  1. Watching three scrimmages and a Jamboree, it is clear to me that the Rebels have shown very little intensity. While there is much talent among the seniors, if these seniors don't get it together, leadership wise, it will be a long year. Unless enthusiasm and intensity shows up Friday, I predict the Red Devils will put an end to the streak. It's not personal toward any of them individually, but these seniors run the risk of not only being known for the end of the streak, but also be known as the team that ended the dominance of the 4A division. Regardless who is at fault, the lack of leadership seems glaring to me. I hope they prove me wrong!
  2. According to the Daily Times in the May 20, 2006 edition, "Enrollment trends reported Friday show 1,526 students, with 446 being tuition students. There's not always space for the tuition students, who come from outside Alcoa city limits." My comment - This more like 30% not 10%. In the November 29, 2006 edition, the Daily Times reported, "The school (Alcoa city) charges $400 per student and has 459 tuition students." My comment - So, the number of tuition students had actually gone up for the 2006 - 2007 school year. Granted these numbers may have changed slightly in the last 18 months and the numbers reflect the whole school system, not just the high school. However, to say "less than 10%" at the high school is entirely inaccurate!
  3. BTW, he wasn't "held back" but he still 14 going on 30. He's that mentally mature. Talking to him is like talking to an adult. Must be all that deer huntin that's made him so mature.
  4. This is the most typically "holding back for athletics" that most of those "jealous of MHS" folks won't (or can't) understand. I agree with your parents wholeheartedly. BYW, the MHS freshman scrimmage Farragut freshman today at MHS. I'm not sure of the time. Do you know?
  5. He doesn't want to answer with a rule quote because he doesn't have one. He continues to skate around the specific question. He must be a preacher or a politician.
  6. I'm just saying that if a parent decides to do it for athletics at any school, I don't have a problem with it and, in fact, if the TSSAA had a real problem with it, the maximum age for players as of Aug 1 (at the beginning of the school year) would be lowered from 18 to 17. A player can turn 19 anytime AFTER Aug 1 and still be eligible to participate in HS sports. It is a fact, according to experts, that kids mature physically and mentally at different rates....usually + or - 2 years. I agree that it would be very hard to predict at age 5 whether a child will succeed in sports, but holding the child back certainly won't decrease his/her chances. Sending "a very young one" on MIGHT decrease those chances for success academically, socially and/or athletically, but a parent couldn't know for sure till much later. You are right that it probably has not hurt your son, but someone else’s son may be much further behind on the maturation curve with the same birthday as your son. This matter is obviously is not one size fits all so I refuse to criticize those who do it. (BTW, I didn't do it either with any of my boys)
  7. There is little doubt that, on occasion, kids are held back or started later for various reasons, including athletics. 'thedumbestpersonalive" posted that generally "ALL" males who show athletic prowess are held back. This is simply not true. BTW, holding a kid back for athletics is NOT WRONG, IMO. Holding a kid back might be the difference between a college scholarship or not. That's a lot of money and if holding a kid back improves the chance of scholarship and might be the difference in being able to even go to college or not, I'm for it at ANY school.
  8. You say "Generaly every male student who is potentialy athletic is placed in Junior primary" (my bold). This couldn't be further from the truth. In a freshmen football class of 52 players, a "few" went the JP route....not "generally every male who is potentially athletic ". I was not offended. I was just correcting your incorrect portrayal. Like I said, I know most of these kids and their birthdays. In youth sports, the baseball age cutoff is different from the football age cutoff is different from the basketball age cutoff is different from the AAU age cutoff. There are many more answers than the one you spread.
  9. Amazingly ignorant statements. Very few attend Junior Primary....If they do go the JP route, it's usually those with summer birthdays. With almost no exceptions, the best players at MHS today are playing in the normal grade/age....I know all these juniors and seniors and actually know the months they were born. As for "potentially athletic" at age 5...give me a break. More ignorant spewing form the uninformed.
  10. Beg to differ regarding who's more athletic. Have you ever seen Thompson play basketball, wrestle (probably his best sport which he gave up for basketball) or play soccer? IMHO, Thompson may be the MOST athletic.......(and I'm a Rebel and president of the Chris Jordan fan club.)
  11. Rebelsman, Maybe Sarg needs to meet Bldrunner for a cold drink to see who the real girl is. That might be entertaining! Oldrebel
  12. Somebody took him to the woodshed, but I think they hit him the head rather than somewhere else!
  13. I expect poor judgment on occasion from a kid, but correction has to come from someone the kid respects. However, you are quite funny and entertaining. I just think this kid is having fun with you and you fall for it.
  14. Nathan Miranda, Dalton Curtis, Joseph Watson, Jay Yoakum, Timmy Koons....
  15. I'm old but we called this "tattling" when I was growing up. It's also amazing to me that you told the kid since he was a player that you would not argue with him. Then you continued to argue with him for several more posts. It's getting hard to believe you Bldrunner.
  16. You posted earlier "I will send your Post to GQ, I am sure he is not opposed to you doing some running even on a Sunday." Sure sounds like at threat to me!
  17. Clayton Shell...another great Rebel youth ball product. (He had great coaching 7-10-years-old.) /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  18. It was really his 9 and 10-year-old coach that set him apart from the rest of the pack.
  19. Moreover, the school board banned ALL flag poles (unless, of course, you are from Alcoa and want to burn a Rebel Flag..then you can have one of those dangerous poles). They also banned all "artificial" noise makers (unless, of course, you are the visting fans). The bottom line is that nothing they passed is enforced EXCEPT a Rebel Flag on a pole desplayed by a Home supported. I've never seen the ban otherwise enforced except on "home" folks. Pretty lame if you ask me. Mama Rebel has a Rebel Flag purse. (I wonder if they'll ban purses next)
  20. According to the quote from Lynn Brown in the Maryville-Alcoa Daily Times, Mr. Brown voted for the new plan and "Board members Mike Tribune of McGavock High School, Bryan True of Summertown, Chuck West of Dresden and Ike White of Memphis Hamilton voted against the newly approved plan, Brown said." "Mike Reed of Morristown West, Tommy Layne of Sequatchie County, Jerry Mathis of Tullahoma and Fred Kessler of Boliver Central joined Brown in voting for the Z-plan, he said."
