  1. Yes Sir, I would consider that. Can you e-mail me the details? JamesT.Turner@smail.astate.edu

  2. I am in college in Arkansas. I went to high school in West Tennessee and relocating is no problem at all. My e-mail is JamesT.Turner@smail.astate.edu. Thanks for your reply and hope to hear back from you soon.
  3. Graduation is approaching fast, and I am still searching. I will be certified to teach K-12 PE/Health but am willing to pursue other certifications if needed. I have coached defensive backs at the high school level, and have tons of teaching experience other than my internship. I am willing to coach at any position. I have worked with middle class to higher class students and At-Risk lower class students. If anyone knows of any assistant football coaching openings I would be very grateful. Thanks.
  4. I am a 25 year old Physical Education Major that is graduating May 7, and am looking to begin my coaching career. My speciality is Defensive Backs and Recievers, but feel that I am qualified to coach other positions if needed. I am young and motivated and feel that I get the most out of young people that I have worked with. I am very educated on the game of football, but I am eager to learn more. If anyone knows of anything or has an opening on staff, I can send my resume via e-mail ASAP. Thank you.
  5. Coach Jimmy Whitby hs accepted a paraprofessional job as Fulton County Highschool's assistant basketball coach. Good Hire! Wish we had him back at Obion County to be an assistant.
  6. Yeah I was on the 03 team that beat Brighton 42-7 in the 9th week of the season with our b-team players in the second half. Then we meet up with them in the second round, they keyed in on the veer real well and we lost by 8 points. That was a little different I think. With the veer, and a coach that liked to run the ball every down, except four or five times a game we were pretty easy to plan for. With the Rebels offense being so balanced, with a running back like Fair, and a good passing attack it is not going to be an easy game for anyone to plan for. When I was there we went from one extreme to the next. lol 95% passing to 95% running. But the Rebels have to click on all cylinders like they did against Ripley or they won't beat anyone. I think the Rebels are a good team but it seems like it is either hit or miss for them. They need to hit again on Friday night or they are gonna be thinking about Ripley like I think about Brighton. Good Luck Rebels, don't overlook anyone, cause I promise you, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
  7. Either it did tonight, of they made adjustments, lol! ! How about them Rebels!
  8. The fact is a combined middle school football team won't happen...It just won't...So somehow, someway the four feeder coaches are going to have get on board with Coach Jackson and his staff and work toward a common goal of having a successful high school team...There is no reason why OC can't be good consistently in football because let's face it, 4a is not a powerhouse football classification... 4a is definately not an easy classification. There are some teams down this year, don't get me wrong. But it sure is not a cake walk by any means. Those teams usually have dang good athletes. I definately don't think the 1a schedule is very tough myself. Main reason is because other teams are bigger faster and stronger than OC. With a weight program and training implemented you will see a much better Rebel Team. Consolidating schools, and with the help of the Rebel coaches that problem will be solved. One thing from playing at Central and then coaching, and watching other high school practices, there is not a team anywhere that has more heart and want to win that OCCHS. I know when I was there, we had some hard, long practices that kids from most schools would of quit in a heart beat. I know everyone from Obion County wants to have a winning program but until the higher ups do anything about it is gonna be hard to make that a reality. If they don't consolidate schools, which they probaly never will, there at least needs to be weight training, speed training, and agility training implemented into the junior high programs. This will make a huge difference for the program.
  9. I have been reading all the comments on this post, and can see both sides. But one thing I will say and some people are not going to agree with this. How I see it, is this year's rebel team has 19 seniors which is alot. You won't see that very often. I am postitive there were more than 19 people in the eighth grade from four different schools when they were in junior high. So my point is that everyone is debating on the loss of players. The players that quit are probaly not that interested in football, getting better, liked getting hit or had the work ethic to play football anyway. Football isn't for all kids. I know when I was in junior high we practiced for maybe an hour, hour and a half during the last period of school. That is just not long enough to put in that much. And we wonder why kids come in with poor technique and agility. It takes twenty minutes to get dressed and warmed up. That doesn't leave that much time for tackle drills, speed training, defense, offense, and special teams, and etc. With a combined feeder school team, there will be more coaches to work with the boys, and more than likely a longer practice time. That is what the kids need. Practice makes perfect and if you can't practice no more than an hour then that does not give enough time to perfect much. I think with all the kids from all four school on the same page working together it will benefit them in the long run. I know it took guys from my junior high to warm up and befriend guys from other junior highs. With this arrangement they will have two years to warm up to each other and become a team. This is definatley the best bet for the program, but for the parents that are thinking about the right now situation with their son being stars at a junior high team that can only win games against obion county schools who they will play with in a year, aren't thinking about their future football career. If you won't your son to gain their full football potential, getting a two year head start with their team, and in a good program that contains weight training, and plenty of time for agility training and team practice, this is how he can reach it. But until that happens we better hope that Obion County produces some born stud athletes, which has not happened very often, or they will continue being two years behing everyone else and continue suffering mediocrity and below. Obion County needs a change, and this one will actually benefit the team and community. Nine winning seaasons in 40 something years can tell you that.
