improving more and more each day. mcdonald has become so much more physical and his mid range game has become incredible for a guard. he isnt ranked #11 in the nation for nothing. he didnt call gregg wooten one of the best defensive players he has ever coached in over 20 years for nothing. elgin lee hasnt just learned all by himself how to become a team player and use his penetration to find open shooters. it may not be the best coaching staff in the city, especially when terry tippet is coaching rite down the street, but he sure has beat those teams lately. just this season, the saints have beaten cbhs, mus, harding, hernando, rome ga (have the #18 junior in the nation, 6'11" tony woods, while briarcrest has no one on the roster about 6'5, scored only 2 points) have you ever seen these kids play? the only reason sba has beaten briarcrest lately is bcuz sba completely stalls with the ball and win on backdoors and precise fundamentals, if you knew anything about division 2 basketball in memphis, you would know that any team could win on any given day, ecs has beaten st georges, briarcrest has beaten cbhs and mus just let me know how bad the coaching is at briarcrest when they make it to the state tournament
