    9-A

MTCS and Fayetteville tied at the half.
  2. Or if the student athlete's parent becomes an employee of the new school.
  3. Why should announcers not be a part of home court advantage? It doesn't have to be "all about the announcer" to be part if the home court advantage. Some announcers make it fun. Some make it unbearable. Some make it as interesting as watching paint dry. The student sections and band analogies absolutely apply. They aren't on the floor. They add to the experience. So does/can a good PA announcer. But, I respect your opinion. Just expressing mine.
  4. This is really interesting. Not sure what the rule is, but I hope the TSSAA doesn't take all the fun out of games because a few announcers are over the top. I announced games for 8 years but stopped last year. I was absolutely a homer, but I was also respectful to other teams. I always found out how to pronounce all visiting players names, never, ever talked during free throws, didn't do play-by-play, etc. BUT, I definitely put more emphasis on my team's scoring. I also played music for our school and I played it loud. I checked with my coaches to make sure it wasn't too loud, but it was loud. I think that is home court advantage and expected. If our home student section is a lot bigger than the visitors, are they going to tell them not to cheer so loud? What about the schools with pep bands? Don't let all of your tubas play - it's too loud. Crazy. Two things: I routinely had visiting fans come up and make requests for music because I played a lot of 80s funk and rock. It was fun. One time a lady came up and asked why didn't I announce her team's scores as enthusiastically as my team's? I laughed and said "because YOUR team isn't MY team." She laughed and walked off. Typical, TSSAA. If there is a problem, address it with those creating the problem. Don't penalize everyone. They are going to ruin fun high school game atmospheres about the same way they've just about ruined everything else. Too bad.
  5. 9A sweep may not be probable, but definitely possible. Since Forrest and Fayetteville are hosting first round, you have to like their chances. McEwen will be playing one of those two so it won't be a gimme. Even though Community and MTCS are on the road, if they play the way they did last night! they can beat just about anybody. They will be playing either East Robertson or Nashville Christian. The problem is, with all four 9A teams still playing, they have talent and they can look really, really good and they can also look pretty bad. Good luck to 9A next weekend!
  6. MTCS 63 - Moore County 35 Fayetteville 57 - Forrest 43 Community 38 - Cascade 75 (non-district) With the win, MTCS clinches first in district and #1 seed in tournament.
  7. Derrick Spears - MTCS Ben Brown - MTCS Nick Hopkins - Fayetteville
  8. Can't believe I forgot Hollander. He's legit. Definitely top 10.
  9. Gotta add Derrick Spears, Middle Tennessee Christian School. Mr. Basketball finalist for Single A last year.
  10. Thomas Booker - East Lit. Jordan Bone - Ensworth Definitely Kenny Cooper - FRA and Braxton Blackwell, too. No doubt. Parker Suedekom from BA is a sleeper. Really good player. John Matt Merritt -Lipscomb. Another sleeper.
  11. Jeremiah Oatsvall - BA Jacoby Stevens - Ensworth Grayson Murphy - Independence Amani Starling - Ensworth Jalon Cambridge - JPII These would be my top 5 in no particular order. Several more in the next tier, probably 15 or so bunched up.
  12. 2 questions: (1) is Coleman Spann coming back to CPA? I've heard conflicting rumors. Regardless of personal feelings/rivalries hope everything works out for him. (2) Heard now Braxton Bonds is leaving. Any truth to that rumor?
  13. Just a quick reply before diving into the day... It's been one game. Give the Mustanges time. They are not state contenders this year (in my opinion) but they should improve over last year. The coach is still the coach. The system is still the system. And the boys will still end up getting better all season. Those who watch the Mustangs from Southwest Nashville Peewee Football days on up have known for awhile that there would be a two or three year tough stretch. Just not enough arrows in the quiver. But, there is some good young talent coming up. If you are a Mustang fan, bright days are ahead.
  14. Team 147 decided to test the AAU waters this year. The "AAU Nationals in Memphis" thread in this forum has a rundown of the middle TN teams at AAU nationals, including 147. The "Congrats to 147" thread has the team lowdown. They finished 47-8 for the season and won 9 of the 12 tourneys they entered including the Tournament of the Americas in Atlanta and three 8th grade tourneys.
  15. Congratulations to Team 147-Athletes 4 Orphans in finishing in the final 12 teams in the Div. I 2012 AAU 7th Grade National Championships this past week in Memphis. This was 147's first trip to AAU nationals after finishing first and second the last 2 years at YBOA nationals. 147 had a record of 5-3 at nationals, won their pool and in doing so had wins over the Michigan (Brothers Keepers) and N.C. (Team Felton) state champions. Team Felton ended up finishing 6th overall. 2 of 147's losses came to overall 4th place Team Takeover from D.C. and overall 9th place Indy Hoosiers (2 time defending champ and overall #1 seed coming into the tournament). As I understand the way AAU does the bracketing, 147 will be credited with finishing tied for 15th. Great job! It was a great experience for the team, coaches and families. Memphis did a great job hosting and 147 got to play and see some incredibly talented players and teams. 147 will be able to build off of this great experience. Congratulations 147/A4O!!
