  1. Where would he have gone to? It is important to relate to the kids and the parents, but there is alot more that goes into being a head coach
  2. Hey Oldcat89, whats the news since you got back from spring break?
  3. I can guarantee you Baker is concerned or he would have already hired one of the Assts. Personal feelings? not sure what that is about. In my opinion, He is trying to get the best MAN for the job!!! If Mr. Roberts is the same one that was once a coach and then principal, although I have alot of respect for him, Wasnt his first hire the boys basketball coach (Perkinson) nuff said!!!!!!
  4. From what i was told..... The principal interviewed more than one Friday and there were alot of applicants from everywhere. Looks like they have plenty to choose from this time. Good Luck on the coaching search
  5. There is no doubt he is qualified....... But why would he be interested in the Meigs job? He is from Memphis and living in Meigs Co is TOTALLY different than living in Memphis.
  6. Albert Means........ the DL that played at Alabama and then transferred to University of Memphis? Where did that come from?
  7. Dont know if they are interested, but contact was made with Spencer Riley and Brad Bennett
  8. Sorry mr whistle I'm not in the list speculation business. Some of the names you listed, Baker, Martin, Hampton, no way they will ever be back. As for the new names, only the man doing the hiring knows for sure. Howard wanted to come to Meigs early in his career but was rejected. I think that decision will bite Meigs for a long time. Well, you can forget about Howard coming. If he was going to come, it would have been for the head baseball job. He has it made at Mcminn, He is not going anywhere. I am sure Mr. Baker will make the right choice. I hope the best for Meigs Co. , I have always had alot of respect for Meigs Co and Coach Baker
  9. As for Baker,Martin and Hampton. That was just speculation, that is why I put in my original post that Martin would probably not because of money, Baker would probably not because he is a administrator. Hampton is probably a long shot. The other names on the list are legit. I Think Baker will get the right man for the job, whoever it may be.
  10. Howard would be a good choice. But, that is not going to happen.
  11. Well...... Lets see your list "Tiger Pride"?
  12. Someone with ties to Maryville? That would be Nick White- former head coach at Lenoir City, current asst at Maryville. I think that would be great choice, he has applied before. His wife is from Meigs Co. Young, energetic and has off coordinator and head coaching experience
  13. Here are some names on the rumor mill............. Spencer Riley-former UT player and recommended by Jeff Smith(former meigs grad and UT, pro player). Brad Bennett- Current Mcminn Defensive Coordinator, Mike Martin-former Meigs coach(probably wont come because of money), Ricky Holliday-current meigs defensive Coordinator, Matt Hampton-former Meigs Asst and current Rhea Co Asst., Clint Baker-former Meigs Head Coach and current principal( School boards always frown on administrators being coaches) but i think with his son coming up in a few years he would think about it. In my opinion, He is one the best coaches to ever coach at meigs, plus he is a good man.
  14. I am so glad its football season!!!! What makes it even better is the High School rivalry games. I havent seen either team play but knowing the tradition Meigs has, they are going to be ready to play. I think it will be close at the start but i think central has too much talent and speed for it to stay close long. I know people from meigs and i know people from central, they are both good people who love their schools. This is a good rivalry that has been heated up over the summer, in which i dont agree with a kid who is a leader on a team that transfers to the rival. but it is his(or parents?) choice. I hope it doesnt get out of hand and i hope the adults in the stands dont embarass themselves and act like adults. The kids just need to play football and hit each other until the whistle blows and go back to the huddle and do it again, that is football.
  15. I havent seen OR, but seen Bradley Fri night. Cleveland scored 24 points off of turnovers. They have improved and have some very talented skill players, if they can keep from turnig it over they can make a game of it.
  16. I think if Martin was still there it would be different, not saying Eller is a bad coach but where meigs is hurting is a experienced QB. If Martin is still there Rayl is to. That would have made this game a good one. Just keep in mind, all those years Meigs was beating Central, a few of those years when Meigs was more talented Central still kept it close. This is a rivalry game anything can happen!!!!!!!
