  1. what are some strengths of the mustangs? They seem like a strong team, but havent seen them play. What do they do well?
  2. Good post. I agree. Siegal is a really good team with good players and well coached. They have forwards who can score on anyone. I have said that all year. We will have to bring our best game and that may not be enough. Siegal absolutely can win this game and go on to win state. I also believe if we play hard and stay composed that we can win the game and win state as well. It should be a really good game between two good teams.
  3. Our JV team and players are great and I am very proud of them. They have been incredible all year.
  4. "classles post" its easy to take shots at someone when you hide behind initials....who are you? if your a kid...your post is expected...if your an adult...you took a cheap shot and hiding behind initials...cmon be a man...put your name out there and then say what you mean....its a lot harder...
  5. The officials do the best job they can. i believe that. The call in the hendersoville game was seen different by everyone. I didnt see a elbow and even believed the smaller girl jumped into the hendersonville player and ended up with the worst of it. However, the official truly believed he saw the elbow so he called it that way. He was in fact 2 yards from the players. even though i saw something different, that center official is a good official and has called some great games in HS. Officials can only call what they see and try to be consistent. I think the overwhelming majority of officials try thier best to do so. They are underpaid and asked to do a job that is very subjective in nature. I dont believe any of us can do a better job. Unless there was a way to pay officials more, the quality is going to be suspect much of the time. However, there are some really good officials out there, and I dont have a problem with officiating. Heres why. If my team does what it is supposed to do and put the ball in the back of the net 3 or 4 times, then one bad call or one unlucky play doesnt hurt us. If we dont win a game, its my fault as a coach for not having the team prepared or the players didit execute. A red card can be a different story, but overall, teams win or lose due to there own lack of ability or coaching and not due to bad officiating. A good team finds a way to overcome all obstacles. even bad officiating. once a team takes that attitude, bad officiating is never an issue becuase that team is already mentally prepared to overcome it as an expected obstacle on the way to victory. either way, missed calls or bad calls happen at all levels and will always be a part of it. With all the negative talk, I think we should find times to praise our officials for taking the time to officiate. We have so many good people basically volunteering there time because they want to help. not hurt. To all officials, i say thank you for your efforts. Like all of us, i know you try and do your best. We all make mistakes. ps. im not an official
  6. to many posts are filled with anger and mean spirited...there meant to be fun guys...my posts are all in good fun...but people want to find fault no matter what you say...so thats alright...the two goals centennial scored on franklin were in fact meaningless and irrelevant...thats not being mean...it is what it is.....the score was 4-0 at the time with 5 minutes to play and most of our JV team was in....the two goals did make us put the starters back in...other than that...they were irrelevant....that not being mean...it is what it is....two by the way goals against our JV late in a game that was already over...4-0 with 5 minutes to play (im sorry, but its over).....i would say that the first goal centennial scored was a nice goal under any circumstance...the player hammered it from 18 yards....great goal...but irrelevant to the outcome of the game....
  7. Greenville has a good soccer team. I havent seen Bearden? They seem really good too? What are there strengths and weaknesses? Looking for an objective post from anyone that wants to post.
  8. Ha ha he he ha ha..im looking close and all I see is 18-1-3 in the toughest district in the state and the toughest schedule in the state. Gave up 5 goals all year and 2 by the way meaningless goals after being up4-0 on Centennial. Regular season District champs, District tournament champs, Region Champs, and scoring 32 goals vs. 2 in the process of state tournament so far. Along the way regular season, beating Siegal, St. Agnes, Notre Dame, Brentwood, Centennial, FRA. etc.etc.... But your right, Brentwood (ranked #2 at the time) at least scored a goal in defeat. But if you look really really close, youll see a bus leaving Franklin High School Teusday night on its way to state tournament again. But oh no, we might have to play some more ranked teams. So scary.
  9. MJUHB is family as far as im concerned on coacht.com when it comes to girls soccer and i dont even know him. He is a great supporter of the girls games and tries to be fair when analyzing teams or games. He is never mean spirited or ugly when he makes an opinion. He also supports his programs and does things for people. I have found that most people who criticize are always the people who never actually contribute anything or do anything for anyone unless they get something in return. MJUHB isnt that way and people need to stop being mean spirited to posts he makes in good faith. Cmon, its an opinion board for goodness sake. If you dont agree, say you dont agree and give reasons, but dont get personal. MJUHB, keep up the good work. and what was that ranting post about Siegal not having Lanworthy. Langworthy doesnt go to Siegal. She goes to BA. That poster didnt demonstrate a lot of knowledge of HS girls soccer to be critisizing anyone.
