  1. Maryville first team scored once on a pass interception and once on a one yard dive by Chris McCord. Oak Ridge never scored on Maryville's 1st or 2nd team defense. Maryville also kicked a field goal. One of Maryvilles receivers dropped a touchdown pass that he should have caught. Maryville quarterbacks over threw one of the receivers twice after he had gotten behind the safety. Corey Booker had some nice runs, but they were a result in large part to poor tackling by Maryvilles defensive tackles and linebackers. On most of those runs he was hit more than once either in the backfield or the line of scrimmage. I give Booker credit he was running hard, but look for that sort of tackling to be corrected in a hurry in practice this week. Oak Ridge's JV Scored twice on Maryville's JV Scores then: Starters and 2nd string Maryville - 17 Oak Ridge -0 JV Oakridge - 14 Maryville - 0 Thats the Facts.
  2. The Rebels defense will be very good. The Wildcats had size and speed, but never scored on the 1st or 2nd Defense. The secondary is just short of outstanding for this point in the season. THe Wing-T and Corey Booker gave the line and linebackers fits. But we seemed to make big plays when we needed them....We must tackle better. The D will not see any better backs than Corey and # 44 from the N. Gwinnett team last week, until late in the season and the playoffs. Clement and Gaskin had fine days. Andrew Hodges was very good today. Gaskins pick for a TD was pretty. The Offense struggled some against a very large, fast and talented OR defense. Those guys will give 5A teams fits this year. But we scored 10 points and could have had at least a couple of more if not for penalties and missed wide open receivers. I hope the QB situation gets settled soon, I believe that is some of the problem. Cade and Alex both had good days. Alex led the only TD drive of the day. We also need to get the right combination in the backfield and at the receivers. Boy John Hughes #22 had some fine runs today. All in All this team is way ahead of what I expected at this time in the process. The coaches are doing a great job and I am very optimistic about the season. The Rebels will be a force by the time play-offs roll around.
  3. AND his brother GENE was a heck of a dancer......
  4. Gary Tucker is hurt...shoulder Rhett Brooks and Jefferey Smith are also in the mix. Smith only in back-up. I would say Garner has had a good week, could see him start today..only a guess. Clement could be there come gameday. They have so much depth in the secondary that they were trying Clement at WR. He could play anywhere, but has not seemed to have found a home yet. He is kind of like Rouse, can play and star anywhere...but where?
  5. Clement is working back-up as corner and safety at present. He was starting with the offense at WR, but lately its been Harris, Sanders, Gaskin with Clement and a host of others in back-up.
  6. Maryville will not have anyone in the secondary shorter than 6' tall. they will start flowers and humphreys at the corners, secondary will be Garner and Gaskin? Receivers: Starters Gaskin, Harris, and Sanders ...only Harris is shorter than 6'

    Hey STARS

Stars, I did not mean to imply that GQ and staff were not fair, and I know that they will do what is best for the team, I trust him and know him well...I have a son with three gold rings. I just felt many on this board were counting Alex out as far as the QB position. I have known Alex since he was 8 or 9 and I know how hard he has worked to come back from his injury, I know what this means to him. I know that he checks this board and I just wanted to make sure that he knows that some of us that are very up on the program are pulling for him. Maybe stated better this way: Everything being equal I believe that Alex is the best QB on the team if not one of the best in the state, potentially. If GQ goes with Cade I think that is GREAT. Alex was great in the pre-season last year until the injury and had a hard time with the situation last year. He ought to get a shot to win the right to be under center for Maryville as the starter. How ever it shakes out I can assure you of one thing that Alex will accept coach Quarles decision and do his best to help the team.

    Hey STARS

On the QB situation: Cade Thompson is the starting QB at present. If Alex Rouse gets a fair shot he will be under center on opening day. How could you not go with him...He is big and fast, has a great arm and is an accurate thrower, and is a triple threat as an option QB. As far as him at receiver/DB...someone help me out...I watched most of spring and summer workouts and have yet to see Alex spend any serious time at either position. He could play anywhere he is the best athlete on the team. The Secondary: This is the most depth that Maryville has had in years, and not just bodies. There are potiential stars everywhere. Starters/Players....Clement, Flowers, Garner, Gaskin, Humphries, Jenkins, Buckley, Millwood, and others Receivers: Great group of receivers: Sanders, Kirk, Clement, Gaskin, Jenkins, Garner and others....should be fun.
