  1. Sounds a little like Coach Bray (cookeville) might have been working on some things such as ball control, controlling tempo, possibly other little things with boys who are competing for a little playing time. With supposedly 4 starters out, you tend to sometimes implement a game plan that suits what you need to see, and wasn't it a HOF game, if so, some(if not most) don't count those toward overall record... Just a thought!
  2. Cumberland co. has everything in place to become competitive. The biggest things right now that are limiting them from being competitive is 1. The Split of High schools ( could take up to 4-5 yrs before people get used to having two programs and that time will allow for them to get placed in appropriate classifications) and 2. School System:Yes the school system has problems competing with salaries of other 5A schools, lack of assistants, etc. And I really don't think most folks around here really know what Money can do for Education and Athletic programs. I realize Money is not a Quick fix, but when you can get funded to the likes of a Cookeville, or some of the Knoxville schools SMHS competes with, it makes a big difference over time.
  3. Schools have 6th - 8th grade teams. The county does have a league though, not affiliated with the schools ( formerly Jr Jets) now called Cumb Co Mountaineers, they have the Pee Wees and on up to maybe 12-13 yr olds. They play teams to the east and south ( Spring City, Pikeville, others)
  4. Cumberland Co. Elementary schools are grades K-8, so yes Jr. High teams play one another. Quite a long in-county schedule. Some schools do play out of county, those who can compete or want to get better. I know what some are going to say, when do you play out of county? Our county games are on Thursdays, and some rivalries are pretty intense. But there are a few weeks when some of the higher caliber teams could step out on a Tues or Sat and play an out of county team. Just many coaches aren't willing to.
  5. So much we don't know about the situation, but as a coach, if I am playing a "cupcake" team, then those are the games where I allow kids who may have less talent (#34), but have practiced all summer and all week, to have an opportunity to play. Why would I risk injury to my only "playmaker" (#32) in a game we are going to easily win. Like I said, just a thought but no one knows the whole situation other than Coach and player.
  6. Thanx, I believe Stone played Upperman at Tech Jamboree and lost 6-0 or 7-0... any how by a TD
  7. Slow down now, I like your excitement, but you are 1-0, as stated, and yet to even test the waters in your region. And tell me Where in the world did you get your 18 point underdog line at?? Hey we all like to guess scores and such, but your talkin like the game was on the board in Vegas. LOL Team is very well coached and they know how to motivate you local Plateau boys better than those cross-town... Again Slow down, your QB measuring up to WHO in What LEAGUE, your region??? You haven't even played a region game in your school's history... LOL Lastly, You have played no one yet, but possibly one of the weaker 5A schools in the state with No Tradition of even competing consistently. You sound like an excited Kid at WAL-Mart waitin on your toys to get out of lay-a-away. I like your team and your staff but again wait till you face some real opponents in real, meaningful games.. GOOD LUCK!!!
  8. Gat-Pittman has a really cool setting and good facilities for a smaller school.
  9. Have to agree with you on the "better staff" after the display I saw Friday night, along with all of last year. Part of being a coach is being able to identify your teams strengths and/or weaknesses, and try to build an offense/defense around that. Especially at a school which has struggled as much as CCHS. Running the ball east- west when you have a line outsizing the D-line by 30 lbs a man, doesnt make much sense. But then again the smaller SMHS line seem to control the line of scrimmage. I had watched CCHS in 2 scrimmages, where they were able to move the ball consistently. And going by the news I had heard out of SMHS, I predicted a CCHS win. The "better staff" of SMHS had their players better prepared and more MOTIVATED for this game. I wish both teams success throughout the rest of the season.
  10. CCHS JETS 28 SMHS 17 CCHS evens the score after dropping a good high school football game last year. The crowd for last years game was big and awesome. The kind of game that exemplifies what High School sports should be about: School spirit, sportsmanship, and overall good respect shown by both sides. I am sure this will grow into a great annual game that all of Cumberland Co. can be proud of.
  11. I would like it if someone who has knowledge of the history of Softball in Dist. 4AA to give some insight. Has this district been competitive in recent years past the district level in post-season? Is so, who has normally been the top teams out of the district? I am asking these questions to try to get a measure on where Stone stands in AA ball. They came from a solid AAA program at CCHS that was always competitive with the Red Banks and Soddys, and just a few years ago was State runner-up AAA. Also because STONE DOMINATED this district, by scoreboard stats: Stone Runs scored= 60 4AA opponents= 5 That is Domination!!! Who are normally AA top teams in State???
  12. Congrats to Stone!!! Their success this year has been acheived by: 1. Previous successfull years of playing at CCHS under (T-bone). 2. The strong youth leagues and travel teams in the county that have been developed for some years now. 3. Great pitching and Defense. I am a Cumberland Countian who is trying to do my best to root for both schools, as I would hope most would. I know SMHS has the better share of talent in Girls Bball and Softball, but I also know it will even out if not swing to CCHS side on talent in coming years looking at the talent at the feeder schools. I think it is hard for some to swallow the great success of SMHS this year on the girls side. But I would hope most would just give it time and I predict things will even out, which will make for some great competition in future years. SMHS fans please don't think all CCHS fans "reek of sour grapes," because they don't. It is just a BIG change for the county and will take some adjustment time for many.
