  1. Coacht, The CORRECT final scores for these two games are--- Boyd Buchanan 39, Rhea County 20 East Ridge 19, Walker Vally 6 bb bb
  2. Hey Coacht, I like this picking the Big Ones. It can add a lot of interest to basketball and football. I really appreciate what you are doing on this web-site. I work with Brewer Broadcasting in S/E Tennessee. We are currently covering Bradley, Cleveland, Rhea County and a limited number of Walker Valley games on our nine stations for football, basketball and baseball, some of which are simulcast on FM and AM. Your board provides us with a great insight to actual facts as well as a lot of well-intentioned braggadocio from fans and families. Your plus members will generally be those that have some knowledge of all games and teams and I believe that their opinions should be respected in most cases. bb
  3. 1) Tyner-McCallie-Defending Division II state champs against one of the favorites in 2A. I saw Tyner in several scrimmages and they are BIG and strong and was the best team of a five way scrimmage, including Rhea, Bradley, East Ridge, Cumberland County. This is a huge Chattanooga battle for this early in the season. Basically an inner-city black school versus the BMW crowd. 2) Baylor/Cleveland-Baylor will be much stronger and Cleveland is again a favorite in the 4-4A. Again a private school continuing to rebuild after losing a great qb (Willie Idlette) against a perennial powerhouse. If LeVonte Barber stays healthy, look forward Cleveland to have a great year. Region 4-4A with Cleveland, Hixson, Red Bank, Rhea County and an emphatically improved Chatt. Central will have to be considered the strongest, top-to-bottom, in the state. Their only problem is that they will match up with Region 4-3A (Maryville). So the fun stops there when it gets to playoff time. 3) Maryville/Alcoa-A bitter rival of nearby cities that will cause Maryville to run it up if they can. 4) Bradley/McMinn County-A huge region matchup of even more bitter rivals. Last year Bradley played McMinn County in the Krystal Classic held at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga by giving up the home field advantage, to say nothing of parking and concessions. This year when the return game was supposed to be played again at Finley, McMinn County decided to go ahead and play it at their place. This game has HUGE ramifications within the region. 5) Soddy-Daisy/Red Bank--Red Bank (last night in the jamboree) looked quite a bit down from last year after losing Gerald Riggs to say nothing of 30+ years head coach Tom Weathers. This is one of the best attended and hardest fought games each year in Chattanooga.
  4. Bradley won state championships in basketball for the boys back in 1940 and 1942. The school started in 1916 but there were no state championships contested until 1921. Cleveland was started in 1965 and won a football championship in 1968 (I believe). It's gonna be a lot tougher for WVHS to win a state championship due to their moving into a larger class and the competition that brings. bb
  5. The Chattanooga Times Free Press has been the best at providing coverage of high school sports that I have seen for newspapers in Tennessee. Since they are in the tri-state area of TN/GA/AL, they cover sports in all three states in depth. Fridays during football and basketball there have a special high school section that is four pages in addition to their regular coverage. The other papers in TN's major cities pale in comparison to the CTFP. There is also a lot of good coverage of local high school teams by the local paper, but nothing like what we get from the CTFP. I can't wait for football to tee it up and get started again!
  6. Hey Coacht, Just when I wondered what you could do to improve your web-site, you have done it again! OUTSTANDING job by you and your staff!!!! Keep it up! Thanks for everything! BB
  7. Hey guys, Let's just say that we have seen a lot of great games in Tennessee high school football!!! Bradley/Jackson Central Merry in the championship game in 76 in triple overtime has to be at the top of the list. 50-48 Bradley with Scott Kyle scoring 32 points including a fake conversion for 2 points and the win. Everything was on the line in this one!
  8. Hey bball1, NEVER, BUT NEVER CALL THEM THE LADY BEARS. THEY ARE THE BEARETTES. Make no mistake about that. You can call Tellico the Lady Bears and you can call Sevier County the Lady Bears but don't EVER call BRADLEY the Lady Bears! They are the BEARETTES!!!! Now and forever!!!!!
  9. Hey Peacemaker, I don't understand your reasoning about BC having "less talent" or some teams not being "BC lucky". That must mean that Jack Harlow is a pretty darn good coach with this "less talent". If I recall, Bradley had two seniors this year and one signed a basktetball scholarship. Last year all five starters signed scholarships including Jackson who signed with UT! Is this lesser talent???? What does it take for you to admit that Bradley has as good or better talent as anybody in the district and has better coaching hands down? No other coach could have had the injuries that Harlow did his first year and made it to the final four. Don't give me that whining about McMinn losing three girls to injury. Bradley had four different girls that missed almost the entire season with injuries yet something, be it superior coaching or that "lesser talent" brought them through. Maybe it's the Bradley mystique or tradition. As for Morris, you better evaluate your 1-3 selections for the district. I don't see McMinn or Cleveland better than Bradley. Like last year, both of those may beat Bradley on their home floor but when it gets down to the games that really count (tournament), I'll put my money on Bradley and give you odds. By the way, this year's district will be at Cleveland so maybe their "superior" talent in spite of their poor excuse for coaching may finally overcome Bradley and McMinn and they may finally win a game that actually means something.
