  3. The game organizers select the head coaches each year. We try to reward the coaches that turned in outstanding seasons with their high school teams. Once the head coaches are finalized, the coaches own staffs and go to work contacting other coaches to pick the players. The rosters are completely picked by the coaches themselves.
  4. No, the game did not get cancelled due to bad blood or anything else. The game is alive and well and will be played on Saturday night. Some of us that work with the game have different jobs/different hours now and not able to cover the practices as well as we would like. Stump is also tied up with his new job as Director of Athletics for the city of Rossville (Ga.) so he's been pulled in different directions too. Luckily, the coaches involved are very involved and been a huge help. We're anticipating a great game. Each roster has its share of big-name athletes. Ought to be a great game. You won't see 41-0 again. Tennessee just had too many athletes last year and Georgia didn't have anyone that could hang with them. Not the case this time.
  5. I'm hoping to get finalized rosters up online before the end of the day. I have Georgia's already.
  6. After spending the past three years at Chattanooga??™s Finley Stadium, the Hardee??™s Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Football Classic is headed back to where it started. Ridgeland High School, home of the inaugural Classic in 2004, will play host to the sixth annual game on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. Pregame introductions will begin at 7 p.m. The annual border battle will pit recent high school graduates from a dozen counties in Southeast Tennessee against their counterparts in Northwestern Georgia. Tennessee took a 3-2 lead in the all-time series after a dominating 41-0 performance at Finley Stadium a year ago. "This game is a true rivalry with a playoff atmosphere," game originator Stump Martin said. "For some it??™s a step towards a college career and to others it??™s the final time they will ever play football." This year??™s rosters are a collection of athletes that could be the best to ever play in the Classic??™s history. Tennessee??™s offense will be led by former Grace Academy quarterback Josh Blake, who was injured for part of his senior season but amassed 2,700 all-purpose yards and accounted for 37 touchdowns as a junior. Former Ooltewah running back Matthew Polk (1,864 yards, 26 TDs) will join Blake in the backfield, along with the speedy Deonte Lindsey (Bradley Central), Monte Scotton (Cleveland) and quarterbacks Nic Hughes (Boyd-Buchanan) and Patrick Moore (Chattanooga Central). Up front, Tennessee will receive blocking from the likes of Tyler Watson (Baylor), Andrew Lane (Franklin County), Mark Hill (Ooltewah), Cole Webster (Boyd-Buchanan) and Gavin Fox (McCallie). The Volunteer State??™s defense is highlighted by Chattanooga signee Gunner Miller. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker led East Ridge with 140 tackles in 2008 while picking off two passes. He also rushed for over 700 yards and scored seven touchdowns at fullback for the Pioneers. Other names to watch for on the Tennessee defense include Miguel Sanchez, Orlando Gordon and B.J. Jones (Red Bank), Ben Boggess (McMinn Central), Dylan Peterson (Polk County), linebackers Kai Caton-Harris (Cleveland), Seth Emery (Boyd-Buchanan) and Todd Worley (Hixson), and kicking specialists Josh Davis (Rhea County) and Stephen Stansell (McMinn County). Team Georgia will boast its share of talented players as well. Headlining the Peach State squad will be University of Alabama signee Michael Bowman (Ridgeland), arguably the most highly recruited athlete to ever play in the Classic. Bowman, ranked one of the nation??™s top 20 receivers, was a first-team All-State selection after catching 36 passes for 1,022 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. Bowman??™s former Panther teammate, running Terryl Freeman, finished his senior season with 1,176 yards and 10 scores while the backfield will also include future Shorter College back P.J. Greene, another All-State pick from Rome, who had 1,665 yards and 24 scores this past fall. Georgia??