  1. Not having seen Cocke County this fall I am hesitant to make my prediction. Be that as it may, Seymour is tough this year, as they showed Heritage last week. I don't want to hate of the Fighting Roosters, but I don't see them beating the Eagles, aspecially at Householder Memorial Stadium. I know that the team is in its second season with the new program, but an 0-10 season is tough to bounce back from(see Pigeon Forge). Let's say 35-6 Seymour.
  2. Halls wins. The week 0 game for SC will help withthe jitters and silly mistakes, however Halls is a pretty loaded team this year. I can't say that I have seen a faster Halls team in a long time. The Devils are starting to rebuild their program, the numbers look good for the next couple of years as well. Let's say 28-14, Bears score first, but the Devils take over from there.
  3. Wow, I just happened upon this thread and found out that this is THE place to be. OR is a school that has its pick of athletes from the Anderson County area, much like Maryville and Blount County. They are a contender(last year was full of injuries and disentions)year in and year out. Fulton has been the team of the 21st Century in 3A. The only weakness that Fulton has ever shown has been to AE(Stevens) and playing games early in the year. A couple of years ago they dropped 3 of their first games before righting the ship; which I think gives Oak Ridge a good shot this week. That being said...I am picking Fulton to win by 12. I think that the trend started by Catholic last week(beating a higher classification team) will be prevelant in the next few years before the re-alignment and both teams move up. I think that Fulton's athletes will come out early with scores and Black's "put everyone on the line and blitz" defense will cause some turnovers.P.S. Leonard, stick to your guns. I always look forward to hearing your opinions on things and contrary to what some on this forum have said, I think that you bring an unbiased opinion and knowledgable picks when you post.
  4. I am still sticking with Gibbs on this one. First of all, I just enjoy the teams and schools that are found in Region 1, call me stupid, but I think that they are good bunch of schools. May I add at this time that Scott would be a good addition to the region. Second of all, the Eagles are coming off of a win. I know that it was a 1A school, but it could have been the Mary Esther Sisters of the Weak Fighting Footwashers(MESWFF), a win for that program to open the season is a HUGE shot in the arm. Gibbs seems to be running a form of the spread option, which if ran relativley well can bust open plays on teams that do not play assignment defense. I still think that Gibbs will win by 6, let's say 24-18.
  5. Great post ruse? I understand what you are talking about with the "recruitment" thing. I guess my feelings are a little old school, stick with the program that brought you up; if you were a Monarch in little league, you should be a Roadrunner in High School. I guess that kind of thinking dates back to the Medieval time period with Nobels and Serfs, times have changed(haha). I also agree that AE will be a tough team to beat this fall, probably 2nd in Region 2 behind Catholic. I don't know if it is the coaching, the kids, or the power lines but I remember when Catholic was playing at Evans-Collins and lost to Gibbs among other teams. Good luck to SM and give the Irish a run for it.
  6. Unaka is a smaller school and they were pretty good last year. However, I am going to give the edge to the Pats. I think if they can find the big TE and give the ball to that bowling ball of a running back they will win by 2 touchdowns.
  7. After last year's game I would think that that is a pretty good pick notright. If I was a Cherokee I would be pretty excited about getting a shot at a wounded Carter team this Friday night. I think that if SD can win this game it will give them a push that could end a 5-5 or better season. I think that the big ole linemen for SD need to be ready to push around the Hornets, that is the position that will determine the winner of the game. Whichever team's linemen stay fresh, are stronger, and keep the mess-ups to a minimum.
  8. Gibbs was 3-8 last season and went to the playoffs for the first time since the 1997 season. And yes, I do think that they are a pretty decent team. As I said, if Gibbs wins this week I will certainly say that they have improved. Back to the question at hand, I think that if Cosby runs the ball and is not intimidated by the Tigers' size they can win the game. However, if they are down about the loss to Gibbs the thought of playing another Region 1 3-A team may keep them from winning.
  9. Too early to tell. I know that Seymour had a pretty good game against their 5A team and Carter took one from their 5A team, but I think that Bearden is a much better team than Heritage. I have said since the preseason that Seymour is going to be a very good team this fall. They are returning a strong defense and they have a mobile QB...this was proven Friday when he had some big runs and the defense held tough. I earlier picked Carter to win the region, and in turn this game. I think that the winner of week 6 will be the one staying away from injuries(Seymour has had a problem with that the past few years) and if Carter can bounce back from the beating they took...or will they fold up shop. I will give a prediction closer to the game week.
  10. Congrats to the boys from the Plateau. It is great to see a "new" team start off with such a bang. I do think that the Cumberland County win was a great way to start a heated in-county rivaly. However, I do not think that the game prepared Stone for the fighting Irish of Cedar Bluff. Catholic has some great athletes from ALL over Knox county due to their luxury of being able to recruit. They gave a royal tail-whipping to a pretty darn good M-West team and will probably win Region 2 again. That being said, I think that if Stone can give a strong effort that they can be proud of it can give them the confidence to beat the lower-tier teams in the conference and have a great season. Good luck to Stone and keep those injuries away!
