I think that most coaches will work with any player who has a problem making workouts. However, the coach doesn't really have to make workouts "mandatory." By this I mean that if 2 athletes are competing for a position and 1 works out consistently and the other doesn't, then most of the time the player that has made himself bigger, stronger and faster through off-season workouts will win the position in the fall.

Speed is the ultimate equalizer, and Scooter can fly. I don't think being 5'7" will prevent him from doing anything. Quentin Griffin, the excellent ex-Oklahoma running back is listed as 5'7" 190 (I doubt he is really 5'7"). Scooter will have no problem putting on weight in college. Sometimes it is even an advantage to have a short running back, you can't see those guys until they are gone!

MorrWestFan, Please don't be one of those fans that tries to justify why his team lost a scrimmage or game. I was at the scrimmage and these are the facts as I see them: 1. Anderson County did whip Mo. West. True they only scored 1 TD against West first team D, but West's offense did nothing. 2. Don't come on here and make a ridiculous statement like #4 from A.C. needs to work on his speed. On his interception return no player from MW was fast enough to catch him. Also, he had enough speed to be all over the field the rest of the night, making an impact or tackle on about every play. 3. Just because Mo. West has been good in the past, doesn't mean they will be good in '03. They have a lot of work to do, and they had better get to it with the schedule they have next year. No hard feelings, just don't run down another team after they beat you. It doesn't look good.

So you don't want to hire the most qualified coach for the job. Just the best person from Blount County. Maybe you should go to work for the University of Alabama's athletic department.

If I am not mistaken, most of the States in the Southeast are now using a "central location" format. For example, Alabama is now playing their championship games at Legion Field and South Carolina alternates between Clemson and USC's stadiums. This seems to work out best for everyone involved and it is a bigt thrill for the kids to be able to play in a college stadium.

Volunteer is a rapidly improving program. Coach V and his staff do a great job and their kids play extremly hard. I don't think anyone from Morristown West needs to be on here talking any smack. From what I hear they weren't world beaters either before Coach Woods arrived.

I don't know the names of their prospective offensive lineman, but I know they will have a always have a good o-line as long as they keep their current offensive line coach.

JPATS5, Due to the fact that I am a huge Morristown West, fan I hope you are right about them winning a State Championship next year. However, I have watched High School football in 5 different states throughout my lifetime and Maryville is one of the best programs I have ever seen. They have a ton of talent returning next year and a great coaching staff. That doesn't mean they are going to win it all. My only point is that the Champion in any sport holds that title until someone takes it from them. That hasn't happened in 3 years, and that deserves respect. Once again, I respect your opinion and I hope you are right. Just trying to clarify my point.

I have stated this many times on this board and I will continue to state it as long as threads like these are ongoing. Maryville is the favorite in 4A until someone beats them in the play-offs. Anyone who thinks they are going to drop off is either: not being realistic, or is trying to make themselves feel better.

If Meadows is the best coach in TN, then I am sure he could find a better job than William Blount.

An easy solution would be one that has been mentioned on this site before. Combine the 2 schools.

I played with 2 guys that are over in Iraq right now. Like everyone else I feel a mixture of emotions; mainly pride in their courage and committment which is also accompianed by fear for their safety. One thing I don't doubt is who will be victorious. I know the makeup of these guys and also know there are many others like them over there. Saddam doesn't stand a chance!

The school system shares some of the blame in these situations as well. There is no way that a system should let a coach hold them hostage for 2-3 weeks deciding if he wants to take the job. The coach should be offered the job and be given 2-3 days maximum to decide. If they can't decide in that amount of time then it should be a pretty good indication that they aren't the right fit.