  10. It irritates me so bad when someone makes excuses. Did you ever think that NorthSide who was an undefeated team also coming into this game was just a better team. I know Liberty Tech is a good team but Northside isn't to shabby theirselves. Maybe their special teams had a better game plan and was just better than Liberty's. I think Liberty obviously by stats had an all around good game. Northside is a different team than in years past and their motivated and ready to play and that showed in last Friday's game.
  11. Coach Tab is doing good things for that program. I mean he took a team with a 2-8 record, went 7-4 his first year, now he is starting off 5-0. He is getting them boys fired up down there. His enthusiasm for the game must have rubbed off on them a little.
  12. That changes things alot when you state that they plan on having a 7th and an 8th grade team. As far as the school spirit goes I don't think that really sets in until the junior high level but that is not the issue for me. I much rather have a good county team that we all could be proud of than 4 mediocre teams. I think with there being a seventh and eighth team that there will be plenty oppurtunity for kids to get playing time. I still think we will lose a few but the few we lose probaly won't play in high school anyway. This has been a hot topic in OC for years, and I think it is definately worth a try.
  13. In consolidating, do you mean Hillcrest, Lake Road, Ridgemont, and Black Oak coming together on one team? Cause if you are I can understand both sides. I see how teachers think it will ruin some of the school spirit at their schools, since they won't be competing against each other anymore. I also think there is going to be a bunch of kids sitting on the sideline or not playing at all. I mean say you have 30 seventh and eighth graders from each school, you can only play eleven at a time. That is alot of kids not getting to play, or getting touches. I mean some kids are going to mature slower, and aren't going to catch on to the fundamentals as fast as others. And with all of these schools playing on one team then those players will never get a chance, and will probaly get overlooked when they go to high school. Coaches can say all they want that they are starting from zero when you enter high school, but if a coach sees you play in junior high and thinks you are a good athlete and player you are gonna be more likely to play. I know I went into high school at 5'2 and grew eight inches in a summer and was 5'10 by my sophomore season. If a kid sits the bench the whole time in junior high he more than likely will not continue playing in high school, and if he does Union City will probaly have a lot more transfering in. I do think it will hurt numbers alot more than a couple also. I also see the other side. Consolidating schools will get the kids use to playing together. I also think when consolidating that Oc's offense more than likely will be incorporated in the game plan which will give two extra years for them to know and perfect, if it isn't incorporated I don't see the point. When you have kids coming from four different schools into one high school, it takes the first year for the kids to even like each other noneless win together. I think it will definately build friendships sooner, and get them use to playing together. I am curious to see what everyone else thinks about the situation, and hear everyone else's arguements before I make my final decision on what I think is best.
  14. I think if you have the athletes to run the ball, and the big lineman to block for them, run the heck out of it. Manage the clock, and hopefully your defense is good enough to get a few stops. If you have a good quaterback, and a good receiving core air it out. Obion Central is not going to have a scatback that runs a 4'3, it is just not in the cards for us. Back in the day under Coach Shanks when we ran the ball 85% of the time we averaged about 5 wins a year. I think we have found out from previous years that a spread offense is best for Central. It spreads out the defense, and with four or five options to throw to there more than likely is always going to be someone open, and if not we will always have one tailback to check down to. You don't see many teams that run the ball, or pass the ball the whole time and win state championships. If the spread goes as planned, then it will open up the run game tremendously. Very seldom, if ever, is Obion Central going to be the fastest team on the field on game night. When you have receivers though that run precise routes, and a quaterback that can make good quick reads they will eat up a defense no matter how fast they are. The thing about a receiver is they know where they are gonna cut, the men covering them do not. Defenses in high school aren't near as good covering as they are in college, and like someone said not very many high schools around there run a spread or know how to defend it. Central is not gonna out athlete to many teams, but they can outsmart and outplay them. I look for it to be about 75% pass 25% run. I could be completely off, but this quaterback does not have the legs of haskins so I don't see him running out of the pocket for 60 yards when he has an opening. I think Fair will run the ball some, but I think he will be catching more screens than he will be running the ball. If it was not for Fair moving in I would say it would be more 85 to 90% passing, but if you have the talent to run the ball you have to implement it in your game plan. I am ready to see them in action.
  15. Yeah it was definately not a great defensive showing. Although I think LC only scored once, but they did drive the field a few times to give it up in the red zone. I knew LC was going through a coaching change at the moment too so I didn't look to get much from that scrimmage.
