  1. This seems to be a fairly average attempt at diverting from the point. The by laws were changed when the executives and the board voted on this without the knowledge of the voting members. It was discussed at the last meeting, enacted without a proper vote, and announced at the meeting last night. Also, please don't confuse the hard work of kids and coaches as "accolades" for a governing body. I only know one guy who said he was in this for the accolades. hmmmmmm? Perhaps it is the same guy who wrote this post with detailed knowledge of statistics that only someone would compile to present at a meeting. So, did you just thank yourself?
  2. Update: TWF extended term limits of officers and board members (this appears to have been done by the board and the executives without a vote from members and was done between the last meeting and this one). No change in leadership. Accountability and balance seem to be limited with terms extended and accountability resting the hands of those involved. Officers and board members can be removed early from a vote of no confidence by the board. The problem lies in the fact that the two top executive officers have been appointed as board members. Other than that not much seems to have happened.
  3. Boykin is a great wrestler and a great kid. I'm just saying that the competition level at that weight isn't very good. I am well aware Boykin has been to the OTC. Guys like Tommy Rowlands talk about the level of competition at heavy at the NCAA and World level being different. There is no need to be sarcastic regardless of your doubts.
  4. their opponents were not that good. I saw an average kid's club head lock work. You don't see that working in the middle weights. Outstanding wrestler should be just that not beating below average kids in a dominating fassion
  5. I don't think that 4 state tournaments and 4 titles is a lifetime achievement, but it is a pretty cool state tournament achievement. It doesn't happen very often for a reason. Has there ever been a 4xer who didn't get it?
  6. If Fuller wins his 4th, he should be a strong choice for OW. 4xers are pretty hard to come by.
  7. The coach could have forfeited the match even if his kid couldn't continue. Tell the official to blow the whistle then blow it again because we are forfeiting. It could have been handled honorably. If the slam had been malicious with the intent to hurt the kid then by all means, take the forfeit. This, however, was not the case. For God's sake, Have some respect for the sport and doing the right thing instead of the easy thing.
  8. This dive taken against Russo was as cowardly thing as has happened in recent memory. Wrestling is supposed to be about what is earned and not given. I don't blame the kid. he is just that, a kid. I imagine the Smyrna coach wasn't very good if he wrestled at all. Someone who had paid the price that Russo has paid to be the quality wrestler he is would never allow a kid who didn't to lay down and get a victory they didn't earn. I hope he loses sleep for a long time, but I doubt he will because anyone that would do something so pathetic probably is just that. What lesson was taught? I imagine Russo will be ok. He is a stand up kid who at worst learned life is not fair and sometimes gutless cowards win in the short term. The entire Smyrna program should be ashamed of the actions of their coach and understand if they want to be contenders they need to pay the price and not wait on an opportunity to be given what they haven't earned.
  9. Just in case no one was paying attention, congrats to Michael Hooker DSMI 71kg Greco champ and Nick Marable 70 kg FS champ
  10. Coaches want to win the state. I'd rather be second inthe region if it gave my team a better chance to win the state. Kids want to win the state. Good coaches are usually trusted by their team and kids should take the coaches word for it that they are doing what is on their best intrest. In therory there is already a region champion since all of the teams have wrestled and each region decides how their region champion will be determined. The region tourny is not mandated by the state, so I doubt you'll see the T$$AA mandate that teams not forfeit. The state duals is a rare team event in wrestling and the team is what is most important in this case. $.02
  11. Apparently I missed it but he@# froze over a few years ago, and I think they started right after that.
  12. They can't lose money if they are making a profit. They can not make as much money but they have to go into the red to lose money. As far as parking goes, I remember all the talk about the barn being such a good sight bc of the "free parking", and we all know how that turned out. They have even convinced band parents to work the lot!!! Do they get a cut? Why them? They don't have a dog in the race. BAND? really. I agree with a central location, but a barn is a bad place to wrestle. I don't see anything changing because the TSSAA is making more money off of kids. I haven't seen them put any more back in though? Bureaucracy at its finest.