  11. I do hope that the returning of some key players will offset the loss of the others. I do think that the loss of #20 is much more important that some of you are thinking. Not only is he the running back, but he is a very good defensive back and kick returner. He is the closest thing to a playbreaker that Carter has on roster, and he is off the field at the moment. I am not saying that the Hornets can't beat South-Doyle this week, but I think that this is going to be a TOUGH game. Last year's team was a little better than what this year's has shown so far, and had SD not bumbled 5 or 6 turnovers(however many) the winning team may not have been green. Good luck Hornets and let's get in the W column. P.S. Carter Defense...stop the dive up the middle!
  12. Cosby lost to a pretty decent Gibbs team(we will see if Gibbs is actually better this week). Pigeon Forge lost to a team that was 0-10 last fall. PF gave up a bunch of rushing yards last week, so if Cosby can run the ball I think that they may be able to handle the Tigers. The Eagles will have to play better than they did against Gibbs, though.
  13. The green hornets did receive a bruising Friday and I do hope that the injuries are not season enders. I think that this season is going to rest on those players that have felt like they are not getting enough playing time. Every football team has those players that are right on the cusp of being starters, but have yet to make that final push. Those guys are going to be the ones that will either carry or drop Carter this fall. As for South-Doyle, I would say that they are licking their chops to get hold of Carter after a tail-whipping. This is an important game for their program, a win pushes them into a better place than they have been in a long time; therefore it is very dangerous game for Carter. I wish good luck to both teams.
  14. I agree with you eaglefan. Seymour from what I have read and heard looked pretty good against Heritage. I thought during the preseason that they were going to be the major power player in region 1-3A this fall and Friday night proved that. Seymour is returning most of their defense from last year and the quarterback is pretty mobile, even though he does need to complete a few passes. Good luck this week to the flying war eagles!
  15. Both Scott County and Gibbs are coming off week 1 wins. I would think that the edge goes with Gibbs. I have said that they are due a winning season and this was a good start. Cosby is a better team than what people think, they were 9-1 last season and play in a pretty tough region with Unaka, Hampton, and Cloudland. I think that the excitment of starting with a win will carry Gibbs over Scott...although that is a REAL long drive to Huntsville!
  16. Thanks for the information, I guess I will play with the tuner and see what I can find. Good luck to both teams and do the dance that keeps the injury bug away!
  17. ruse? or Leonard, are any of those games going to be shown on the internet. I have the unfortunate need to work on Fridays this fall and won't be able to see many games in person. However, I do have access to the internet. Please get back to me and let me know if I can either watch or listen to any of the games this week. Thanks.
  18. If South-Doyle can get their BIG linemen in game shape, I think that they can go 5-5. The non-region schedule has Carter, Gibbs, and Seymour; which are all winable games. I also think that the Kees can beat both Clinton and Lenoir City. That being said, if they don't get in a little better shape and make the plays that are right in front of them they may not win many at all. I wish luck to South-Doyle and good luck in week 2 against Carter, do some good scouting this Friday night!
  19. The only pass that I saw Halliday not complete was a dropped ball, not the passer's fault. I don't know if they could have scored 3 times in a quarter...but had they had an extra 2 minutes they might have I agree that this will be one of the toughest games, but I think that this year is a much tougher year. South-Doyle IS improved, no matter what others say. Karns will be ok, AE I think will be a very tough game. If the Hornets can survive and even win a couple of those non-region games, it will only make them stronger for the post-season. Good luck to the boys in green and I am excited about this Friday's game.
  20. If the Defense puts pressure on Bearden's QB, look out for the Hornets. I feel that there are enough athletes at Carter to put pressure on the QB throughout the game, this will cause some things to happen. Remember, this is both teams' first game so they will both be fighting the jitters. The special teams may actually be the answer for the winning team, remember how Carter started off the 2006 campaign. Go Hornets, don't take a play off and leave no doubt!
  21. Nice to see such healthy discussion! I was fortunate enough not to have to work this weekend so I was able to see both jamborees. Carter looked pretty good against a team that is picked to be 2nd in one of the hardest regions in the state. I thought that the defense gave up too many short plays on 3rd down, which lead to the blown coverage TD. I do think that they held their own. That being said, I thought that Bearden looked like a very good football team. The QB, in my opinion, is the best one in the Knoxville area right now. He is both a precise passer and a good scrambler, deadly in highschool football. I think that the Hornets will have their hands full trying to put pressure on the QB and contain him at the same time. I do hope that whatever "issues" are going on in The Plains do not distract the players and coaches at the task at hand. Leonard, I always am amazed by the accuracy of your predictions, what do you say about this game. Thanks.Nice to see such healthy discussion! 22. Pigeon Forge is coming off of a suprising 0-10 season. I say suprising because they were picked to be first or second in Region 1 3A last fall. They aquired a new head coach this year that is familiar with the area, he was the longtime O-Coach at GP, and I see him bringing back the more punishing run game. Good luck to both teams, but I am going to give the nod to PF because of the excitment ofthe new coach.
  23. I'm bringing my topic back. Come on Region 1 fans, let's here some chatter. Gibbs plays Grace and Carter plays Central tonight in the Jamboree. Post any observations you saw during the mini-scrimmage tonight.
  24. Does anyone know of any webcasts of games in East Tennessee. I am going to be working Friday nights this fall and I want to listen to any games that I can. I get no radio reception where I am, so the only way to hear games in on the internet. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of any webcasts I would be greatly thankful. Thanks.