  10. have no dog in this fight. From an objective viewpoint; That kid did not deserve a red card. She didnt do anything malicious, reckless, or even I dont believe intentional. Im not sure she even fouled the other player. To me, it looked like both players went straight up for a bouncing ball to head it, and the smaller player from Beech fell to the ground from the contact. I even think the smaller player jumped into the Hendersonville player. But since she got the worst of it, a foul was called on #7 from Hendersonville. In my opinion, a no call would have been fine. But a card, much less a Red card was just mind blowing to see come out of the official's hands. I was like "you gotta be kiddin". She doesnt deserve that. Now she has to sit out two games. Ridiculous. Undeserved. Hendersonville played with a lot of heart after that and found a way to win. I also believe that Beech showed a lot of hustle and effort and proved to be a team to contend with. Other than that call, I dont know that the officiating was bad. Physical games are tough to call and the center official I think did a good job overall. But that call was a way to hasty and red card wasnt deserved.

  12. Hendersonville has a great coach and a proud program. They are always in the picture.
  13. Good Post. I like posts that provide some real analysis and give real information of a game and not just the typcical you stink we had injuries or we would have won comments. good job on this one.
  14. Siegal and Riverdale both have a ton to proud of for the season. Sounds like a game that makes high school soccer fun. Both teams are difficult to game plan for because they can both score a lot of goals in a hurry. Becka Smith has proven at high school and in very high level club games that she can score on anyone at anytime. Marking her with a great player isnt going to be enough. At some point she will get some looks and she will bury them no matter who is marking her. Her trigger is quick, accurate, and powerful. To keep Becka from scoring you have to keep the ball away from her and out of your defensive half. That means pressure from the front runners and midfield. If that breaks down and the ball is within 35 yards of your goal, Becka is a problem. To say the mark changed and therefore Becka brokefree understates the real issue of why Becka really scored a hat trick. The pressure and game planning from the front 6 or 7 broke down and the ball ended up in dangerous positions in there defensive half and Becka took advantage. In other words, if Siegal could dominate Riverdale (as most predicted), the ball would not even get in Siegals defensive half of the field with any regularity for Becka to have any real chances at all. If the front 6 do their job, then anyone can mark a great forward because she never gets the ball in her attacking half or near the goal. Thus, Becka scored her goals becuase Siegal as a team didnt defend very well, not just she scored because one player stopped marking her. This isnt to negative analysis toward Siegal, its Becka should be given her due. She scored 3 goals on a really good team and should be given a ton of credit for it. At the same time Seigal has forwards that are dangerous. Wynn and Sloan can score on anyone at anytime as well. Even if Wynn isnt playing forward, Sloan is still very tough. If Siegal couldnt score, then Riverdale must have done a pretty good job defending as a group, because Sloan can score against anyone. If Wynn isnt up top with her, it doesnt matter, she is still dangerous. Bottom line is that it doesnt matter who was injured or what circumstances forced certain personnel decisions and position changes. This game was Riverdales night. They are criticized for not playing a tougher schedule, but Siegal is a very good team with or without the injuries and with or without the personnel changes, they still are very good. Riverdale deserves the credit for getting it done this time around. Next time, Siegal very well could be on there "A" game and win 4-2. Both of these high schools represent Murefreesboro soccer really well. They are very good and as dangerous as anyone in the state to game plan for. I give Siegal a lot of credit for a being a strong team playing a strong schedule. I just think its time to give Riverdale some real credit and applaud there kids for a nice season. They have earned it.
  15. Do we really need slide tackling? Cant the defenders and anyone challenging for a ball just stay on your feet. Sometimes a goal is saved by someone running along a forward and at the last second slide down and toe poke the ball away, but is it really needed in order to play the beautiful game. Soccer should be about skill with the ball and tough aggressive 1v1 defending. You can defend hard and tough without having to slide. If it was outlawed tommorrow in all of soccer. The diving, the acting, the rolling on the ground like your leg is broke (but up playing 1 minute later at full speed), the injuries even at the pro level would be less. I really believe that. A tough slide tackle is great if its your team, but when your player gets tacked, you hate it. We all cry foul even if its a good slide tackle against our player. If our player does it, we claim all ball. Its silly. Just stay on your feet and play soccer. Injuries would go down. Theyd have to. Slide tacking from behind would not even be an option if you knew it was 100% against the rules (which it is now pedning referre interpretation of "from behind" or not), but if slide tackling "leaving your feet period" was illegal, no one would do it from behind for sure. Now you do it and hope you get away with it. Its up to the referree. But if the rule says you cant leave your feet, then there is no argument about "all ball" or "from behind". Its did you leave your feet, yes or no. If yes, then you have fouled and carded with a yellow at minumum and red most likely (leave the punishment debate for anther time.) Id do away with it tommorrow in girls and boys soccer. The game is great and about the skill and tactical decisions of players and teams. Slide tackling is a license to mug and whack players and act like you didnt mean to. In boys soccer, its much more intent to whack and get somebody back than in girls, but lets get rid of it and enjoy the game and injuries down.
