  1. That should keep him there for another 10 years or so. Sounds like Waynesboro football is in good hands for a while.
  2. Coach Rice is 45/46 now. One more might be possible, 3 or 4?, he might not have the heart for that many more. Either way you guys better be hurrying.
  3. Is everyone healthy for the game? Was there a good week of practice?
  4. Over the years I've always admired Collinwood in the way that they either hid or just plain didn't have this type of infighting. I haven't attended a Collinwood football game since 1989 so I can't comment on who is right or who is wrong, but I do know that Michael Statom is the best thing to happen to Collinwood football EVER, or at least since whoever made the final decision to actually have a team. He is a first-class man with the highest of character. I would place my trust in him to do what is best and right. You guys need to come together, and take Mt. Pleasant down one more peg.
  5. IF Columbia Academy had ever won in Collinwood it wouldn't have been during the early 80's. The CA that exists today began playing in 1980 and didn't win a game until 82. By then, Collinwood was a threat to win any game it played. C'wood's first over .500 season was 83(although they still lost to Wayne Co.) and I believe CA had a winning record that year as well or very close(they did beat Wayne Co.). This very well may have been CA's first win in Collinwood.
  6. Sounds like a pretty complete game by the Cats. A very balanced attack with a new weapon coming to the surface in the running back Dylan Warren. Congrats to the boys and the coaches. A well played and well coached game all around.
  7. That same problem seems to have haunted me much of my life.
  8. Can anyone supply some details of the game?
  9. No one answered my question. Do you Wayne Countians not read The Wayne County News anymore?
  10. This has nothing to do with the game, but does the Rotary Club, Jaycees, or whoever, still give a Player of the Week award for the Waynesboro and Collinwood games? That was a big deal back in the day. It was always a chance for someone to get his picture in the newspaper.
  11. Excellent. Thanks for the quick response.
  12. There were 4 pages of messages talking about the game before it happened, but only 1 message after the game. Can someone who was there give a little recap of the game? I'm an old Wildcat, who lives far away. CoachT has become my link home.
  13. The personal things I will not stoop to respond to. I'll just use my memory as my research. When I was a freshman in high school in 1980 the 4 primary powers, in what was then District 10, were, in alphabetical order, Mt. Pleasant, Perry County, Summertown, and Wayne County. Over the course of the past 28 years, it would be safe to say that those 4 schools year in and year out remain the powers of the district. I would say that given the talent level, tradition, community support, and administrative support that anyone capable of rolling balls onto the court and turning in a line-up could consistently win games at those schools. Coach McBee was winning games and winning them big long before Les Trotter knew where Summertown was. And David Lee followed the legendary Coach Rhodes at Perry County. Of course Coach Johnson was going to state tournaments and winning coach of the year plaques long before Derek Boyd got to Mt. Pleasant. And Coach Coggins was winning 20-25 games EVERY SEASON at Wayne County while Ryan Franks was still in elementary school. Now, I'm not knocking these coaches. They are all fine men and a credit to their communities and are great coaches. But bottom line, they are all simply carrying on a tradition, quite well i might say. The coach at Collinwood is not carrying on 28 years of tradition. He is setting his own. And his name is Brian Crews(I won't say you do some research). He is a credit to his town, his family, his school, his district, and his state. Thank you very much.
  14. My wife had the privilege of working with Kevin while he was still a college student. Kevin, if you are reading this Mighty Mite sends her regards. Our prayers go out to you and yours. Red Bank wrestling, Chattanooga area wrestling, and Tennessee wrestling is losing a first class man who leaves behind huge shoes to fill. The impact this man has made on young people in this area will last forever. We can only hope that our grandchildren will have coaches the caliber of Kevin Emily.
  15. Collinwood has to be the odds-on favorite. They have the best coach in the district and he's only in his second season. They return a very talented group and last season's strong freshmen class are now a year older and more mature. This team gave Culleoka all it wanted and then some in Region tourney.
  16. I do not know Mr. Reeves. I'm sure he is a fine man. But before everyone gets terribly excited about having a "wrestling man" in office, remember that Ronnie Carter himself was first a Wrestling Coach. So now we have 2 "wrestling men" in the big house? My point is, I would not expect a lot of things to change.
  17. ctrojan, you really opened yourself up for what's about to come. I actually thought for a minute that we were in the midst of Miss Cleo. I've heard of covering all bases but this one takes the cake. Should be a good game.
  18. I was in meetings until 1 today and knew nothing of the results of the game until this afternoon. Does anyone know if the game on Friday will be broadcasted on Lash Radio?
  19. You must be from my era. That was one of ours. LOL. Class of '84.
  20. Will the state tourney games be broadcast on the internet?
  21. In my day we wore camoflauge and did army chants in the WCHS student section!!! What memories!!! C-A-T-S Cats, Cats, Cats!!!! Wish I could make to the 'Boro on Saturday. Jobs and family have me too many miles away now. Good Luck Lady Cats.
  22. Congratulations to the team and to Coach Crews on a fine season. I'm sorry it's ending sooner than we would like. It saddened me last night to hear the results. But keep your heads up, no shame at all in what you've accomplished this season. And with Coach Crews at the helm the future definitely looks bright.
  23. I have not been able to follow the district goings on this season, but I challenge anyone to show me a better coaching job than the one turned in by Collinwood's First Year Coach. Congratulations Coach, East Tennessee is pulling for you, even if it's Long Distance.
  24. I'm glad to have been able to entertain you two. These are just my picks. Sometimes a person has to go against the grain a bit, and somewhere there is logic behind them. Thanks for the critique.