  9. Most of us Rebels do not have any problem with you having a great team this year. We know how the spot light feels and what goes along with being on top. I say enjoy the moment. I looking forward to a great game today....Hope the field is in good shape. For the Maryville faithful: If we want a state contender in baseball we need to get after the AD and demand that we have a full time coach, ( if Gaylor wants it..FINE ), Our own baseball field and hitting facilities, have a Freshman team, etc. There is no excuss for a school with our resources and talent NOT to be a FORCE in baseball just as we are in Football and a lesser extent Basketball. Just my 2 cents worth.
  10. I am watching with great pride the USS Abraham Lincoln return home from the Gulf. I just want to say We are PROUD of all who serve and protect. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE AND YOUR SACRIFICE TO THE COUNTRY. Thank you for protecting us, keeping us free, and shining the light of freedom around the world. For those troops still in harms way....Pray for Them, Their family, Our President and Commanders. Until you return may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Go USA
  11. Alex Rouse of Maryville....Even with a gimpy knee...an outstanding athlete. Always reads the ball off the bat, takes great angles, has a great glove, a great arm and can knock the seams loose.
  12. Lets indeed pray! For our troops, their families, our President and our Country. [sorry for the edits, ELA] [Edited by ELA on 3-19-03 6:58A]
  13. What Makes this the offical list? How were they selected for the list? Posted by rbfootball: Here are the offcial top 25 sophomores in the state of Tennessee at: http://www.eteamz.com/knoxstars/files/2005index.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Edited by RedReb on 3-16-03 4:16P]
  14. I am going to do this and know that some are going to take this as an excuse, but since the season is over and the REBELS did not need any excuses to win the state...here goes. Had anyone of these detractors seen a 100% healthy Maryville team play the, at the time #2 team Morristown West, in week 4 there would not be so much discussion about Maryville's "AVERAGE ATHLETES". The fact is that this bunch of young men overcame more obstacles this year than most people would believe and STILL managed to win the state. 1) They lose T.J. Brock before the season. One of the states best backs. 2) They lose Alex Rouse their Starting Quarterback in the last scrimmage before the season starts. One of the best athletes in the state. Maybe the best all around QB in the state. 3)After game four they are ravaged by injuries. I am not going to list anything but the state game and only those that I personally know about. In no particular order. 1) MLB - Lucus Tipton is playing on a knee that is so bad that his knee cap pops out of place if you look at it the wrong way...Elects to postpone surgery until after the season. He still managed to play a very good game in the middle. 2) DT - Cole Mckinney is playing on a knee that will require surgery, again elects to play and finish the season. 3) OG - Drew Eubanks is playing with a badly torn ACL. he has been on crutches until the week before... Has surgery immediately after season. 4) WR/SS/PR - Brad Merrit is playing with a torn ACL 5) DE - Andrew Hodges is playing with an ankle injury that had his playing status in question until just before the game. 6) DE - Jeremy Killebrew - his back-up has been playing with a broken arm, and doing a great job. 7) OG - Chris Large - is playing on an ankle that has caused him to miss several games. 8) DB/WR/PR - Russell Clement is playing with a fractured bone in his leg, honest to Pete, has a soft cast on. Still manages to have a great game after injuring his elbow in second quarter. 9) DT - Ryan Headrick has an injured back. I know injures are part of the game, but if you were around the program this year you would know what a great job the coaches did filling key positions due to injuries, and what an outstanding group of guys these players are. They handled all the adversity with poise and class, heart and character. I am proud to say that I am a RED REBEL parent and we owe an excuse/apology/explaination to no one. Oh one other thing. This Junior class maybe the most talented group that Maryville has ever had...yes I know what I said. They have not lost a game since the 8th grade, they lost one,....averaged 50 points a game as freshmen. The only reason that you have not heard more about them is they played behind one of the great senior classes in Tennessee High School Football History, the 2000-2002 MARYVILLE RED REBELS. You better get them early!!!!!! [Edited by RedReb on 3-16-03 9:35A]
  15. Lets see a show of hands...how many believe that with any coach you can win three state championships in four years with just average players. These departing seniors started their career by losing the the first four games of their Sophomore year...then went 40-1 during the rest of their career at MHS. They have the longest winning streak in school history....Have broken the school scoring record, (over 600 points), two years in a row. Set state defensive records this year. I can go on if you like. Average? by what measure? Can and will more play college ball...If they want to!!
