  1. What's the scoop on Sunbright this year? How much did they lose from last year?
  2. Don't see how you can say no clear favorite to win and 3 or 4 teams have a shot. David Brainerd wins the district, losing only 1 game. Actually beat Temple 11-1 tonight. No clear favorte? 3 or 4 teams? Guess it is just hard to give credit where credit is due. And I'm not even a baseball fan!
  3. That's really sad news. I've watched him grow up with a lot of the kids from DB from the time he was at Senter playing basketball. That is tough news.
  4. Don't be so sure school boy. Your ignorance continues to show itself.
  5. Wildcat man, I think you hit the nail on the head.... you and I (and a few others) really know the truth about a tough journey. People just don't know what it's like to play with 12, 17, 20 players. Especially with a program 3 years old. Absolutely no idea, especially when a good % of that total are players that are only out there to look good in a uniform. I was in North Carolina this weekend and talked to a basketball coach at a small, private school. He could not believe that DB could even field a team with 30 players (I fudged the total to him a little). He was appalled. Your dedication and efforts will never be forgotten. DB may never win a state championship or region. However, they will surprise some people from time to time. Just like when they beat South Pittsburgh in basketball this year.....
  6. If you say so.... I'm not really privy to know when the yards were gained. Just looked at the stats in the paper. I would say SP covered pretty much everybody well last year, whether it be running or passing. And I would say that SP pretty much played 2nd team JV defense for most every team they played last year also except for the playoffs. The question would be, who got the most yards passing against SP last year? Bet DB was in the top 2.
  7. Not sure what you mean that the JV could cover the WR's. Maybe the line was pressuring the QB, but from what I saw in the paper, DB had 140 yards passing, and the big receiver had 90 of those yards. I wouldn't consider a receiver who gets 90 yards classified as someone that was covered real well, as well as allowing 140 yards total passing. As far as the posts about respect, I bet if you went back 2-3 years, you would not see anything mentioned on these threads about DB (good or bad).. guess you could say that even talking about the program is gaining respect?
  8. Zone, I tend to agree with you observations. However, you must have a decent running game and blocking to go away from the spread. With the spread, the #1 receiver at DBCS gets double teamed most every game, so it becomes less effective, especially in terms of gaining 1st down and yards. Look at the mindset of the new offensive coordinator at UT. His whole concept deals with putting the ball in the playmakers hands, not spreading it around to non-threats. IMHO! Just look at Weatherspoon last year. He had plenty of balls thrown his way and was a threat every play. Of course, SP had an awesome running game too! On another note, can not understand why so many tend to think Silverdale will be good next year. They lost the majority of their weapons (QB, running back, defensive backs).

    Temple

You TempleTrues and GreehAcres, it humors me to see so many posts concerning young team, inexperienced, next year...... not for sure, but I would imagine the majority of temple's team plays AAU ball all summer together. Its' their thing..... You guys should not count your chickens until they hatch, or you could be eating a lot of crow next year!