  13. Looks like they may be dropping wrestling for another "amateur" sport...Baseball. Looks like we might get to see more professional athletes winning medals. Haven't we seen enough? TV ratings and cash rule. This is a travesty. It is time to take a step back and keep all pros out. They already make small fortunes playing kid's games.
  14. Always? If I remember correctly, the ref jumped down on the wrong side and started counting near fall. There was no way to see the pin because he put himself in bad position. He should have anticipated what was going on. The move developed very slow and if he knew what a spladle was then he should have been in position. The ref was lazy and out of position. The idea that refs can't be wrong is part of the problem we have with the quality of officials in tn. Maybe use some of that parking money to get some training for these guys. Anyone have any word on the injured knee? I sure hope he gets to wrestle for a state title.
  15. I wonder if I am the only one that hates wading through this idiot's drivel to find out the results of a match. Has he surpassed Soms as village idiot? How do you feel? post a reply.

  17. Thanks for your suggestion. I'm quite happy with my success or lack there of. I guess it depends on how you measure it.
  18. I concede. You guys are right. I'm sure you wrestled and coach at the highest levels. It is too bad the TSSAA didn't get your opinions before making their decisions. I'm going back under the bridge (down by the Russell Fork) to spend my days reading Chairman Mao, drinking 40's, demanding accommodations and destroying the sport. I have been one upped and out named dropped. Please enjoy your house and disregard lack of success of the small schools in the past. If they don't like it, they should have more kids so they'll have more people in their school. As I have obviously never been the best as you stated, I will bow out of the argument. P.S. Enjoy the small school tournament next year
  19. Check the average enrollment for the top 5 for the last ten years. Comparing private schools like ryan and baylor to a small public school is silly. I'm not sure how you read the numbers you posted but it seems that if you have less than 1000 kids your chances are pretty slim. How do different divisions reduce the obstacles to overcome of the lessons to be learned? I guess you'd tell me poverty is the fault of the poor? I mean if we could get rid of all the poor people then we wouldn't have any poverty. East Ridge (ER) 86; So if numbers don't lie then in 10 years "small" schools have cracked the top 5 5 times with about 100 points separing them from 1st. So either the small schools are as you put it are too lazy to get up and get it for themselves, or the size of the school does make a difference.
  20. Grundy VA was funded by a wealthy local man. Once his funding left, the program suffered. If comparing one small school that WAS funded by one benefactor does not quantify small schools all over the country. Funny how things change. Ask Fiser. Grundy moved to A from AA last year and won the tournament. Do you think they would rather have not won in order to say they got beat by Christiansburg (who they finished 2nd behind 6 times since 01)? As far as college coaches and PA, OH, and NY.....You ever considered we are behind the curve because wrestling in considerably younger in the South? We've only been at it since the 60's. Are you suggesting that if TN had one division that we would compete with those states? REALLY? If it were only that simple. By-the-way PA and OH have divisions. I am also curious as to which team you are talking about that had too many kids and coaches to be successful?
  21. The size of your school can (and usually does) have a bearing on how good an individual will be. If size doesn't determine anything, why does the NCAA have divisions? What do you think the goal of high school sports is? These kids aren't going pro. They are just kids participating in an inherently tough sport. They aren't responsible for fulfilling the pipe dreams of a bunch of has-been or never-was old guys. High school wrestling isn't a training ground for the OTC. I'm having trouble seeing the fault in the split other than the "state won't be as tough" argument. The trouble with that is that it's not that tough to start with. The majority of medal winners are form the large, established programs so who does the split hurt? The responsibility, in my opinion, now lies on the backs of the small schools. They now need to raise their game, go find quality coaches, support them, and put in the work. The burden for making this split a positive and encouraging more kids to wrestle is on their shoulders. I hoe they will take advantage of the situation they have been given.