  13. I agree, it will be close to a 20% increase next year, which would warrant a move up. They are at about 950 without a full Senior class. When it is all said and done ( 2-3 years), IMO both CCHS and SMHS will be pretty equal around the 1200 range... IMO for Cumberland County to consistently compete at the level Stone has achieved this year. It would take a 3rd High School. Cumberland's population is getting close to being comparable to that of the likes of Putnam and Bradley counties, both of which have three High schools.
  14. Yes CCHS was a good respected program, but when a school has never made a State appearance, that respect can only go so far. Being in the Upper Cumberland, even though in different classifications, Cumberland Co. in my opinion has always been overshadowed by C'range, York, LA, JC, Upperman, White Co. you know what I mean...Those who have State banners and State tradition in thier programs. Cumberland County is now in unchartered water now with Stone making it to the 'Boro. Enrollment at Stone as far as I know is around 950, that is without a full Senior class. So when TSSAA readjusts, I would think they will be clearly over the 997 mark, that puts one into AAA. They had better take full advantage of the AA years, esp. since they go to the east side of the Plateau. Cumberland Co. needs three High schools, comparable to Putnam, to be consistently contending at the level Stone has achieved this year. I apologize for this getting way off topic of the AA State Tournament...
  15. No one and first of all not me has or ever will question why the kids who are playing are at Stone are there, but it seems to me that some from Stone, like yourself, are so Quick to make the point you made about the Zoning issue, why is that? I made no mention about zoning, just that this team is made up of mostly the CCHS 05/06 squad. I think it is great they made it over the hump to State ( being in AA has helped that become a reality). But it is like a few from Stone are real quick to establish a seperation of sorts from their "old school" with all the up-front defense of the zoning.
  16. Not ignorance on your not knowing history of Stone, it just shows how little respect Cumberland County has garnered through the years in basketball, and deservedly so. I also am not trying to tell anyone that this Stone team is from "scratch" the truth is: it ismade up of about 80% of the CCHS girls team from the last two years. Both those years, CCHS advanced to Sub-state and no further. The point I was making is they are a very good team that has been on the cusp of going to the 'Boro, but now it has happened. They are making Cumberland County proud, but how will they respond to Murphy Center on first trip. I honestly can't tell you the last time a team from Cumberland County made it to the State Tourney, had to have been in the 60's if ever. And yes, it is the same Coach from CCHS guiding this Stone team also.
  17. This AA tourney has the makings to be a great one. I believe those who have been to Murphy Center before, have a slight advantage (i.e. Upperman from lower bracket, Livingston from upper) although the Northside team seems to be coming in with a head of steam. The Upperman- NS winner advances to face IMO "a wide-open" upper bracket advancee. Secondly, Stone is brand new ( first year open), not about 2 yrs old. They do have alot of talent, especially on the perimeter and the old saying is Defense and "Guard Play" takes you farthest in the post-season. They could get on a run and make some noise, but I am just waiting to see how they handle their first ever trip to the 'Boro.
  18. RBS lost all 3 to Clarkrange THIS season, which is what this thread about... yes RBS beat the Lady Buffs in 05/06... But I know where your trying to go by reading your first post and you should stop fishing to land the blame on something that you think was the "variable." All sports teams go through what you are trying to say happened to your RBS team this year, the superior teams get through or work through problems like attitudes, momentum swings in a season, etc. RBS is a real good team, just look at their record, they just didn't play the schedule to help build the "mental toughness", or some may say "character" to win against a good team when not on their best. I'm sure RBS played some bad games this year, but those(I bet) came against lesser teams, so they were still able to get the "W." Teams like Clarkrange or JC lose to ranked AA or AAA schools and can build on those losses. A loss in a season as long as the Basketball season goes, is not always a bad thing for a good team.
  19. crange87 has hit the nail on the head!!! RBS 06-07 32-4 (3 losses to "The VARIABLE") That is where U look to state "YOUR FACTS"
  20. Winner of OS vs. Clarkrange will be in finals playing Gleason/Jackson Co. winner. I can't help but to look at the schedules these teams have played (i.e. how much have they been tested) and the 7A reps schedules have been far tougher than any others I see...
  21. Agreed, no need, whatsoever, to lay blame on a high school kid, single out a kid, or a family on a forum such as this. You (I BLEED RED) obviously think no one reads these or something. CoachT is a wonderful forum for us to express concerns, well-wishes, or show how proud you are of your team. Not to bash coaches or players. RBS has a fine community, be thankful people want to move there to live and/or play, it will help you in the long run. You start bashing those who come in, you may keep someone out who might make a real impact...
  22. Good Job Lady Panthers!!! This team is representing Cumberland Co. well... A trip to the state tourney is within reach and is long overdue for this county... Good luck Wed night, take it to AE!!!
  23. Excellent High school basketball game!!! There have been some good points made about the schedules the teams played throughout the season. That point has been made in previous years also, and anyone who has any common sense of the game knows playing higher caliber competition will benefit your program at some point(i.e. Post Season). Clarkrange hadn't been playing on all cylinders as of late, to be expected out of a semi-young team, but to look at the magnitude of what last night's game meant, Clarkrange was obviously the more seasoned team. Congrats and good luck against JC!!!
  24. Lady Buffaloes by 18... Had plenty of time to re-focus after Districts. Coach Rogers will have em ready
  25. Tourney Time= New Season, New Opportunity!!! Good job Coaches Pile and Parker... Boys playing with some determination.
