  1. Jefferson County and Seymour have two games scheduled for the same day April 23 @ 530. I thought I had the ability to edit this last year but somehow cannot this year. This is not a double header. thanks
  2. Guys you must understand. This Top 10 is set by the TSCA. It is a new High School Coaches association and they only vote on schools that are members of the organization. I agree there are some questionable honorees in this poll, but remember this poll is based on who gets the most votes from members, thus it not reflect the actual results because there are teams that are not represented. My suggestion, get your coaches to sign up and get involved, I know Ive been trying to get ours to.
  3. I understand how this list is populated and I think starting a coaches association equal to the basball association is great, but the final top ten will probably only have two of these teams in it in AAA. Beech and Maryville
  4. thank you JCMS red and JCMS blue, Granger middle, Cocke County Middle, , and Sevier. We have 5 teams and are looking for at least 3 more
  5. Looking for teams for the 3rd Annual JCHS Middle School Softball Classic. This event will be held at Jefferson County High School March 15th and 16th. Entry fee $60. Format will be round robin and single elimination. For more information please contact Stacy Hill 865-850-4488. Spots are limited so please contact ASAP!!! Looking forward to another great tournament
  6. Randi Hill, junior Jefferson County High School, .623 ERA for 2012 season. AAA facing schools like Seymour (state AAA qualifier), Daniel Boone AAA runner up to Soddy Daisy, Gibbs AA state winner(beat them twice), Morristown east(highest scoring offense in tn 2012, beat them 4 times only allowing one run total in all games)
  7. Yeah, but you wouldnt get out of your car wearing stilts everyday now would you. Rediculous? tell that to the 17 year old kid who lost her ability to attend college because her family without that scholarship money couldnt afford to send her. i will not use names but saw this situation happen. Bakldnbeautiful I completely agree about the bats, but more important may be the balls. 47 core and 525 lb compression. Fastpitch is the only roundball sport with this distinction. Adult ASA mens slowpitch has changed to a 300 lb compression ball due to injury rate. The injuries Ihave mentioned were not due to conditions they were due to grip. I have seen two career ending injuries, one where the athlete planted in a run down the excessive grip of the metal cleat allowed NO traction loss and snapped her knee completely the other a slide at third base where the cleat hung and snapped both bones at the ankle. Note that these are minors and we as the adults/parents should be protecting them from potential injury where possible. Athletics are always going to include injury, that is unavoidable. I am just saying why expose them to the extra risk at that age. Is that extra tenth off the time around the basepath worth it? Any kid/athlete would say yes because they want to be the best, compete at the highest level. thats why we are the adults, not to decrease they're competitiveness but their longevity in the sport they love. Hind site is 20/20. When the aches and pains of competition creep up on you as an adult should it be because every ligament in your knee is missing from a high school softball game? I love this sport but more importantly the young ladies that I have had the good fortune to coach over the last 20 some odd years.
  8. Congrats to all, seems preseason picks were very close to being accurate. Good luck Seymour Lady Eagles as you persue another state title bid and great season to my Lady Pats who fell just short at Boone the other night. With that said has anybody seen the All-District tournament team and individual awards. Cant seem to find em anywhere
  9. Great game last night. Miscues in the bottom of the 6th cost JCHS dearly. JCHS gets winner of 1AAA game monday at winners field.
  10. Ready for another great IMAC season!!!! Seymour hasnt lost anything coming into this season so they should be the ones to beat (finished 5th in the state last year). M'town East should be in the hunt as well as they are a Senior laden team. South Doyle should be returning pretty stout this year, will have to wait and see how the pitching staff shows up after the loss of the their starting pitcher. Cherokee has at least four very talented players and as always will put a dent in somebodies fender before its all over.Jeff County after being pretty dominnant over the last few years and picked to enter the fray at the bottom of the heap, just above Sevier County, will have to overcome the loss of almost the whole starting team, but will have some solid talent and may have something to say aboutnthe whole thing before its all said and done. I expect this season to be a brawl for in the middle of the pack. East and Seymour better play at the top of their games to earn their pre-season favs. Cherokee, South Doyle, M'town West, and Jeff County will battle for their respective spots with Cocke County huntin everybody down. Sorry Smoky bears but hard to see much of an improvement for you this year, I do wish you well and hope to see your program gain strides.
  11. Plainly stated, Why dont TSSAA keep their noses out the athletes business when they are not on a TSSAA roster. It would make life so much easier for our teenagers. They are not interested in all the bell and whistles and hoops you have to jump through, they just wanna play ball and get better.
