Dude you had to be there to see it. Lipscomb had basically conceded to defeat. Lipscomb was shutdown basically all night on offense. There was a major breakdown in coaching on Mitchell's behalf. The coaches from Mitchell were trying to play it safe and not lose the game with the lead instead of putting Lipscomb away. Mitchell had the ball with about 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter with the lead. It was 4th and 1 and they elected to do a quick kick ( foolish ) Now The freshman runningback was averaging right at 6 yards per carry. It was a coaching nightmare to see them breakdown like that. Mitchell's star linebacker went out for a play and whoa and behold Zach Rodgers catches a slant and take it the distance for 6. I personally like Zach because he is fast as they come. I am looking forward to hearing about him this year.

Yeah Tim Thompson was wrong but I think alot of you are scared. If Thompson is hired at Ridgeway he is going to whip alot of azz in 5A. Also another coach that is going to shine will be Cedric Miller at Southwind. He is going to wrec havoc in 5A as well.

I juat hope the Melrose fanbase realize how good of a coach they have. Those fans can be cruel after a loss like this. Aw darn, here we go again. I respect your opinion but I totally disagree !

As I read these posts about the game I continously hear about the great Defense of melrose, but tell me Red Dawn, in your opinion what did you think of their offense ?

You know what close does count ( he's in the field of teaching and coaching). What you fail to realize is that anyone can yell and holla and try to coach but people, kids and anyone else responds better when they are taught ! During the previous years before Alexander reign, they had a guy by the name of Graig Cooper who happened to be one of the best runningbacks to come through the city of Memphis. Oh by the way they were also under the full helm of Coach Chester Flowers and Kenny Ingram, so it was a much different team than over the last 2 years.

I care because he doesn't know what the heck he is doing. Listen good and I will summarize it up for all of you. Melrose has a very strong defense, ok. They have weapons of all kind on the field, but their play calling on offense is terrible. Their defense is the reason for their success. Melrose has been a powerhouse for so long that some teams do come in and lay down against them because of the mystique. You would really have to be on the inside to know the talent that they have. They have at least 5- 7 gamebreakers on their team. You will be at the game and watch the play calling, then you'll see why I am so hard on this dude. Let me give you an example of the talent that Melrose have, I compare it to a 90's Florida Gators team with Steve Spurrier as the coach. Speed everywhere and all over the field. A mediocre coach would put up 40 points every week with that squad. I am saying that he is not qualified to coach because he don't know what the heck he is doing.

Duh Uh excuse me......... Matthews is in school finishing up his required classes to graduate. At least he is in the field of education. Matthews is qualified due to he's in school about to graduate to become a certified TSSAA teacher/coach, unlike their offensive coordinator ( Roy ) the security guard who is watching aisle 5 on the monitor at Kroger for a potential shoplifter

Ok kool, however let me make a point about this statement that you made (I'm sure if coach Alexander felt the same way you did then he would have a different coordinator) well this is the biggest reason that they are on they way out now !

Well first and foremost you are not me. I can careless about what you will get on a messageboard and do, Opinons are like a_ _ holes, everyone has one and I am entitled to mine. Yeah a security guard that is not TSSAA certified to teach or have a degree in secondary education is not qualified to coach, if so maybe he would be an employee of The Memphis City School System. You dwell on the status of the team making it to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs, well let me tell you that they have made it that far on pure talent alone. As far as the defense goes, kudos to Coach Reginald Matthews on a job well done. It's easy to stand on the outside and look in and say what you think, but until you have been on the inside, it's best to remain quiet on what you don't now about ! I couldn't tell you much about Whitehaven's program unless I talked to Coach Jason Harris or Coach Saulsberry themselves. Other than that I am clueless about the operation over there.

Well Coach Alexander is a true old school coach. He believes seniors should play and not the best players. This is why Melrose has three losses instead of being undefeated. They have a junior varsity team like no other. Speed. Speed, Speed, and more Speed ! I would love to see a overhaul there. They have a security guard ( Roy) calling the offensive plays, he doesn't know football from lacrosse. It's that bad over there. The winning over there has come on talent alone, not coaching.

The current coaching staff took over last year.No he is not insane, he is correct ! Melrose has more than enough talent on the team to win the state championship easily with ( Henry County, Maryville, and Red Bank) in mind. A good coach would score 30 or more every game with all of that talent. They have players on the bench that could go to any other school in the state and start.

Why the debate over this and that ? Everybody knows that these teams that we are discussing are fighting for second place after the soon to be champs again Maryville Rebels.

I suggest you do your history check on Orange Mound. There are sounds much louder than cannon fire heard throughout Orange Mound on a nightly basis. So it will not be intimidating at all !

What happened at The East game Friday night? I couldn't make it and was unable to get any updates.

This will probably make it as game of the week according to a inside source at FOX. Fairley has high powered backs with Gregory, Hines, and Murrell. Melrose defense is strong up front with recently signed MLB Miami Hurricane ( Antonio Yo-Yo Harper ) leading the charge. It should be a great game. I will be in attendance to witness this one. If Melrose wins ,then it creates problems within Region 8 4a. Kingsbury beat Melrose, Fairley beat Kingsbury, so if Melrose beat Fairley it should be exciting to see how this one plays out.

Man I am glad to hear that you are alright. My prayers are with you and instead of telling you how sorry I am of your mother passing I will rejoice that she has went on to enjoy everlasting life. I am sure she will be missed by her family, but something tells me where she is right now that she wouldn't want to come back here for anything. Well after speaking with a credible source the twins are looking forward to coming to Mitchell and teaming up with old teammates. I wish that the transfer could have happened this year.

Hey there Galilee, great win for Mitchell. It will be even better next year with the twins and other notables coming. Let me just say this, Mitchell will have an abundance of skill players next year. With Redmond under center, Mitchell will be a state contender ! Just remember you heard it here first.

Yeah how true, but trust me the twins will end up at Mitchell, Whitehaven or Southwind in that order.

CBHS is dangerous now. Watson is seasoned now. However Mitchell's # 5 MLB Andrew Franklin will be on the prowl. Mitchell is hurting right now in the backfield, those problems will be resolved when the twins make it over there next year. However I see CBHS pulling this one out only if they contain #5.