  16. Lara is an incredible athlete and soccer player. I wish her the best and quickest recovery and good luck at UT.
  17. BGA 1 Franklin 0 It was a really really good game. BGA is a very well coached team and they played well. THey scored a nice goal off a set piece in the early going of the first half. Myself and coach B were pleased with the effort and good attitude of our players (franklin) during the game. They played hard and thats all you can ask. I wouldve liked to have won certainly, but this is the type of game win or lose that both teams can take away positive things and build on. It was worth the price of admission for sure.
  18. im not all over anyone. The post was to compliment Seigal on a nice run as of late and make a joke to one of my club players, who will be playing center mid for me as well. Although I might switch her and Wynn. Not sure yet. Any thoughts?
  19. i kinda agree here....ive always said that if you can score more goals than the opponent..you will win the game...if you dont, then you will lose....thats all there is to it...everyone has there injuries, and bad calls....just score more goals and you dont have to worry about it.....Also looks like Segal is on a roll..there a good team.....kym conrad must be playing forward or something as of late....conrad go back to defense...you know you love it there...
  20. This is a great district filled with really good teams and really good players. I think we are fortunate to have such good teams in the same district. It makes the regular season a lot of fun knowing you get the privelige to play these types of teams day in and day out. Its true that some of us wont make it out of districts. Very well could be us (franklin). However, that deosnt take away from the fun of the regular season. I like HS soccer because of the journey and process of building and getting better during the regular season. Its those experiences(win or lose) during the regular season that can be very meaningful in a lot of different positive ways. I think sometimes we put to much hype on the tournament and stop enjoying the process along the way (which i would argue is the most important thing). If after the regular season your in a position to go further, by all acounts that is the goal. I just wouldnt pin the success or failure of my entire season or discount a great regular season, due to one game (possibly one bad call) and your out. HS truly is more than just W's, (to me anyways). Its about the great match ups and the fun the players have representing there schools, communities, and playing against there travel buddies on rival teams and a host of other reasons that i wont bore everyone with. Post season is great, but the fun of the regular season and the lessons learned shouldnt be discounted due to one district semi-final loss against a great team. In our district that happens every year and this year will be no different im sure. For the season and tourny, I just hope that everyone for all the teams stay healthy and we can give the other teams a really competitive game win or lose and demonstrate sportsmanship and class throughout. But yes, this district is tough to play in. But fun because of it.
  21. no kiddin....those scores are to much...weve all said it a thousand times...theres a zillion things you can do to work on things your team needs to work on and still keep the score down and keep from just embarissing other schools and kids...want rehash them here..but 13 and 17 (if true) is the wrong approach....
  22. Its a good topic to discuss. Lots of good opinions. What I try to do is in high school, if playing a team that is rebuilding or new or for whatever reason the lesser team at the moment, the starters get one half of trying to accomplish the goals we have set for the team in all areas. Working on set pieces, working on building from the back, circulating the ball, etc...if we happen to score 5 goals then certainly the bench is starting to get cleared. The restrictions I would have in place to keep the score from getting out of hand is two things. First, starters arent in the game the second half. They have had there half to get some good work in and good touches. No reason to get them hurt in a lop sided game. Second, the bench players, jv swing players, and/or young players have the right to score but with some restrictions. Two things will do it and keep the score down in girls soccer. They must score of a header or score left footed. Both of these restrictions unfortunately for the girls game will almost gaurantee very few goals will be scored, especially with your JV, bench, or young players. However, if they can score off a header or a nice left footed shot, then im ok with it up to 10. After that, players have to stay out of the box period. They can then shoot from outside the box left footed. IF they can score that way (which is very unlikely even for most varsity players), then sorry. At some point the other team is going to have to do something other than just watch. I think its highly disrectful to start passing the ball around and not ever try to advance it to the goal. I would rather a team try there hardest to score (with reasonable restrictions), then just pass the ball around like were so handicapped. If I dont have the best team then i want our players to have to work through it and learn to hustle the whole game. There is value in getting beat bad if you use it as a tool to learn certain lessons on giving up etc.. Long story short. Making girls use the left foot or scoring on headers only and then after 10 cant go in the box period but can still shoot with left foot outside the box, keeps the scoring down and still show competitive respect for the opponent. Also, with the right 3 or 4 players up front..having to shoot left footed outside the box, will certainly gaurantee no more goals will be scored. Im sure everyone knows what im talking about there( god love the kids that try hard but just dont have it).
  23. Notre Dame and FRA could go on 3-0 stretch run as well. They are both well coached and have good players. On the right momentum most well coached teams, once at state, can make that run.
  24. i agree with the above. In thinking about it, the rule was changed two years ago from drop ball descretion to team in 'clear possession" starting play with the restart. I was at the officials meeting and they went over it. It seemed a little confusing then at the meeting and im sure it confuses everyone now. There was something weird even about where the ball is restarted from. It didnt seem to logical but there is definitely a High School rule that gives a re-start in this instance to the team with the ball. I wish i could remember more or was more clear. Maybe I should look it up since i coach, but i dont know most of the rules except handball and out of bounds.