  17. I hear a couple of guys from Georgia & N.Carolina have applied, a former head Coach who is retired has also applied and had an interview (dont think that is a good idea). Nick White-former head coach at Lenior City and now an asst. at Maryville has had an interview. Holliday, a current asst. has had an interview. This is what i hear from my source
  18. The big question is-How many games will "the fuming Coach Hart " get ejected this season?
  19. Has anyone heard anything? It has been pretty quite up there. I called a couple i know and they didnt know anything
  20. 1. Howard- A lot coming back, speed, and all big games are at home 2. Polk- always disciplined, hard nosed players. they know how to win, well coached -tie- 2. Central- this is all according on if Jackson plays next year? if not, they wont make the playoffs. 3. Meigs- Tradition, good qb in rayl, they will be young but still have good skill players. How will they adapt to a new coach? 4. East Ridge- You may think im crazy, but coach Martin will make that big of a difference, they have athletes, questionable at QB though? 5.Notre Dame- Dont really know, they could be in the top 3, just going on last year -tie- 5. Sequoyah- Watch out for this young team, they will upset someone this year. They have some athletes 6. Grundy- If they stay with the veer. hard offense to defend. they can be competitive. dont know how much they have coming back. 7. Tellico- Its just hard to win up there, they need numbers ( thats my opinion as of now. I may be way off, who knows in this crazy region?)
  21. I dont even know if he is an option. But i hear his wife teaches in Meigs and his kids play ball up there. Dont you think if he had an opportunity to get a Head Coaching job there, he would take it? Is he even ready to be a Head Coach?
  22. I dont know, but i dont think it will come within the current staff. Meigs has a good young staff but not ready for a head coaching position. I think they need to go outside and get a young but experienced coach, to me a coach needs to be a coordinator before he is an head coach, because of the organization that it requires as a coordinator helps prepare them for a HC Position. This is tough decision for Baker. Here are some names in our area to consider-Matt Hampton-Rhea (was an asst. at Meigs before-but unsure if he is ready or even interested) Jason Howard-Mcminn(Meigs grad, but is head baseball coach at Mcminn-a big long shot) Brad Bennett-Bradley(DC at Mcminn 3-4yrs ago when def was great, everybody says he is one of the best def coaches in area-is he interested?) or does Baker come back? very unlikely
  23. Playing experience? Come on now, if you knew Bo so well, you would know Bo played college baseball and not football. The only experience he has was at Mcminn. I say that to say this, playing college football doesnt make you a good coach, it does help, but it doesnt automatically make you a good coach. Heath Davis played one year at Mcminn Central and is considered by alot of coaches as a great coach. Mcminn Co. politics Dept. oops i mean athletic dept has made a mistake and they will be the ones who have to answer for it. They passed on 2 great christian men and great football coaches (Bennett & Smith) for a political hire. Cagle may be successful at Mcminn, but i hope he is more successful at being a christian example to these kids off the field as well on it. that is what we need in coaches today. I wish him the best of luck
  24. If he (Cagle) wants to come back so bad, Why isnt he already an asst at Mcminn. Besides,If he dont get the job at Mcminn he has already got a job at Walker Valley. But, i would say he and Hanynie get along pretty good, knowing their personalities. Don't worry (football4me) your buddy will get the job, it was a done deal from the start. Politics, Politics,Politics.
  25. Actually- ajw, I think most of Athens would agree with you. But, it is like Oskie1 said, Grubb and haynie are not going to hire someone who has left and wants to come back and I think it is a shame and very immature. I talked to a player the other day and he told me that most of the players he talked to wanted Bennett. but, did haynie and Grubb think to even seek their opinion, I am sure not. If i'm coaching at a school and I didn't feel good about the situation and a coach called me and offered a $10,000 raise, I think i would go, just as all of you would in your current job and Haynie and Grubb would too. My source tells me that Bennett before he left, went to Grubb,Haynie, and all the coaches including Daughtery and sat down with them and explained the situation and told them that he didnt want to burn any bridges and that he wanted to come back someday. I dont know how he is today, but when he was here before, he was a great christian man and a great football coach and also I hear the same thing about Smith. But, trust me Bo Cagle will be named Head Coach and in 3 yrs he will move on somewhere else if he is successful or if he fails, he will move on and be an asst. somewhere. And honestly i think that is where he belongs (asst). Someone could call Haynie and tell him how you feel, But i would say he is too busy looking in the mirror at himself. That is what this is all about HIM, not Mcminn Co.