™s offense will also include quarterback Brian Owens (Cass), tight end Michael Roberson (Ridgeland), and tailbacks Trevarious Washington (Sonoraville) and Steven Washington (Rome). In the trenches, Georgia will be led by Alabama State signee Chad Smith (Ridgeland), Corey Pritchett (Murray County), Caleb Johns and Jonathan Benton (Gordon Central) and Damien Goosby (Rome). Eastern Kentucky signee Devin Gainer (Ringgold) will anchor the Georgia defensive line. He will receive support from Shorter signee Kyle Farmer (Gordon Lee), Cedric Weaver and Genesis Dupree (Ridgeland), linebackers Matt Talkington (Ringgold) and Logan Fields (LFO) and defensive backs Desmond Clarke (Rome) and Darius Walton (Ridgeland). This year??™s coaches will be Cleveland??™s E.K. Slaughter and Ringgold??™s Robert Akins. Slaughter, who recently took the head-coaching job at Cleveland, led an amazing turnaround at Soddy-Daisy in his first and only season with the Trojans in 2008. The Trojans, who had won three total games in the previous two seasons, went 8-4 this past fall, upsetting both Red Bank and Oak Ridge before falling in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to eventual state semifinalist Ooltewah, 17-6. Akins will be coaching in his third All-Star Classic, but his first as head coach of Team Georgia. He led Tennessee to a win in the inaugural game at Ridgeland and suffered a defeat the following year in East Ridge. Akins built Boyd-Buchanan into a small school powerhouse in Tennessee, advancing to three straight Class A title games and claiming one championship before taking over at Ringgold High School in 2007. His Tigers overcame a season-ending preseason injury to starting quarterback Zac Fairchild to advance to the Region 6-AAA playoffs last fall. Tickets to the game will be $8 per person.

  11. The victim has apparently forgiven him, according to the stories that have been written. If she can, the rest of us should be able to as well. Sounds like he has grown up a lot since he was a 13 year-old kid. Are we never supposed to let him have a chance to prove he's turned his life around?
  12. Coleman looks really, really good. No surprise though. Should have been the starter last year, but he wasn't Fulmer's guy. He was Cut's
  13. Gordon Lee is 5-5 this year. Overall talent level is down compared to what it's been the last 8 or 9 years, but still some good players. A tough schedule so far this season might help the Trojans this weekend.
  14. The Scout.com Top 300 just came out today and Smith is a 5-star prospect. The no. 3-ranked DE prospect in the nation for the Class of 2010 and the No. 22 overall prospect in the country. Smith has already committed to the University of Tennessee.
  15. Jefferson (Ga) beat LaFayette (Ga) in the finals, 35-28. Jefferson is ranked No. 1 in 2A while LaFayette is No. 1 in 3A.
  16. Lafayette 39, Cleveland 26 LaFayette 58, McCallie 15
  17. Can anyone post a schedule for this tournament?
  18. TC may win, but there will not be a "beatdown" put on SP. Speed kills. TC is fast, but SP is faster. Pirates by 3
  19. I guarantee the wreath came from an MC coach. Oldest trick in the book. No bias here, but having watched these two teams all year, it will be a good one. Both have had great seasons and it's good to see Marion Co. football back at a high level. But Boyd is the better team. Hughes will play in this one and Bucs' line will be too much for the Warriors in the end. Boyd 24, Marion 14
  20. Fish sandwiches at Tyner. There is no comparison.
  21. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but it sounds like me like some of you are saying it's classless to run up the score, but you seems ok with taking out a member of the opposing team during a blowout, or an "accidental injury" as some have put it. What's more classless in your opinion? Running up the score or purposely trying to injury a kid, maybe permanently. I'm not advocating running up the score, but you know what? It's the job of the offense to score and the job of the defense to stop them from scoring.
  22. This is the biggest game in Region 3-1A this year. Winner should have the easy track to the No. 2 spot and get homefield for the first round of the playoffs. Neither team will beat South Pitt.
  23. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I'm really pulling hard for RBS. Those kids, those fans and that community need a win.
  24. The difference last year was the Red Bank duo of Benford and McDuffie. Davis and Parks will be the difference this year. They might be the top two playmakers in the region, then you throw in Scotton, Titpon, a solid O-line and a good defense. Cleveland should win the region, based on what they have returning. Red Bank will be better than people think and will fight it out with Rhea County for second. Hixson and Brainerd will battle for fourth.