  16. Well that is good to hear. I went to the Lake County scrimmage. The Quaterback looked like a passing quaterback. Had good accuracy and pretty good arm strength. I am ready to see the pass happy offense that Coach Jackson is so known for. With Haskins gone, I belive the passing game will be implemented much more and respected by opponents this year. With defenses having to honor our pass attack, I believe Fair will have a chance to bust open for some big plays. It's great to have a good running back in the spread offense. I hope our defense has enough time to get it together. Coach Jackson is doing great things for the program, and I hope it all pays off this season. Good Luck Guys!
  17. How are the Obion County Central Rebels going to be this year? I am pumped to see how they do this season?
  18. Hey UC fans do any of yaw know if coach Kennedy is still at UC?
  19. Did coach Wes Kennedy from Union City go to Harrisburg High School in Arkansas? I got some buddies in college that are from Harrisburg that said they got a defensive coordinator from Dyersburg as an assitant coach. My buddy said that he thinks it was Coach Kennedy. If not who from Dyersburg went there.? Either from Union City or from Dyersburg, Harrisburg is a big downgrade. If anyone has any info let me know.
  20. Yeah I do believe that some of the ole UC fans down the road talk a little trash themselves. I do not agree with Coach Bowling being bought along with his star players. I think any coach that can get players to move with him to another school is a heck of a coach. More power to the players, that is their choice. But dont down OC fans for talking trash cause I promise UC trash talking equals to it, or outweighs it. So the people out there who do talk the trash, act like you have a little class about yourself. Good luck to Union City and Coach Bowling!
  21. Obviously the players have somewhat sorta self motivation or they wouldn't be going out for the football team. A coach's job is getting his players to buy into what he is saying. That provides motivation! Pregame pep talks are very good motivators. I remember when we played Covington in 03 Coach Bowling gave a very good pre game speech and brought one of our teammates helmets that passed away, that he had bronzed. We had guys so fired up they were crying! Chills filled the whole locker room. It pumped us up to where we dominated Covington who later that year went to the State Championship. When Coach Hill came to Obion Central I remember all of the team was reading about him in the paper and I remember he said, " You give me a quaterback, I'll give you a State Championship!" That article got us excited about football. If you have your team standing around silent right before you run through that REbel football sign, it's your job as a coach to get over there and light some fire under their butts and get them pumped to play football. The players look up to the coach if they think that he is just going through the motions that is exactly what they are going to do. We have never had a problem with players not wanting to win games, and doing anything the coach ask to be able to do that. I asked Coach David Jones, who is coach hill's wing man defensive coordinator, when he came to see us graduate if he liked his knew school. He said yeah but the players aren't near as dedicated to winning as yaw are. Obion Central wants to win, they just need to be taught that losing isn't an option. That being mediocre doesn't cut it, the new coach will have to get them thinking that way again.
  22. I go to college with a guy from Cape Giradeau, Missouri, and he said he knew Coach Jackson and that he was an awesome coach. He said he was a fun guy, but his team was always disciplined, and played motivated. That is what Obion Central needs. Obviously the region we are in these days we aren't going to have as many all out athletic kids as other teams. The spread offense, runned to perfection will win Obion Central games. It doesn't take a 4'4 guy to run a precise route. The spread offense if run correctly is hard to defend in high school. I was there to witness it. I played football at Central from 2000 to 2004 and running the spread is awesome for a team like central that doesn't have a 4'4 scatback and prolly never will. But we have never had a problem with lazy or undisciplined players. This offense, I think, will not only bring player involvement but the community will get back into it as well. I know when we ran it the stands were packed out to the max. That is a big confidence booster, and motivates kids to win games. Motivation is the biggest part of football. That being said, I went to a few games last year, and pregame is where it starts. Every player on the team was just standing there like a bump on a log. I know we were hooping hollering and head butting and everything else. I think it was some of the coach's fault. It is a coach's job to get his players motivated. I think also losing hurt their confidence, and prolly less and less people at their games probaly did too. I hope this new coach is left to do his job. Coming from Obion Central not to long ago, I was very embarrassed when I heard what happened with the coach that left after three days. Parents I know your heart is in the right place but let people do their jobs. If you were a carpenter, and the superintendant came up to you and said I really dont like how you nailed that board up take it down and nail it again. You wouldn't probaly be very upset and probaly would say a few hostile words to him. That being said, you know more about your job than a coach or a superintendant does, and I promise you they know more about theirs than you do. Lets get behind our players and leaders of the school, and get Obion Central back to where it needs to be. A team to compete with. I know I am very excited about this new coach and this offense and I can't wait to see where he leads this team. GO REBELS!