    Temple

This coming from the say guy that said they would not get out of the region, but I don't think they can repeat. However, I must say they are the most over achieving team I have seen in a long time (as much as I hate to say it). Excellent coaching, emphasis on defense, good passing, and most important, an unselfish team. Most coaches can't see that, and never engrain that philosophy into their players. Even though Sexton scores a lot, he is a very unselfish team player. They are not extremely deep (which may hurt them in a close game), but their style of play is the same Temple style I've seen for years, which could prove me wrong again....
  11. Is any tournament around here ever held anywhere but Temple? How do they continue to always get the home court advantage? If I were an opposing coach, it would tick me off.
  12. Let's don't be cutting down David Brainerd. If you remember, Temple only beat David Brainerd by 14 a few weeks ago also. The guys at DB are all back next year, and will make some noise. Temple is an over-achieving team with a serious lack of depth. I don't expect them to get out of the region.
  13. Believe you should have replaced Lookout Valley with Whitwell.. Tid bit of info.... David Brainerd beat every team in 6A except CSAS, and lost none. DB is 5th in 5-A, and will probably struggle with Silverdale. Top 8 teams in Region: 1) CSAS 2) Grace 3) Temple 4) 21st Century 5) Silverdale 6) David Brainerd 7) South Pittsburg 8) Whitwell What's sad is that the 6th best team in the Region will probably be left out due to the stength of 5A.
  14. Well, let's really speak the truth ya'll.... I believe that like a hole in the head.... Bet they weren't laughing too much when DB got within 6 in the 3rd quarter..... Seems like I saw a few subs, but the main guys were in until about 2 minutes to go in the game.... Also saw the Temple generated stats after the game, and the starters played the vast, vast majority of the game..... so, do you expect anyone to believe that a Temple player (or any competitive athlete) will "back off" during a competitive event? 40 or 50? Speak the truth? Wow...
  15. Understand... nobody gives DB much respect at anything so far, but things will change eventually. Even though a 14 point loss to Temple is nothing to brag about, with more free throws made and several missed layups, the game would have been much closer, and DB could have pulled the upset, believe it or not. SP playing a zone is just admitting they are lazy (sorry, just my opinion). What I have to wonder is how they only lost to Silverdale by 2 points, and Silverdale owned DB twice this season with big wins.
  16. Whoa there! DB is not all that bad of a team... they have won 12 so far, and will probably win 16 games this season. Not too shabby, especially since this is the first year in the district. I was impressed with the coaches at SP. They seemed to handle the "sucker punch" after the game was over with class. However, I do not understand why they play a zone? With that much speed and athletism, seems they should play more get in your face defense. However, the bench was not extremely deep either. Seemed to me the players were living off the laurals of a state championship football season. DB players said they did not seem like they were trying very hard.
  17. I'm not sure a gym makes a difference. It starts with the players. Just in case you missed it, David Brainerd just put a whipping on the SP Pirates tonight. Guess it's tough to be good in basketball too when SP places so much emphasis on football. The district SP is in must be very, very weak. DB has beat every team over there except for CSAS. DB is in 5th place in their district, and struggles with the top teams. Next year, DB will be a region contender.
  18. Looks like observation was pretty close.. I've been involved for too long and watched too many basketball games to be wrong about this one...
  19. Looks like my observation was close.... about what I expected...
  20. It doesn't take a lot of time to figure out how athletic a person is, or how much desire and passion they have. Jamboree game was also very short time frame... I have no dog in this hunt at all. High School athletes are fickle at that age, and it may all boil down to who comes ready to play. My observation was strickly based upon CSAS's intensity vs Grace's. CSAS had more than any team I have seen in a while...
  21. I do believe DB is the only team to play both so far (CSAS in Jamboree and Grace regular season). My observation? CSAS is overall more athletic, quicker and just better. CSAS guards and forwards are better. The game revolves around the tall, tall kid from Grace (I don't like to mention names). If he comes to play, Grace could win, or at least make a great game out of it. If he is a no factor, then CSAS will win big tme. CSAS plays with an intensity that Grace does not have. Prediction? - CSAS - 74 Grace - 56
  22. Let me get this straight. If you are the Coach, and I understand your first post, you predicted your team to lose?
  23. I was wondering if DB was the only school where lack of motivation became a factor. I think that goes with the territory with small Single A teams. Not every kid on the team is focus and motivated for 11 straight weeks. At larger schools, with 50+ kids on a team, it is not as apparent. DB was 4-5 going in to the last Temple game. They had a bowl game lined up in Cookville the next weekend against Clay Co. if they won. Win and go, or lose and hang out with girls. Hard to believe that the kids did not step up against Temple and play they way they should have. Even though main offensive threat (receiver) was out, whether he would have made a difference on offense or defense will never be known. Take Josh out a game and see what that means to the Grace offense. Grace/Silverdale/DB are all so close in distance from each other, always wondered what it would be like if all 3 schools were combined with the best athletes.
  24. I'm talking about the Temple fans I have known for 6 years, and you are obviously not one of them... You obviously represent the school very well on this forum with your comments...
  25. So what's so bad about playing at David Brainerd? Have you been there? Have you seen the facility? It happens to be one of the nicest and best gym in the area...
