  1. I have a strong feeling that Dyer County will be back. Only lost 3 active players, pitching will be strong & deep as well. We will have to fill first base, second base & third base (Kyle Hinson, Drew Thurmond & Chase Pilkenton). There is a lot of young talent to fill those shoes though. IMO the Choctaws will be back. They held the "State Champions to the fewest runs in the entire tournament & went 11 innings, with an error between the winners & losers bracket. What a game ! I'm bettin' on D C to return. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  2. Yep! It's strange how one pitch is called a ball & thensame pitch, same location is a strike (sometimes THE NEXT PITCH!) I have no problem with umpires as long as the calls go both ways.I have to say that our games were called pretty much even, so I have no real complaints. IMO a pitcher just has to find the "Blues" sweet spot & live with / on it !!!! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Individually i noted that the umpires were "reasonably consistent". BUT............ somewhat stingy @ times. I believe in gettin' kids to swing the bat ! That's not to say give 'em a half acre, BUT ............. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I don't like seeing a team take pitch after pitch over millimeters ! HIT THE BALL or at least swing.Bein' smart in the box is one thing, but a pitcher should have a reasonably consistent strike zone. Then it's up to him to find & hit his spots! JMO !
  3. Congratulations to Goodpasture ! Played a BUNCH of extra inning games. Makes Wednesday's "Marathon pill" just a little easier to swallow ! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  4. That goes for me as wel! My only concern is what have they got left (not necessarily in the pitching situation). They have had to play back to back days with 11 inning games. USJ had to play 2 for a fact, but Goodpassture has had to play 22 innings in 2 days in the "Winners Bracket". Games like the one on Wed. with Dyer County are an emotional "Drain" win, lose or draw. I'm sure that the marathon yesterday was no less stressful even thought there were more runs scored. My support goes to Goodpasture. I hope they left the field, ate & went to BED! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  5. I'm pullin' for ya Goodpasture! 11 with our kids yesterday & 11 again today if I understand correctly. Get them boys rested as best you can ! I sure wish we could have played again ! That was a tough pill to swallow, but as I've said before that's baseball !
  6. No offense taken. It was a heartbreaker & definitely took it's toll on our kids emotionally & physically. Chad Gammons caught 9 1/3 & then started on "the hill" vs Seymour. The effort & Heart was there, but his legs had to be weary! That goes for all the Choctaws. Yep we fell short, BUT .......... WHAT A RUN ! THANK YOU CHOCTAWS FOR A GREAT YEAR ! To all the Seniors, I can't say enough, so I'll just say "Thanks for the memories ". All you returning Choctaws, you've had a taste, NOW let's get back in '08 !! Chase, Drew,Kyle & C.T. You guys have been awesome ! Best of luck in whatever you do after graduation I KNOW Y'all will help somebody's program next year @ the next level. Best of Luck to those teams still in the mix! Goodpasture, for the remainder of this tournament I am a fan ! But I hope we meet again next year same time same station ! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  7. The Goodpasture "Marathon" took it's toll on DC. 20 min bus ride, eat & rest in an hour & 20 minutes back to Blackman to play a "salty" Seymour team. That's a pretty tall order !BUT...... That's why they play the game & that's Baseball. I would like to thank the Seymour fan that settled down the "Rabble Rouser" on your side of the field in the bleachers. This tournament is IMO as much about sportsmanship (ALMOST) as winning & that youngster needs a few lessons. We are proud of you Choctaws & Coach Ozment ! After the game with Goodpasture today , I have little doubt that WE WILL BE BACK !GO ORANGE !!!!