  16. Congratulations to Team CBC (formerly Cali Style) on winning the 2012 AAU 7th Grade National Championship. CBC beat West Coast Select 55-47 in the championship game. After dropping a heartbreaker last night to CBC, the Memphis War Eagles took 3rd place by beating Team Takeover from D.C. by 2. The Swilling Storm (Louisiana), Team Felton (N.C.), NOLA Primetime Select and Abbyssinian/Team ABBO round out 5th-8th. In the 9th-16th bracket, Team 147-A4O dropped a tough one in the semi-finals to 2 time defending champ Indy Hoosiers. The Hoosiers were simply too big, too fast, too strong and too talented. Had it not been for their most talented player loosing his cool in a bracket game, the Hoosiers would have possibly been playing for another title. As it was, they stormed through the consolation bracket to finish in 9th place. 147 can take great satisfaction in reaching the Sweet 16 and making it to the final 12 teams in their first trip to AAU Nationals. Congratulations also go out to The Music City Player for finishing 3rd in the Classic Division. Overall, great showing by the Tennessee teams and, specifically, the middle TN teams. Even though the nationals were held in Memphis, it's clear that the mid-state, and Nashville in particular, has some great hoops! Congrats to all!
  17. The Sweet 16 produced some great competition. Team 147-A4O dropped a tough one to Team Takeover, the #5 team in the country from D.C. Takeover was just too big, fast and athletic for 147. The 147 boys fought hard, but in the end Team Takeover walked away with the win. However, there is no quit in 147 and they took on Team Final, from Boston, Saturday morning in the 9th-12th place bracket. After being down by 17 in the first half, 147 scratched and clawed their way back to win a tight one. Now 147 faces possibly their toughest game ever as they play the 2 time defending national champ and #1 ranked Indy Hoosiers. If they can somehow win, they will finish in the top 10 in the country. Either way, they will finish no worse than 12th. Team Takeover beat a strong NOLA Primetime Select team (last year's runner up) to make the Final 4. Also in the Final 4 are CBC (formerly Cali Style), West Coast Select, and the Memphis War Eagles. Congrats to the War Eagles for making the Final 4. Should be great competition. Team Penny is still alive in the 9-16 bracket along with 147. The Music City Players are in the final 8 of the Classic Bracket. Looking back on it, the TN State AAU tournament was some great competition among some really tough teams. 147 and both War Eagle teams were in the same pool! Team Nashville finally ran out of gas in Div. II. They made the Championship bracket, lost their first game there, but fought back to win a couple more games and finish in the middle of the 48 team group. Congrats to Team Nashville on a great run! Good luck to 147-A4O and the Music City Players!
  18. Day four is in the books and 147 -A4O has made it to the Sweet 16. In game 1 on Thursday, 147 beat World Wide by a surprising 18. In the nightcap, 147 got some revenge for one of their state tourney losses by beating the Memphis Wareagles - Bray 39-33. So, 147 plays the #5 team in the country today in the Sweet16. Team Takeover is a great club out of D.C. Other teams still alive in the Div. I Sweet 16 are the Memphis War Eagles and Team Penny. The Music City Players have made it to the final 8 of the "Classic" (I.e. consolation) bracet. In Div. II, Team Nashviile lost a tough game in the first round of the Championship bracket, but they are still playing in the losers brackets. Good luck today to 147-A4O and the Middle TN teams!
  19. Three days are in the books and there has been some great competition. 96 of the best teams in the country have been pared down to a 48 team championship bracket. In Div. I Team 147-A4O finished first in their pool after starting as the 3rd seed in the pool. 147 beat the Michigan state champ on Monday and then dropped a heartbreaker to the Broward Sharks, the pool #1 and Florida state champion. Leading by 3 with 16 seconds to go, the refs called an intentional foul on a 147 player. This led to the Sharks tying the game at the buzzer. 147 lost in OT. On Wednesday 147 played Team Felton, the N.C. state champs and, to that point, the only undefeated team in the pool. After falling behind by early, 147 fought back only to be down by 5 with 2:00 to go in the game. 147 staged a furious defensive stand and won by 2. So, 147 is the pool champ! 147 plays today against Team World Wide out of Atlanta (the team 147 beat two years ago in the YBOA National Championship game). The Music City Players faced some great competition and ended up 1-2 in their pool. They will be playing in the "Classic" bracket from here on out. TN teams in the Championship bracket: 147, Memphis War Eagles, Memphis War Eagles - B and Team Penny. In Div. II, Team Nashville bounced back after loosing their first game to go 2-1 and finished second in their pool. So, they will be playing in the Champioship bracket of Div. II. Congratulations to Team Nashville! The Memphis Pharoahs and the MemphisnTigers also made it it the Div. II championship bracket. More good basketball to come....
  20. After day one of play the Div I teams from TN mostly all won their first game (5-1) and the Div. II teams, unfortunately, mostly all lost (3-5). In Div. I, both middle TN teams won. Team 147-A4O overcame some really sloppy play to beat Brothers Keepers, the Michigan state champion, 55-48. 147 got down 12-2 early but battled back for the win. The Music City Players also won their first game 68-57 over the St. Louis Wolves. The lone middle TN Div. II team, Team Nashville, dropped a tough game to their pool's #1 seed 61-70. Round 2 is already underway today. Good luck Mid Tenn teams!