  12. So we are willing to exchange the health of an athlete (potentially career ending, or life changing) for the extra costs of a set of cleats, interesting. I am not saying metal cleats are the Devil, but why would we expose athletes to a greater risk? I agree female athletes are more prone to injuries to the joints, why increase that potential?
  13. Yes, school coaches can coach in the summer, with the following exception. They cannot be in contact with high school athletes during the specified "dead weeks" generally the two weeks around July the 4th.
  14. In the summer you can have 50 kids on the same team from one school if you want. During the "school year" you can have "5" from the same school but no more.
  15. 50% Rule – Applies to basketball, baseball, and softball. Participation (includes practice or games) during the school year on a non-school team prior to the school season by students that will play the following season on the high school team is limited to 50% of the number of players required to play the game (3 in basketball, 5 in baseball, 5 in girls softball). Only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team prior to the school season may be placed on the high school eligibility list the following season. Those students cannot be interchanged on the school’s team roster. Once again i post this in disgust. TSSAA does not tell you ckild cannot play during the school year, just the are not eligible to play that sport if they do. How they feel they can dictate the participation of a student trying to improve thier skills while not on a TSSAA roster defies belief. If that child was participating on another school sport at the same time they were participating in a non- school related team it would be understandable, but they are limiting their ability to improve while not on a TSSAA roster. Its legal because they dont say they cant just they cant participate in their sanctioning body if they do. Incredible, no wonder our athletes stuggle to compete for scholarship dollars with athletes from other states as they do not have such regulations.
  16. As usual things change and nobody likes it not even me. I have seen several devastating injuries since the change to metal cleats some career ending. I think now the girls are learning to go in "cleatsup" which reduces the injury rate for the offensive player and reduces the severity of possible injuries, although a well placed cleat in the shin hurts it usually does not break anything. The injury rate has and will fall as the girls become usedd snap to them. I watched a young lady snap her knee trying to stop in a run down. I was sitting down the third base line when she turned for home and planted to turn back and saw her knee twist and snap. One of the most gruesome things Ihave seen in high school sports. Unfortunately it ended her career as she was a catcher and no longer had the flexability after surgery to get up and down effeciantly enough for the next level. The only advantage these cleats give is in bad field conditions.
  17. More frogs, more frogs Lance-a-lot, Its raining cats and frogs today, will the weather let us play today or is it a frog strangler (sorry for the poor attempt, couldn't resist). We will miss the she-devils, but ohh! what fun we will have with the newbies. South Doyle and Seymour will make it a more interesting season, they are competitive to say the least. I know its early, but does anyone know how the Dist. tourney will play out with 8 teams. In the past #1 and #2 got bys while the other 4 played to get to them. Will everyone have to play round one now or will the bottom feeders (tadpoles) still have the one and done senario. Looks like a double or single elimination the only way to resolve, not a mix as in the past, unless you send 4 home in the first round and let the remianing 4 play out double elimination.
  18. Nobody missing JC#1fan? I have been sitting in the wings, watching, waiting, and I just can't take it anymore. What happened to JCHS giving up 8 to SDHS? 1st, Smoky Bears Tuesday, pulled starters after 2 innings and the second string still layed it down. I was afraid the competition level difference between SCHS and SDHS would show Wednesday and it did. (JCHS put 11 on the board in the first inning) Its gonna be a long season for SCHS in the IMAC. 2nd 5 errors in one inning just to give SDHS a chance. 3rd I don't know whats third, but something had to happen, it just went crazy in the sixth inning, must have been bad juju, carma, or blindblueitis. SDHS has solid pitching and JCHS still put 10 on them (score most likely 10-3 without errors). Thats 41 runs in first 4 regular season games, only giving up 9. JCHS went the Commando Classic and showed very well for themselves even though they took two beatdowns they went 3-2 for the weekend against competition like Blackman, Ravenwood, Goodpasture, Station Camp, and Beech. Anyone in the the know, knows that is stiff competition exspecially for one weekend. The bats have come out of their slumber at JCHS, only three strikeouts on the weekend for them. Seymour second? Thats very enthusiastic, but don't forget they already lost to South Doyle and then there is M'town West and JCHS to consider. Lady Eagles will make their dent in the IMAC before its all said and done, but second? The old crystal ball cracked a smile at that one, wait a minute maybe its just cracked. Sevier, South Doyle, Seymour welcome to the I-SMACK. As for predictions I am a little iffy, but here goes. East, Jefferson 1 or 2, flip a coin, JCHS is hittin also this year. 3. Seymour, M'West may have something to say about that. 4 M'West 5 South Doyle. 6 Cocke County. 7 Cherokee (sorry Chiefs, I hope I am wrong). 8 Sevier County 9 Greene County (just kidding) good luck, good luck where ever you are. We won't miss the trips aroung the duckpond. With all said, good luck to all our beloved IMAC athletes. To the newcomers a very, very warm welcome you will learn to take my comments in stride as others do I hope. I really do hope the best for all these young ladies and lets remember to encourage and congradulate all as they strive to be the best. JCHS RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Interesting post. The rules are clear, participation in non-game situations are allowed. The thing we must consider is if athletics is about the individual or the team. Unfortunately most emphasize the indivdual. Why would anyone with any character jeopardize the success of their team. If they are not part of the "team" they should not play high school ball. If they decide to play high school ball they should remain loyal to that commitment and not take the chance of causing their respective high school team the embarrasment of forfieting games already decided. Comes down to parenting if you ask me, self or others you decide what makes a better person in the long run.
