  1. Truth is, Whitwell will be lucky to be battling for a playoff spot period. Just because you beat up on a team in scottsboro christian, that is worse than anyone in your district, and is about as good as richard hardy(even though they don't have a team). I know that since yall scored 56 points you are riding high, but grundy wins this one 27-12, and the only thing that makes it that close is that grundy is terrible also.
  2. Everyone doesn't have the money to send our kids to a private school. I was talking the county school system.
  3. No Respect!!!! It's that simple. Back in the mid nineties for marion, and now for SP the chattanooga media gives us no respect. I think that I saw that SP was sixth in the area??? That may be a little low, should probably be 3 realistically. North georgia is always way overrated as is quite a few chattanooga teams. We were never ranked very highly in those polls either even when the schedule was stepped up a bit.
  4. AAAAND, I am sure that 10-15 years from now they will be glad they traded that championship for a better education that they will have!!!
  5. Definitely the rain could work in our favor a bit. You know as well as I do that the pirates couldn't get to the corners quite as fast. I am sure that SP has had this problem in the past playoffs, as has jasper waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy back in 93 against kingston when a loaded warrior team upset 7-6.
  6. We know you are a pirate so your stuff doesn't get deleted by the pirate moderator, but I think before last years state championship team, you know those underachieving pirate teams that lost in the second round, about half of the pirate nation was trying to get rid of Vic and his staff. Now that he has won with surperior athletes, hardly anyone remembers that stuff and he is the best coach in america, huh??
  7. That should be a good game in a couple of weeks in jasper.......The warriors have had a tough strength and conditioning program this summer and are much improved. How much, we will see!! I guess it depends on whether the SP game takes a toll or not and how much the warriors get beat up physically in that game. I heard that Boyd players had a bunch of kids with cramps friday night......does this mean that they are out of shape??
  8. as a matter of fact, OP, I think that Marion did defeat Rhea County in a scrimmage...........but it is just that.........a scrimmage. I know for a fact that the ones in jasper weren't ran like a game. Each team got so many plays and then they switched out. I also don't think that the LV quarter proved anything. LV is probably one of the worst teams around this year, just like they used to be!!
  9. K, we have already discussed this already once and have talked about all of this on here, no need to bring it up over and over and over and over and over............I know that SP has some very talented players and I wish them nothing but the best, except during week one!! And I wouldn't take anything that the Free press says to heart, not with Stephen 'pirate' hargis working there!!
  10. I am not writing them off, just telling the truth. Didn't say you were running your mouth, but some are on here saying that marion is going to hammer SP and that is just not going to happen. The Pirates are much like the Warriors of the early nineties with a lot of talent, and with coach hale and baxter, they are a completly different team now. SP will be the best team that marion plays all year including tyner, unless a deep run into the playoffs happens where they would face Alcoa. I am truly a Marion supporter and will support them no matter what happens and I always stay until the final horn, no matter what the sport is. I have already said that this marion team has a chance to be really good this year. Also, when have the fans cost the kids a chance to win a game???
  11. Some people do have rose colored glasses on. I am a Big Marion fan, but I am definitely not getting on here and running my mouth about what the Warriors are going to do to the pirates. I can see the game close, like Geno said for the first half with SP pulling away late. For Marion to have a chance they can't turn the ball over at all and give the pirates extra possesions. With the explosiveness that they have, being able to score in a couple of plays, you just can't turn it over. 94, you are right about the I-formation being a ball control offense, although I think they are running the option out of it also, but that is what marion has to do to stay in the game. They can't try to have a shootout with the pirates. Also, they must turn the pirates over several times to be in the game late.
  12. Personally, I would have liked to see the pirates go out and get a good baseball coach. I can't hardly believe who they hired. But, again, the principal is an assistant football coach so why would he care about the baseball team. I have heard they hired coach stone to keep from paying him the supplement in football, therefore freeing up a spot for a new assistant. If that is the case, then that is sad that the baseball kids are not looked on the same as the football players. The middle school team at SP is loaded like no other team since the 94 team maybe. It would have been good to see them hire someone that could push and develop these kids, as I think that they had a real shot to be state champions in a couple of years. With this hire, I think that the kids will not get developed and other schools will catch up to their team, therefore no state championships. Stoney is a great person, and I hope that everything works out for him and hope he gets some good assistants.
  13. My take on this whole matter is that I think Marion has a chance to be a really good team this year. The off-season work is going to pay off with more speed this year and enthusiasm also. I am like zone though and don't think taunting the pirates is the way to sneak up on them and pull the upset. The pirates have a chance to be a really great team this year. Pirates are loaded with speed, as usual, and I think that Vic knows what he is doing with the line not playing both ways. The line may struggle early, but with the games that really count, the region isn't going to be contested at all, so by the time the playoffs start, the line play will be paying huge dividends. As for the game, I will be the first to say that the pirates should be the favorites, they have the better team and more speed. With that being said, this is marions best chance for an upset in a while. I think to be able to win they will have to have a little luck on their side maybe from some costly turnovers and things such as that. As far as seeing SP going 7-3, I highly doubt that......maybe 9-1 a stretch at 8-2 if marion pulls off the unthinkable, but more than likely 10-0 and another state title in the trophy case, and I hope they bring another one home, but if they lose one I hope it is to the warriors. As far as all the D-1 prospects, bossbro, I know that you are very proud of your son, and you should be. I met you last year at a playoff game and you and your son are class acts and I think he deserves all the hype that he gets. He is a stud running back at the highschool level, and as a two-star prospect he has several big time schools calling. This is a tribute to his working hard through school and his academics also. You mentioned his final five as being TN, Vandy, Auburn, AL and Memphis or ms st, not quite sure bout the last one, but those are all great schools. Guess he could play RB at Vandy, ms st or mem, but more than likely, with a 4.6 would be a saftey at the other three?? Maybe a little small for linebacker at TN, AU, and ALA?? I am thinking he is a little shorter than Eric Westmoreland was. I hope it all works out and he picks the best school for him, and I also hope he has a great senior year.......other than the first game. Terrell Robinson is an excellent athlete, who at this point may be better at basketball, but this year appears to change that. He looked really good in the jamboree, and there is no doubt that he will get some looks. Kartrez and Montrell, with their speed will definitely get some looks to go to college and continue their careers, and Jijuan Finnel has great bloodlines and he has the size, but bodywise, probably needs a lot of work to be a true D-1 talent. Good luck to the warriors this season and to the pirates after the first game.
