  1. I don't disagree with most of this article regarding DB, but using points allowed in region games as a tie breaker is very flawed too. First team defenses would rarely come of the field in region games no matter the score. If 2nd team defenses were inserted into a lopsided game and the opponent was about to score, the 1st team defense would get reinserted to keep points allowed to a minimum.
  2. It was dang cold in 2008 @Rhea County. That game was a lot closer than the 28-8 score. If memory serves me correct (it often doesn't), Rhea Co blocked a Maryville punt that Maryville picked up and ran for a TD or a long first down that led to a TD. There may have been a Maryville defensive score, too. Did I mention that it was dang cold. About 17 degrees. Some Rhea County fans had some propane heaters in the visitor stands.
  3. It was the first color 16mm film MHS ever filmed. Coach Story showed the video in the auditorium to the whole school a week or so after the game.
  4. We may need Greyriderx to back up the team if they's bringing guns.
  5. I'm with you. I like the chances of our coaches. There are lots of gold rings on the Rebels' staff.
  6. I was there and very close to the action. I was very impressed with the QB and think that he's pretty dang good. Very patient and sees the field well.
  7. Barn, if you are answering for the last time Maryville didn't make the semi-finals, the answer is 1999. They got beat by Central in the quarterfinals in GQ's first season.
  8. Plus no travel expense involved on the "away" game.
  9. WBHS's feeder programs were: Friendsville (gone), Lanier/Southside (gone), Fairiview (gone), WB Youth (never made it). All the feeder programs for William Blount are gone. I guess those kids interested in playing football before middle school will play in other programs. I expect Greenback youth to be a beneficiary.
  10. They need to get started early in January & February 2022 at the elementary and middle schools that feed WBHS.
  11. The only reason Alcoa isn't playing WB & Heritage is that those schools won't play Alcoa. Don't act like Alcoa doesn't want to play them.
  12. Wrong again. Must be more than one that went to Alcoa because I know one who doesn't work for the City of Maryville.
  13. Since the majority all of the Blount County referees went to Maryville or Alcoa, they'd probably be none left to referee the Maryville-Alcoa game.
  14. Wrong. Maryville "applied" to move up to the 32. It wasn't that a team declined and Maryville had to play up in the 32. When a team did decline, Maryville moved up. THEY CHOSE TO MOVE UP, unlike Alcoa. Maryville was 15 or 20 schools deep in the 5A. If any of those 15 or 20 had wanted to go up, they would have gotten priority over Maryville, but they didn't apply to go up. I agree that it was an effort to get the Rebels out of 6A and it didn't work. https://tricitiessports.com/tssaa-appears-ready-to-adopt-super-proposal-for-high-school-football-on-p71604-116.htm
  15. I hope they can pull it off, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do. League practice started July 19 so they are already behind. The earliest they could practice in full pads would be July 29th. Many of the players who had previously signed up for Fairview (and practiced at WBHS) have reportedly left for other teams already. With this late start, there may no be enough players left to pull it off. If they can't make it work this season, maybe they can plan ahead for 2022 spring to rebuild the youth program. Like I said, I hope they can pull it off!
  16. Yes JV is a go I hear, if they have enough. The younger teams have folded. Those kids will end up getting entrenched in other programs most likely, especially Greenback.
  17. Sad! I hate it. They were champions (Pee Wee division) four short years ago. Now, they appear to have folded the entire program. That's not good new for WBHS or WBMS. It may help Greenback.
  18. Maybe someone should tag the P.A. guy!
  19. Happy birthday! I was there for a while, but didn't venture around much.
  20. The kids have been painting themselves red and black for years and years at many games, not just Alcoa. Doing so has no relation to your inference. However, some have hijacked the red and black painting to mean something it was never related to. To say "No doubt what that tradition means" just shows and spreads ignorance to fit an agenda.