  8. Don't guess DC's gonna get any respect anyway! Our pitcher threw 9 1/3 innings. 6 2/3 scoreless, didn't give up one hit more than Akins (Who did gut out an OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE!) Check out the box score link in this thread. Goodpasture AIN'T the only team that had an outstanding pitching performance. Better not count the Choctaws out yet. Point of reference District Tournament. Milan one night & Dyersburg "Back 2 Back". Congratulations B.A.& ALL THE CHOCTAWS ON AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE ! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU & ALL OUR CHOCTAWS ! KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE ! NEVER SAY DIE ! IT ain't over till it's OVER ! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  9. We know the feelin' @ D.C. we lost a ton of players to graduation. Didn't even get to the 'Boro last year. We do have the same coach & he is a "Good Un". BUT we're heded to the "Fling" with 3 seniors & the rest of the young team with loads of talent & a ton of heart. Like y'all every body thought Dyersburg would smoke us inthe District final..... WRONG ! "Back 2 Back" fightin outta the losers bracket. What happens prior to the District is dinasaur bones. I'd rather win 'em all don't misunderstand me, but the time to peak is NOW ! Best of luck to Lexington, we could see you guys & goin' back to "Baba Ruth" ball, it was always a war. West Tennessee is well represented I hope they make us all proud ! Good Luck !
  10. I'm goin with USJ on this one because we have seen them. I hate to pick against a team that I know nothing about, but even though we didn't play our best ball game against USJ, they did beat us in our own house. For 3-4 innings it was 0-0, but we gave up a couple of costly walks that came back to bite us. Momentum no matter how it is generated (walks , errors, whatever) swings & ballgames definitely go in the direction of "Big Mo". Our kids hit the ball against USJ, but it was either a "Can o' Corn" or hit right @ somebody. The reason I'm going with USJ is they DO have a solid ball club, play disciplined baseball, DO NOT make many errors. Also I wouldn't mind D.C. playin 'em again AND MOST OF ALL THEY ARE A WEST TENNESSEE TEAM ! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  11. I appreciate the info (seriously). I don't doubt one word of it because nobody is gonna "Back Into" the Spring Fling. It takes a team with all the attributes that you mentioned. I look forward to this as well as any other match up that comes along. This sounds like the making of a game that will be worth the price of admission for all that choose this game as the one for Tuesday watching.Lots of Seniiors huh? We don't have lots of Seniors (only 3 acctive as I mentioned earlier), but the young players that we do have posess a lot of baseball savy & ain't gonna give up many errors. In the pitching area, we have at least 2 pitchers with mid to upper 80's capabilities with their share of "stuff" to go along with the velocity. Both are capable of going the distance & to me seem to get stronger as the game progresses.the rest of the rotation has done very well throughout the year & get enough ground balls & pop ups to allow their defense to work for them. Hittting up & down the line up is reasonably solid & if the "long ball" is gonna be the factor, we have our share of power as well. I have all the respect in the world for Seymour as well as any team that made the "Spring Fling" but if D.C. brings their A-game. I fear none. we have played strong teams all year. We haven't won every game, but these kids have yet to send me home embarassed. We are all proud of them & just to be in the 'Boro, but I DO NOT BELIEVE we will play 2 & go home or watch from the bleachers. Thanks for the info & I look forward to seing 2 solid baseball teams play the game the way it should be played on Tuesday. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  12. I DON"T know what Seymour has, BUT.... I DO KNOW that D.C. has a lot of heart & WILL NOT go down easy. They will come to play no matter who the opponent. Yes, I am a D.C. parent / fan, so I'm gonna say that D.C. wins this one (naturally I'm gonna go with my "Boys" !) There is a lot of talent on this team & only three active Seniors, so it'll be interestin' to see how the youth of this team reacts to the "Big One", but don't sell thm short, they are a "salty" ball club & hit the ball well. Gotta have somethin' to get there & beating Milan one night, then beating Dyersburg "Back 2 Back" to win the District speaks volume IMO.Beat a scrappy Covington team in the Regional as well. Also D.C. played some tough competition throughout the year.SO......... I'm goin' with D.C. The Choctaws have enough pitching to survive. There's been a lot of talk lately about Derrick Sims & he IS for real! He doesn't throw in the 90's, but he hits his spots. For all those that raved about how many he pitched to get us there, WELL his arm is FINE & he is rested. There is more pitching on this team as well & a solid defense to back up whoever is on the " Hill"! I don't know who will start on Tuesday. Only Coach Ozment knows that, BUT the Choctaws ain't goin' to the 'Boro for a vacation. If they bring their "A-Game", they can give anybody a fit & will be a force to be reckoned with. As I said, I know nothing about Seymour, but when you get to the "Fling", Seymour, D.C. or ANYBODY ELSE better not take their opponents lightly ! NOBODY WANTS TO GO HOME or become a spectator. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  13. They must've played Sheffield a bunch of times ! LOL ! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  14. I just said this on a diffeent thread, BUT IMO I don't care who you are,(including USJ) the way this tournament is shaping up you had BETTER bring your "A-GAME" ! Ain't that why they play ? There's a lot of talent throughout & NOBODY is gonna wanna go home ! Granted USJ is the favorite in most people/ fans minds, but there's always a "SPOILER" in there somewhere. Looks to me to be an interesting "Spring Fling" for sure!
