  1. There is simply no way that football will ever go back to three classifications.I do not understand the thinking that state championships today have no meaning. Ask Greenville, CAK, Maryville and whoever else won in 2011, do not believe that is what the schools, community or players think. Does the TSSAA need to fine tune the playoffs? They sure do. Should schools be penalized for playing a tough schedule and incurring more losses that a achool with an easier schedule? That needs to be changed. I think the whole playoff scheduled should be seeded more equitably across regions in order to reward teams with the best records and toughest schedules. Just got to get the best teams in the playoffs regardless of regional alignments.
  2. Would CAK keep Alcoa on the schedule? Alcoa would most likely move back to 2A with 5 classifications.
  3. Until somebody proves different. looks like the Chiefs are the team to beat in 5AA.
  4. Great game last night at Polk County. Meigs wins 3-0 in extra innings.
  5. Please. Blame the umpires??? The biggest change is the move of the pitcher's plate to 43 feet. Has closed the gap between the upper echelon teams. Seeing less 10 run rule games than in the past. Plus I think that the lower level teams are getting better. More girls playing summer ball than ever before. These teams are also now better coached. Less defensive mistakes and more pitchers who can throw stikes. It is plus for the game that the contests are more competitive. I agree that the upper echelon teams do win but can not put on cruise control because they have great coaching and players.
  6. That way he won't have to call 80-100 schools trying to fill out a non-conference schedule. Most public schools even Maryville and Alcoa do not have that kind of problem finding non-conference opponents. Even small school success stories like Trousdale or South Pitt do not have huge issues filling the schedule. Is there a feeling amoung the publics (founded or unfounded) that it is best to not play privates as a way to force them into D2?
  7. Is this a Bledsoe fan whining about the officials? Give me a break. If you have ever played any sport in Pikeville, you know that Chattanooga does not send its best crews up the valley. Go ahead line the Chargerettes up in 2012-2013 and you will get more of the same. It was a physical game at Central. The officials over here call alot of fouls all the time. Massengil does get away with some things but so do all great players. She is so much better than her competetion, it is just the way is goes with that type of player.
  8. Great defensive game plan by Obion. The defense was geared to stop Massengil and make someone else beat them. Central 9 of 34 from the 3 point arc. Goodman and Wright were as good as advertised. Hicks and Wiggins played key roles for OC.....Central will be back. No one even close in District 5AA or in the region. Look for Trentham and Myers to make a dynamic inside duo in 2012-2013. Massengil will be able to showcase her talents even more. Central will be experienced and deep next year. Proud of the Chargerettes.
  9. Hope this gets shut down. This is a low life statement and not in the spirit of CoachT.
  10. Nice post. Tough week for the Lady Jackets. Part of play-off basketball. Experience will only make the Lady Jackets program better. No doubt Region 4AA is better that Region 3AA but you play who you have to play to get to the dance. With Masingil, a group of 3 point sharp shooter plus a pressure defense with plenty of depth will give the Chargerettes a chance at the Boro.
  11. Officials let them play that is for sure. The tone of the game was set early. To the officials credit, the calls were consistent from start to finish. My take on the game is that Grundy's inexperience on this level was very evident during the first 6 minutes of the game. Once they got in flow, they competed pretty evenly. Thought Grundy's post players were not as effective as they would have hoped for. The Massengil girl is the real deal for Central.......Letting Central having open looks from the 3 point line is a dangerous tactic. Hats off to the Lady Jackets. They play with alot of energy and passion. Congrats to Central for matching the physical play of Grundy. Central will need to be hitting on all cylinders at the Boro.
  12. Then who was the OC and is he going to Tellico? Will it affect the Chiefs? Who will be the OC?
  13. Del, Hope to see you at the game Saturday. Really miss those Friday Night Central/Grundy football match-ups. I think elhosel will be wandering around somewhere too. I hope the Central fans do not underestimate the Lady Jackets. I believe they have played together awhile and for sure will bring a physical style of play to the Round House. We do have AC, works great outside the gym but with the crowd just will not keep up.....Get there early! We
  14. Dyer was a very good player. Seemed like he was at Sequoyah for like 6 years. With Berrong's departure as offensive coordinator will affect the offense too. With that big fullback coming back and big, experienced OL, the Chiefs will be just fine on offense.
  15. Roundhouse will be rockin! Can Grundy withstand the defensive pressure? The "house" is a tough place to play during playoff time. In the past few years, it has been Upperman or Livingston Academy visiting Central. Does Grundy have enough playoff experience?
  16. McMinn Central is playing really well. Very deep team that plays great defense.
  17. Agree Completely! The whole state grows will benefit from greater participation. sure it waters down the state qualifier role.. But the goal is state champ not state qualifier!!! Greater numbers and opportunies to achieve that!!! I am for growth!!!
  18. If increasing the number of kids participating in wrestling, I can see where going to a "small school" individual state championship would be a big plus. The arguement is always going to come from the hardliners and purest that the state championship will have a diminished status. How many kids never get an opportunity to participate in wrestling at all. Wrestling is such a great sport that needs to be expanded statewide.
  19. Are there any facts to back up this statement or is this some third or fourth hand information? I have known Coach Hart for many years in the worst of times and the best of times around Central athletics. Over the years he has encouraged seniors to play even those who did not play in previous years. Most of the time he has conducted tryouts to determine who can play and who can not. There are just not as many senior males particpating in all sports not just baseball. I know that the best teams Coach Hart has fielded always had plenty of seniors. Some were starters and some were role players. Baseball is a sport that sometimes if you do not participate, you can suffer from diminished skill levels that could be detrimental to top performance. Lots of reason there are no seniors on this year's team but I highly doubt the claim made here.
  20. A strict enforcement on attending school in the zone where you live will have far reaching effects on all of high school atheletics in Hamilton County as well as East Tennessee. It has been my understanding that Hamilton County always had zones but it really operated like an "open zone" because it was never enforced anyways. Even before NCLB, athletes would attend schools outside their zone as long as they provided thier own transportation. I applaud Rick Smith to taking this step when the opportunity presented itself. Take that 3/4 million dollars you saved and upgrade the facilities in the inner-city.
  21. That is interesting. Will they be changing the scheme? Passing more?
  22. You are right. I think the loss of the QB will be huge
