  1. [ As I said before.... consolidation will never happen in my life-time because of closed minds resulting from football rivalries. The only ones hurting are our students. Please don't underestimate the majority of Parents in Marion co.Most of the parents I know put their kids well being ahead of football!
  2. DR. Arthur Kellerman- on the board of directors at Emory and a possible candidate for the Surgeon General during Clinton's term. John Carrol Griffith- graduated #1 in Nuclear Physics at Annapolis now a retired Admiral from the Navy. Jim Beene- Rhode Scholar... and the list goes on and on of Dr's, Lawyers, Teachers, Engineers, businessmen and numerous others who graduated from South Pittsburg High School. If a kid wants it bad enough he can get it regardless where they go to School. I dare say these successful students parents were worried about a football game.
  3. 1969 Jasper vs. Sp standing room only. Jasper had us down by a couple of scores. We battled back to make the score 21 to 19 in favor of Jasper. Eddie Brown (NFL ALL PRO) breaks lose and Jimmy runs him down on Jasper's 6 yd. Line. Next play IF memory serves me right Red Garner intercepts ball and runs it out to the 4 yd line. Next play Jimmy takes it 96 yds to the house. I do believe that in 69 the SVC was the strongest of any conference in the state in any class. Jasper or Whitwell could have won the state that year. A lot of people don't remember this but we scrimmaged Brainard that year and they had been state champs in 68. before their was any classes. We dominated them in august of 69 in a scrimmage and they had most of their team back from 68. Of course I'm bais!
  4. Have to disagree about the statement concerning the coaches. There is a lot more to winning championships than talent. It always starts with the coach. It takes many things to earn a championship, talent is just one ingredient. I played for Coach Beene and Coach Don and we wouldn't have won squat if it wouldn't for these great men. Concerning Trousdale, They have as much tradition as SP and I would think the Trousdale people know what they are doing concerning their football team.
  5. If I were in the recruiting business I would take him either way. Man he has great instincts. After watching him last year and watching the highlight Zone put together in my opinion he can play D1 as a rb. He has incredible vision which no one can coach. One thing that impressed me from his lb play is the angles he takes. He is a very smart player. Also, I have heard his character matches his athletic ability. Would like to wish David all the luck and hope he enjoys the recruiting process.
  6. Hey Zone, the last time I played golf was probably back in HS and you know how long thats been. I did however play on SP first golf team. We played a team from Chattanooga and I personally scored over 90 pts.
  7. I have heard so many great things about your son. Not only does he excel in sports but academics as well. I played on the 69 State Championship team, my teammates share a special bond we will carry to the grave. It's an honor to be part of the pirate family. By the way the run your son made against Grace was one of the most spectacular I have ever witnessed at any level. God bless and Merry Christmas.
  8. I'm prouder than a game rooster to be a Pirate!
  9. Roshaun Weaterspoon and Robert Robinson should be playing. I know after Friday some College coaches became very interested in them. Who does the picking?
  10. I wish the BC Team the best of luck. I no people don't care much for yester-years but I sure had the respect back in the day when the Lockes,Terry's, and Boynton's played. Will never forget the zero-zero tie between SP and BC, what a game! I played a little later than that and was wondering about a running back you had with the same last name as mine. His first Name was Gary. A very good player.
  11. [9.) South Pittsburg: 1A best team by far cruised to a state title. Would love to see them have played some 2A teams They did play some 2a teams. Ask Boyd, Marion, Tyner whom all have won State championships in the past.
  12. ME TOO ! One thing that no one can forget is the word "TEAM"
  13. Would love to have a dollar for every time we ran that play. Blocking back and fullback kicking the end out, guards pulling hitting the six hole, and the 4 back ( TAILBACK ) taking it to the house. I miss it!
  14. Comparing scores means squat! If you think it does consider this! Redbank beat Boyd by 20, Sp beat Boyd by 40. Maryville beat Redbank by 30 ( WITHOUT DI PLAYER OUT FOR REDBANK) . Maryville beat Alco by 30. Fulton beat Tyner by by 3, Sp beat Tyner by 4. So on and So on! Comparing scores means squat. Do I think Sp can beat Maryville? NO! Do I think they can beat Alco? Don't know! Do I think they can beat SC? YES!
  15. I know they missed one in Robert Robinson
  16. Congrats to the 2007 State Champs! This ole Pirate is very proud of you. What a tribute to Coach Don! Thank you Vic, the Team, and all the Pirate family for making our community proud. Also congrats to the Mckensie folks for a fine season, hold your heads high, you have had a great season.
  17. Watching the SP game last night there was probably only a few in the stands who saw it. On one of the last extra points Vic ran the ole side saddle single wing bread and butter play, the ole 46 to honor his Dad. Congrats Vic and to the team. Don is smiling.
  18. I'll be there! I will be the one gawking. The last time I was in the Boro thay had a good place down by Stones River but thats been several moons ago.
  19. [ South Pitt Is Closing The Town. Mr. Drucker Is Closing The Store. And Mr. Haney Is Providing The Transportation. Let's Fill The Stands. Even If You Don't Like Us Come Stand On Our Side. http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10 we even hired someone to keep Arnold!
  20. Hey ZP, trying to round up some of my ole 69 teamates for some before and after the game get-together at a place where adult beverages are sold. Don't know much about The Boro but surely there is such a place. Would love to wear my old lettermans sweater but the moths have eaten it, but it might have been just a wee too small anyway. Tell you boy and everyone else I'm prouder than a game rooster of them win or lose.
  21. I would like to be the first to congratulate you on your Morale victory. Congratulations on a great passing attack, also congratulations on your vaunted defensive line to holding us to under 500 yds rushing. I try to refrain from posting anything negative about a high school football game. No way is my sarcasm directed at the Hampton Football team they deserve nothing but my respect on a great season and they did play a good game. This is all I have to say about the Hampton game, It's over and in the books.
  22. I love to see good football. Congrats to the Mckensie players and coaches its quite an accomplishment. I have played for and followed SP for many years and this team just might be the best yet. Time will tell.