  15. I reckon their money just wasn't where their heart was ! LOL ! D C ' s "purty dang salty ! They're GONNA come to play ! I think this'll be a veeery interestin State Tournament ! Withe the teams that are in, I see it as an "Any Given Game" type tournament. USJ has a lot of talent FOR A FACT ! But on any given day with what I see NOBODY had better show up with less than their "A - GAME" !
  16. Good thing for catsbacker & timbdp they didn't take the "LONGSHOT ODDS" you offered ! DC made short order of Sheffield allowed no hits, 1 base runner reached on error & DC came back with a vengance 15-0 in 3 innings. NEWSTANG you had a pretty safe bet on that one ! /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  17. Dyer County 15-0 over Sheffield
  18. The Choctaws came to PLAY ! Dyer County players, coaches, parents & fans may have been the only ones that beleived that they could do it twice in the same day, but those kids have HEART ! I'll give credit to the Trojans for being a very talented ball club, BUT....... Dyer County has NO QUIT in them ! Coach Ozment has done a GREAT job with a relatively young ball club this year & yesterday's "Back 2 Back" was a combination of great coaching & a ball team that was on a mission. The whole team held themselves accountable for their own destiny. Congratulations D C ! What a way to finish the District Tourney, ending Milan's season on Tuesday & "Back 2 Back" wins over a very talented Dyersburg team. Dyer County you should be proud having BOTH teams advancing to Regional play ! Congratulations Coach Ozment on a job well done with only 4 seniors on your ball club & congratulations to the Dyer County Choctaws DISTRICT 13AA CHAMPIONS !!! To each & every one of you WELL DONE !
  19. Dyer County swept Crockett yesterday @ DCHS & again today @ Crockett. Kyle Hinson threw well yesterday. Today @ Crockett it was a Homerun Derby, but DCHS won that battle as well. Chad Gammons started & B.A Davis closed the door in the last four innings. Crockett took 3 to the yard in the first three innings, for DC Shea Thomas hit 2 out, Chase Pilkenton 1 to the yard, "Biscuit" Bevis launched one to the battin' cage in left and Evan Wilkerson took one out. Drew Thurmon 's been "hotter than a Two Dollar Pistol"@ the plate also. Scores :15-8 today @ Crockett & 8-4 yesterday @DCHS. As for the "wreck" vs Covington, that's a fact, BUT the bats have come alive and the defense has gottten "saltier" since. Also Huntington didn't fare very well against DC over the weekend, DC took that one 10-5. DC is a young team to be sure, but they are scrappy & well coached. If the bats keep rattlin' and they "D-UP" to their potential they'll be fine. Somebody mentioned a "sleeper" or a "dark horse" this team might be the one ! The young kids they have are no slouches ! I ain't givin' away too much on pitchin' , but somebody already mentioned Derick Simms & Kyle Hinson. Both of them have turned in pretty strong performances already this year and I think both will only improve as the season progresses. There shouldn't be a shortage of arms for the Choctaws, but I'll keep the rest of 'em under my "DC BALLCAP" for now! Just hide & watch!