  16. No I did not take your response as a personal attack on Maryville, sorry if I came across that way. In fact, I think yours is one of the more reasoned arguments that I have seen on these boards, and I realize many are just taking pot shots at the program in general. I made the point on recruiting because I have seen this topic come up time and again. Many equate the two, tuition is the same as recruiting, it is not, and I realize that you understand the difference. My other point was that although tuition is available to a few each year, it is very hard to get and timing is unpredictable. As for Jon Lawhon I do not know his case, but I will find out, I know his father. He played as a Freshman last year. I have heard, can not confirm, that his older brother wanted to attend Maryville but could not get in. Govman, I will get the information from the horse,s mouth and report back. It IS GREAT to be a MARYVILLE RED REBEL.
  17. Maryville will accept tuition students...that is a fact. Can the staff, coaches, etc. use this to recruit players...Absolutely NOT!! If a player wants to live outside the Maryville Zone and want to attend MHS he must get on the long waiting list. There are very few openings and there are no considerations besides your number. If a student waits until they are in Middle School they most likely will not get in before their Freshman high school year. We have a player that will be a freshman this year. His parents lived outside the city. His older brother was a member of Maryville's 98 state championship team. His parents purchased a home inside the city because it did not look like they would make it off the list. Even having one child in the system doesn't guarantee that a sibling will be admitted. It is availability and your position on the list...first come first served...PERIOD!! As far as your Carl Stewart example. Carl's mom is a teacher in the Maryville system. I know them, my guess is that people like the Stewarts would move into the city if tuition was not an option. I also know the Tiptons and would think the same. The Everets who have sons that play moved into the city. My point is that most of these parents who can afford to pay tuition, (it is not cheap), could and would most likely move into the city if tuition were not an option. Maryville does not recruit....Doesn't Happen!!! RebelRon is correct about the many factors for Maryville's success. A huge factor is that kids grow up wanting/dreaming of playing for the REBELS...Its amazing. This year there are more young men coming out for football than there are slots available. There are Freshman, Sophomores, and juniors in spring practice working their tails off just trying to make the rooster. It's great to be a MARYVILLE RED REBEL.
  18. I do not believe that these are Maryville supporters. But, if you are....have some class. If you don't know how, come out for football next year. It will elevate your character and you might learn some manners.
  19. It's never a mistake to play the best player. Rouse deserves a shot at the starting QB position. He was head and shoulders better in the fall than the other quarterbacks. The offense was at a whole different level when he was behind center. Maryville is neck deep in skill position talent. This upcoming junior class is as good a group as Maryville has ever had, maybe the best by their senior year. The question mark for this year is the Line.
  20. If Alex Rouse is able to come back 100% for his injured knee he will be one of the best QBs in the state; maybe the best. He is hands down the best QB on the team. The soph. that played this year did a nice job, but he is not in Alex's league. Alex is 6'3" can fly and has a great arm. As good as Maryville's offense was this year they would have been incredible with Alex at QB.
  21. Maryville has several juniors that should be very good. Dave Gardner - Safety Antonio Byner - Running Back Andrew Clement - Receiver/Defensive back Kirk Harris - Receiver Jeffrey Smith - Defensive End Rhett Brooks - Defensive End/Tackle Aaron May - Lineman
  22. Andrew Clement - Maryville - Middle Infielder Shawn Blair - Maryville - Third/Outfield
  23. Generally only half of those are Home games. So you are promised to get 20 chances to play for your school on your home field in front of the home crowd. Enjoy it to the fullest...it all comes and goes much to quickly. I always admonished my senior to stay on the field as long as he could after games to fellowship with the players, parents, etc. especially if its a home game...it is so special to win on your home field. Soak it all in and don't miss any part...the memories last a lifetime. Maryville had their banquet tonight...a very bitter sweet time when you have a senior...but it has been such a blessing. 24. The Maryville DBs are every bit as good.