  20. 4.JC#1fan - Stacy Hill. What an insult. Surely JCfan has more insight than that. By the way add this one to the list. newbutold?
  21. The differance between pitchers in the summer and in High School is the level to which they are expected to perform. Teaching a catcher to call a pitch and when a pitcher should shake a pitch off is somethng they should learn in high school, unfortunately most high school coaches don't know themselves and the majority of times that they let the catcher call pitches is to take a little pressure off themselves. Coaches calling pitches in high school can result from two different aspects. (1) they are more confident in their ability than their catchers ability and (2) they are not confident at all in their ability. Coaches like Gene Ward at Chuckey-Doak know the game and what it takes to compete. Knowing the pitching scheme is the responcibilty of the "battery", but even in college most coaches call the pitch selections.
  22. individual performance per game. Team going 4-0 in pool has nothing to do with it. If your coach and or other coaches of pool teams do not vote for the same kid every game and a Team that goes 0-4 has a kid that gets votes for every game the kid on the 0-4 team gets the most votes and is on the all-tournament team. It is not all about individual excellance per game, but consistancy through the tournament. Obviously a team that is winning may not have a "standout" player that gets noticed every game, but a group of players that excell together.(probably why they are 4-0 in pool). However a school going 0-4 probably has a player that "stands out" every game and thus gets noticed. Winning teams may have greater numbers of talented athletes, but that does not mean they have the single most talented athlete. Most importantly though this is a team sport. Team success should always be more important than personal accolades. If an athlete on your team didn't get enough votes the first person I would talk to would be the head coach of your team, half of the votes possible were cast by them, the other four votes were split between four different people. Think about it if your coach votes for the same person every game and the other coaches all vote for another individual (highly unlikely) it is still a tie. Be proud of 4-0 thats great. I agree it is unfortunate that a team may go 4-0 in pool and possibly not win an elimination game and go home empty handed, but it is the essance of competition. Sometimes no matter what you do or how hard you try things don't go your way. Learning how to deal with that is one of the most important things you may learn in your youth. Life lessons are the greatest part of sport and should be why we let our kids play the game.
  23. Sounds like a great tourney this year. Prognosticater must be broken, although I didn't miss it to bad (Unicoi got to East one round to early). Amazed that Cherokee was able to beat Gate City with the four elders of the tribe absent from the pow wow. Gate City is usually tough, guess IMAC is tougher! Unicoi, East, Elizabethton, and Cherokee now that's a final four. Great job IMACians. And as always congradulations to UNICOI. I got people I consider family from Flagpond by the way.
  24. I hope I'm wrong as well. After my Lady Pats, IMAC reigns supreme in my heart. East should cruise until they meet the Blue Devils, but if you have seen Unicoi this year they are amazing. Outscoring their opponants 112 to 4, including victories over Cherokee 6-1 and twice over Volunteer(a perinial powerhouse which has beat Science Hill 2 times this year) 10-0 and 2-0. Other wins include 13-0 whippin against West Greene and a win over Elizabethton 3-1. It will take an exceptional pitching performance from Mrs. Wilmouth and show the ability to score against a team that has given up only 4 runs in 14 games. That makes this potential game a tall order for anybody, but if anyone can do it, it will the Lady Canes.