  14. I believe some folks from Boyd have those rose colored glasses on. Boyd is good, don't get me wrong, but their hopes hinge on a kid that hasn't played the last two years. He was a big time prospect a couple of years ago but injuries have hurt his stock. Last year, when he went down, they didn't even have a capable back up. I think a tight end took over. Hopefully, Hughes wont get hurt this year and he will have the year he deserves!! As for the Defense, they are okay, but not very fast at all, but they will hit you!
  15. You are right OP, definitely about the skillet, I might have been hit as much as you have. No bricks have fallen on my head though, maybe fingers and legs and such though. I played football long ago, and I do play golf, but I am just a once a month hacker, if that much. In another post you said something about people from jasper being dreamers.......I'm not......I am a realist, I know that marion has been in a down cycle for a while and it isn't always the coaches fault!! I know that they really haven't got a shot at beating the Maryville rebels, I mean South Pitt, but that won't stop me from being down at Beene stadium to support them in a couple of weeks.
  16. Was this scrimmage played like a regular game format?? I think the jasper scrimmage the other day the teams got so many plays on offense and then the other team got so many. I might be wrong though.
  17. I seriously doubt that McMinn Central beat Alcoa. Don't think they are fast enough. Don't think they are that powerful, other than last year their record hasn't been that impressive and they got beat in the first round last year as a region champion??
  18. I didn't say that we were great though. As good as yall say you are, you should be playing the big boys, not cupcakes like we do. I already stated that you couldn't help it this year, but you could see how you stack up in scrimmages. I would just like to come see those type of games. As far as our region.........none of our region makes it very far in the playoffs. Yall did struggle with tyner last year, so to say that yall wouldn't struggle is a lie. Alcoa is a different animal all together!! I have already said that SP would beat marion, you didn't have to repeat what I said. Not ragging SP at all, just stating the truth, and I support the pirates in all but one week. I do think that SP is special. Tons of athletes, speed makes coaches great, everyone knows that. I wont look through rose colored glasses, as Old Pirate says though, and think like most pirate fans do and say that they could compete with the likes of Alcoa and Maryville. That is laughable at best. Maybe, just maybe alcoa every so often. My breakdown goes like this: The pirates can beat 1A schools 99 percent of the time. The pirates probably can beat 85% of 2A teams 8 out of 10 times 3A, the pirates can probably beat 65 percent of the teams regularly maybe a little higher. In 4A and 5A the teams that the pirates can beat are drastically fewer, maybe 30%. Saying all of this is no disrespect to the pirates, but if they are that good and are going to win the state from here on out, ramp up that schedule next year like Marion did in the mid nineties and play some bigger schools. That is how you will get the respect statewide, and Lord knows yall have the horses to do it!!!
  19. I am a Marion fan, or Jasper for some of you Pirate supporters and I was wondering with all of the talk surrounding the Mighty Pirates being 'THE BEST EVER' team that they have had, have their been any scrimmages out there scheduled against Maryville or Alcoa?? I distinctly remember last year at the clinic bowl that there were many delusional fans saying that they could compete with those two programs . I know that it cant happen in real games this year, because of all of the cupcake region games in 1A, but maybe next year when realignment happens the pirates can schedule the likes of Alcoa and some bigger schools. Like I said, I am a warrior fan, but I am also a realist that knows for us to compete with yall the stars have to be aligned and us play good and yall play bad, but Boyd will also be a thrashing and Tyner is the only somewhat of a game that yall will have on your schedule. Maybe yall can play up a classification next year so you can be in the playoffs against Alcoa, which also chooses to play up out of the 1A class. Maybe they are avoiding yall, you think?
  20. It wasn't any planning by coach Roberts. Marion's number 1 pitched saturday and wasn't going to throw until wednesday anyway, reguardless of their opponent. The number 1 pitched against gibbs with their number 2 going against USJ. I am looking forward to a matchup against goodpasture's number 3 and Marions 4, or will marion try to come back with number one or two?
  21. Yeah, the warriors came out, it seemed very very tight tonight, having trouble pulling the trigger at the plate. Ben Murphy definitely swung momentum with his double play from the outfield with the bases loaded and Joe Muir got the offense going with a bomb in the bottom of the inning. Way to go warriors, and loosen up and have a good time in the boro!!
  22. do the good folks from upperman not have computers? This thread has been pretty much dead!
  23. Actually, they are probably the second worst district. The one with grace and silverdale is the worst. I think CSAS or Whitwell could have won that district. LV will beat the regular season champ silverdale by about 15 tonight, and csas will probably beat grace also.
  24. What happened to marshall county? Shouldn't they have been the winner of Marion's bracket?? Did they just decide to go home? I know they beat Marion, Meigs, LV but did they lose the other one? Didn't Franklin Co. also lose a couple of games? How bad did marion beat dekalb and eagleville?
